Did Singer Leona Lewis Get a Breast Augmentation?

Posted on August 3rd, 2009 in Black Plastic Surgery, Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Ethnic Plastic Surgery by Erica Hurtz

British singer Leona Lewis made it big in the US with her pop single “Bleeding Love.” But many have also wondered if plastic surgery has helped enhance her career. Make Me Heal investigates the evidence with the help of our plastic surgery experts.

Leona Lewis, Plastic Surgery

24-year old Leona Lewis first came to the attention of the public when she won on the third season of the British talent show The X Factor. Since then, Leona’s popularity has crossed the pond and made her a hit in the US as well.

Crossing the pond has also brought Leona’s cleavage into better view, leading many bloggers to speculate that the pop singer has had a breast augmentation since rising to fame.

While her breasts are noticeably larger, it is also possible that their growth is due to weight gain.

Plastic surgeon Dr. John Di Saia says, “Maybe. It looks like she may have gained a little weight, but she seems much more busty than that we would usually see with small weight gains.”

Plastic surgeon Dr. Sherrell J Aston says, “After reviewing the photographs of singer Leona Lewis I suspect that her current breast size is more due to a weight gain rather than implants.”

The Grammy nominee’s breasts could also be held up by a more supportive bra that better shows off her ample cleavage from previously.

New York plastic surgeon Dr. David Shafer says, “Based on the “then and now” photographs, Leona Lewis does appear to have had breast augmentation. She has a fuller upper pole and more cleavage. However, this could also be the effect of a supportive bra and change in posture between the pictures as well. If she had surgery, it is a job well done.”

Whatever Leona has done to enhance her appearance, it has clearly helped to enhance her career as well and Make Me Heal wishes her luck on her new album.

Is Plastic Surgery Part of The Saved By the Bell Reunion?

If you were a fan of Saved by the Bell back in the day, it seems you were not alone. Late Night’s new host Jimmy Fallon apparently is the show’s number 1 fan and has even put together a petition for a reunion. As the possibility of a reunion show begins to look more promising, Make Me Heal takes a look at the stars of the show and their possible plastic surgery.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar was the center of the show, and his role as Zack Morris made him a part of television history. Now 35, Mark-Paul looks eerily the same as he did when the show was at the height of popularity, leading many to believe he’s had plastic surgery, or dabbled in Botox at the very least. On the other hand, Mark-Paul could be all natural.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar-plastic surgery

Plastic surgeon Dr. Sherrell J. Aston says, “ I do not think that Mr. Gosselaar has had any plastic surgery procedures. He has been fortunate enough to maintain his natural good looks over the years and still looks very youthful. I believe he has maintained a good weight, diet and lifestyle to achieve this. In the future he might want to consider Botox for his forehead and crows feet.”

Mark-Paul made a recent appearance on the Jimmy Fallon show in full Zack Morris character, despite having a successful television career since Saved by the Bell ended. With his bleached blonde hair and tanned-looking skin, it seems that Mark-Paul has had Botox injections, giving him a smoothed forehead and arched eyebrows.

Manhattan plastic surgeon Dr Jennifer Walden says, “Mark-Paul Gosselaar has some normal signs of male facial aging such as a receding hairline and lower set brows. The possibility exists that he has had Botox to help make his forehead smooth. He also has on makeup in some of the photos which makes him look a little unnatural.”

New York plastic surgeon Dr. David Shafer says, “Mark-Paul does not look like he has done any invasive plastic surgery.  I suspect he has Botox on board since it forehead it much longer, brows are lower and the skin just as smooth as it was 15 years ago.

Zack’s long-time love interest on the show, Kelly Kapowski, played by the sexy Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, looks like she may have also gone under the knife.

tiffani-amber-thiessen-plastic-surgery

At 35, Tiffani has only improved with time, and has enhanced her natural beauty with a possible breast augmentation and smoothed away the wrinkles of time with some Botox or a mini-browlift.

Dr. Walden says, “Tiffani Amber Thiessen looks like she has had breast augmentation and now has arched eyebrows and wide eyes, possibly from a mini browlift or Botox.”

Dr. Shafer says, “Tiffani likely has Botox treatments and possible cheek fillers.  However, it is hard to tell if anything else has been done. “

Plastic surgeon Dr. Sherrell J. Aston says, “In my opinion Tiffani Amber Thiessen indeed had plastic surgery. Based on her photos is appears that she has undergone Breast Augmentation and Rhinoplasty. She could also be using filler such as Restylane and or Juvederm.”

Another member of the attractive cast is 36-year old Mario López. Mario is often rumored to have gone under the knife, but the muscle bound hunk who currently hosts entertainment shows and has been on Dancing with the Stars may owe his good looks to healthy living more than good plastic surgery.

Mario Lopez, Plastic Surgery

Dr. David Shafer says, “Mario does not look like he has had any invasive plastic surgery.  He obviously keeps in shape and it has done his body well.”

Dr. Walden says, “Mario Lopez is on DWTS. Many say he may have gone under the knife, however from comparing the before and after pictures, Mario seems to just be aging gracefully. He also may have lost some weight.”

Dr. Aston also noted Mario’s excellent physique, saying, “I think that Mario Lopez looks very good and is a fine example of what consistent good exercise and diet can lead to. His face has matured and when he lost some of his baby fat it reveled a nice high cheekbone. Mr. Lopez is a handsome man and I believe he is aging very well.”

Others members of the cast, including Showgirl Elizabeth Berkley may have also undergone plastic surgery.

Elizabeth Berkley, Plastic Surgery

After Saved by the Bell, 37-year old Elizabeth Berkley broke free of her role as feminist Jessie Spano by appearing in Showgirls, a role for which she may have undergone a breast augmentation. Elizabeth’s face has also taken on a very smooth appearance in recent years, indicating the user of dermal fillers and Botox and she has also been rumored to have had a nose job to help her break free of her Showgirls past.

Dr.  Shafer says, “After viewing the pictures, I suspect that Elizabeth has had some nose work, but it is hard to tell for sure.  In some views, her neck appears thinner as well, which may indicate some liposuction was performed. “

Dr. Aston says, “Elizabeth Berkley is beautiful woman and is aging very well. It is possible that she is using Botox and micro-dermabrasion to keep her face looking so good. It is also possible the she underwent Breast Augmentation Surgery based on her before and after photographs.”

Lark Voorhies, who played Lisa Turtle is now 36 and has never been quite as in the spotlight as during her Saved by the Bell days. Make Me Heal thinks the actress is aging nicely and without the benefit of plastic surgery.

Lark Voorhies, Plastic Surgery

Dr. Shafer says, “From the photos I have seen, it appears that Lark may have had alar base resection of her nose and has a touch of Botox.  However, I would need to see more photos to tell for sure.”

According to Paul S. Nassif, a Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Rhinoplasty Specialist in Beverly Hills, Calif., “It looks as though Lark may have had an ethnic rhinoplasty. If she did, it looks very natural.”

As for Dustin Diamond, who played the nerdy Screech on the series, he has likely not had plastic surgery, although he may have wanted to in order to prepare for his self-released sex tape. Dustin has also struggled with his weight as he is no longer the scrawny Screech, a fact he illustrated on a season of Celebrity Fit Club.

Dustin Diamond, Plastic Surgery

Dr. Shafer says, “Dustin does not look like he has had any invasive plastic surgery either.  He also looks like he has Botox on board since his brows are low and spread laterally and his forehead is smooth.  If he wants suggestions, he may benefit from a cosmetic rhinoplasty.”

Dr. Nassif says, “Most of the Saved by the Bell cast have not had any surgery or Botox.”

While Saved by the Bell wasn’t the best show ever, Make Me Heal looks forward to seeing the whole gang back together for a reunion for nostalgic reasons.

Is Stacey Dash Clueless About Plastic Surgery?

Posted on July 29th, 2009 in Black Plastic Surgery, Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Ethnic Plastic Surgery by Carrie Zender

After noticing that Stacey Dash still looks as good as she did in her star-making role back in the mid ‘90s, Make Me Heal wondered if Stacey Dash is doing like the other cool kids in La La Land and dabbling in plastic surgery.

Best known for her role as Dionne in 1995’s film Clueless, Stacey Dash looks just as stunning at the age of 43 as she did playing a high school student at a fashion-obsessed Beverly Hills high school. Like one of the of the characters in the film, it seems that Stacey may have a rhinoplasty in her plastic surgery past, leaving her with a small button nose with an unusually shaped tip.

Stacey Dash, Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgeon Dr. John Di Saia says, “At some point she had her nose done. It was either done poorly or was a hard one. It is hard to tell.”

Stacey looks like she works hard to maintain her stunning body. Her firm abs and toned arm don’t appear to be result of liposuction treatments, but rather dedication and hard work.

Stacey’s face also looks to be untouched by invasive anti-aging procedures, although she likely gets Botox injections to help with wrinkles around her eyes and in the forehead region.

Dr. Paul S. Nassif, Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at Spalding Drive Cosmetic Surgery said, “Stacey is absolutely beautiful. I think she is extremely natural and hasn’t had any major plastic surgery. She may have had some Botox or lip fillers, but I think that may be it. Cheers to Stacey.”

Plastic surgeon Dr. Sherrell J. Aston said, “I think that Ms. Dash looks very good. It is incredible how she has hardly aged since her first movie. It is possible that she may have had some plastic surgery procedures over the years although they are very natural. Her good looks appear to be a combination of genes, diet and exercise and perhaps surgery.”

Oftentimes, the only real symptoms of aging on a woman who takes good care of herself are in the hands. Hands are overused and so signs of age, even if the rest of the body remains in good or great condition, like Stacey. Luckily, fat grafting can help with this area.

Manhattan plastic surgeon Dr. David Shafer says, “Stacey Dash looks great for 43. However, the hands are the sign of aging and she may want to consider fat grafting to her hands to help camouflage her age. She does not look like she had any invasive plastic surgery on her face, but likely has Botox Cosmetic on board.”

While Stacey has done many projects through the years, she still looks Dionne to Make Me Heal, the best-dressed sidekick ever.

Plastic Surgery At The Movies: Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner, Beyonce, Tom Hanks

With summer blockbusters just around the corner, Make Me Heal takes a look at some of the plastic surgery currently playing in theaters, before the studios bring out the big releases.

Matthew McConaughey, Hair Transplants

New father Matthew McConaughey is known for his killer abs and receding hairline. In his new movie, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, both are readily on display.

Matthew McConaughey has long struggled with hair loss (See Make Me Heal’s story on Matthew McConaughey’s Hair Transplant), but recently, it has been looking better than ever.

Hair restoration expert Dr. Alan Bauman reveals, “Matthew’s hair has been on the rebound for a while now. Publicly, to my knowledge, he’s denied surgical intervention and equates the regrowth to a magical topical potion. However, physicians will agree, nothing grows hair on bald skin except hair transplantation. Even Propecia, which works 90% of the time, is designed for the long haul… keeping the hair you have, NOT re-growth of the hairline. Contrary to popular opinion, today’s hair transplant procedures can be performed comfortably, reliably and efficiently. Not to mention, undetectably. This means that the transplanted hairlines of today, if performed with an “artistic eye,” can mimic the feathery, wavy randomized look of a natural hairline—(i.e. NOT ‘pluggy’). And because the transplanted hair is living and growing (also permanent, by the way), he can shampoo, wash, cut, swim, etc., all without the hassle and maintenance of a hairpiece—which would be an artificial solution to the hair loss problem. Advanced minimally-invasive techniques, like the FUE (Follicular-Unit Extraction) performed with devices like the NeoGraft, also allow for procedures that require no scalpel, no stitches and leave no linear scar give hair transplant patients more options for hair-styling. FUE procedures allow the surgeon to extract hair follicles or groups of follicles individually, without a linear harvest.”

Matthew McConaughey, Hair Transplants

New York plastic surgeon Dr. David Shafer says, “It sure looks like Matthew has more hair now than he did in the past. It is a nice result.”

It also looks like Matthew McConaughey may have dabbled in Botox and facial fillers, as his face looks wrinkle-free considering all the time he spends frolicking in the sun.

Jennifer Garner, Cosmetic surgery

Jennifer Aniston, Plastic Surgery

Matthew’s leading lady in the romantic comedy is actress Jennifer Garner, as famous for her large lips as her breakthrough role on the TV series Alias. (See Make Me Heal’s story on Jennifer Garner’s lip augmentation). Although many believe Jennifer’s lips to be naturally large, some evidence supports the theory that she has used fillers of some kind to augment them.

Beyonce Knowles, Cosmetic Surgery

On the other side of romance, is the thriller, Obsessed, starring obsessed plastic surgery fan, Beyonce Knowles (See Make Me Heal’s story on Beyonce Knowles’ plastic surgery). Since breaking out as the lead singer of Destiny’s Child, Beyonce has reportedly undergone several cosmetic surgery procedures, including a nose job, breast augmentation and liposuction.

Beyonce Knowles, Cosmetic Surgery

Angels & Demons premieres this week, starring Tom Hanks and his notoriously fluctuating hairline (See Make Me Heal’s story on Tom Hanks’ hair transplants).

Tom Hanks, Hair Restoration

Dr. David Shafer notes, “Tom has an unusual hair line, if he has had hair transplants, then he might want some more to achieve a natural look.”

In the follow-up film to the Da Vinci Code, Tom Hanks once again runs around the world as Robert Langdon, bad hair and all.

Dr. Bauman explains, “When it comes to Tom’s ever-changing ‘do’—it appears he’s been through a potpourri of some bizarre styles and even hairpieces over the years. The main aesthetic problem, however, seems to be that there’s a significant loss of the “temporal point” which has not been addressed. This area is critical to the ‘frame’ of the face and the lack of restoration of that area is usually a dead-giveaway that something is awry.

“The good news is that this area does not require a large amount or density of grafts, so it is a big ‘bang for the buck’ when it comes to using the precious donor supply of hair. Most patients do not realize the aesthetic importance of this area, mainly because they are viewing themselves from straight on most of the time.

Tom Hanks, Hair Restoration

“In 1993, you can see he had A LOT more of his temporal point left than today. You can even see the miniaturized hair at the hairline, which was fading at that time.

“When the miniaturization at the hairline is noticeable, that’s the time to take action with non-invasive treatments like Propecia, Minoxidil or Laser Therapy. These are treatments that can help slow and stop the progression of hair loss, so smaller or fewer sessions of transplantation are needed over time.

“In the past, when describing Tom’s hair, you mentioned strip grafts and mini-grafts. These techniques are outdated by about 10 years.

“Most hair transplants today (except for extremely rare cases) are performed using FUT (follicular-unit transplant) techniques—grafts that contain one, two or three hairs, only. Any transplanted grafts larger than that run the risk of looking pluggy. Also, whether the technique used is FUT (follicular-unit transplant) using a strip-harvest or FUE (follicular unit extraction–individually harvesting hair from the back of the scalp) the ‘grafts’ you get are essentially the same: one, two or three hair follicles each.”

Jennifer Aniston, Plastic Surgery

Another actress known for her hair, albeit in a positive way, is actress Jennifer Aniston. Starring in the comedy, Management, Jen is best known for bringing the world, “The Rachel” haircut. Jennifer has also spent her share of time in the plastic surgeon’s office (See Make Me Heal’s story on Jennifer Aniston’s plastic surgery), undergoing rhinoplasty procedures to supposedly correct a deviated septum, as well as cellulite treatments.

Jennifer Aniston, Plastic Surgery

With so much plastic surgery on the big screen, Make Me Heal looks forward to another summer of celebrity plastic surgery hits and misses.

Is Michael Jackson Considering More Plastic Surgery?

In the decade, Michael Jackson has become more known for his plastic surgery addiction than his music. So it was with much alarm that Make Me Heal learned that the King of Pop is planning to have more plastic surgery for his upcoming comeback series of concerts in London.

Michael Jackson, Rhinoplasty

50-year old Michael Jackson has had a tumultuous personal life, but that is nothing compared to the havoc that a plastic surgeon’s knife has wreaked on his face. In the past, Michael has notoriously gone through several rhinoplasty procedures, the last of which was done as a repair. A German doctor reportedly took cartilage from Jackson’s ear to place inside his nose to repair deterioration caused by years of multiple nose jobs. Michael’s nose is now said to be fine, although it previously teetered on the brink of collapse.

In addition to the rumored countless nose jobs, Michael has reportedly also had cheek implants, a smaller jaw as well as a a skin lightening procedure.

After all the work, Jackson is now said to want to have even more plastic surgery, despite it making him look nearly unrecognizable from his days with the Jackson 5.

According to the rumor mill, “Jackson wants to go under the knife again, according to biographer Ian Halperin. He says, Michael has consulted some of the world’s best cosmetologists and surgeons in preparation for this comeback.

On his blog Dr. Anthony Youn responds to the report saying, “That’s a BAD idea. The only plastic surgery he should consider having is corrective plastic surgery. At least it looks like the alleged MRSA infection he may or may not have had is gone.”

Hopefully he decides not to have any more work done and can someday be happy with the Man in The Mirror.

Plastic surgeon Dr. Paul S. Nassif says, “Michael Jackson doesn’t have anything left to do in the way of plastic surgery.”

If Michael Jackson were to get any surgery, Make Me Heal anticipates that he will get facial plastic surgery, including possible fat transplantation to his face to make it look more youthful and plump, fillers to smooth out wrinkles, and possible eyelid surgery to get rid of any signs of aging around the eyes.

Manhattan plastic surgeon Dr. David Shafer says, “Michael Jackson is obviously no stranger to plastic surgery.  Hopefully his tissues have had plenty of time to recuperate since the last time he went under the knife.  He should leave what is left of his nose alone.  If anything, he may benefit from fillers or gaining some weight to help bulk up his gaunt looking face. “

Indeed it seems that Michael should be practicing to be onstage again, not focusing on his appearance as it has gotten him into a great deal of trouble in the past. His retirement shows (and comeback) is set to begin this July with a series of 10 concerts at London’s O2 Arena, being called This is It.

At a press conference, Michael said, These will be my final shows performing in London. “This Is It” really means this is it.

Plastic Surgeon Dr. Sherrel J. Aston says, “Michael Jackson has finally healed from having had  many plastic surgery procedures in the past. Remember when he was wearing a bandage on his nose? He should not have any plastic surgery ever again. He will make a dramatic comeback if he just concentrates on his music.”

Make Me Heal enjoys the legendary performer and hopes he eventually feels secure enough to go out without the mask and without the plastic surgery.

Does Tameka Foster want More Plastic Surgery?

Posted on March 31st, 2009 in Black Plastic Surgery, Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Ethnic Plastic Surgery by Jet H. Ross

Despite a recent near-death experience, the wife of R&B singer Usher, Tameka Foster is still interested in plastic surgery.

Just last month, 37-year old Tameka Foster reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest while under anesthesia for a liposuction being performed in Brazil. Although she is now safe at home, rumors are flowing that Tameka wants to try again. (See Make Me Heal’s story on Tameka Foster’s liposuction).

[Photo removed at celebrity rep’s request.  You may find photo at: http://poponthepop.com/gallery/tameka-foster]

Apparently, an “insider” told the National Enquirer:

“It was the worst few days of Usher’s life — but now he’s frightened to death all over again because Tameka insists she still wants the surgery. She wants to wait a couple of months, and then go through it again in the States. Tameka is still determined to get a full body makeover. Now Usher is desperately trying to convince her that she’s beautiful just the way she is. He swears he’ll be the one in the hospital if he has to go through the risk of another life and death battle with Tameka.”

It is always important for a patient to be in fine medical health before undergoing an elective procedure like plastic surgery. In the case of someone with a negative reaction, it is extra important to understand what went wrong the first time to ensure that it doesn’t happen again.

According to New York Plastic Surgeon Dr. David Shafer, “Tameka had a rare and unfortunate incident when undergoing plastic surgery outside of the country. Before undergoing any further procedures she needs a thorough medical work-up to help prevent any further problems and insure that she does not have any underlying medical conditions. Cosmetic surgery is elective and every effort needs to be made to make sure that she is completely healthy before undergoing any further surgery.”

Plastic surgeon Dr. John Di Saia recommends, “It is very uncommon to have an arrest before surgery, so Ms. Foster already represents an unusual situation. If a patient wanted surgery after such an experience, it would be important to assess what really happened the first time. Then tests would need to be performed to assess her risk in subsequent surgery. Are her heart and respiratory systems up to the task of anesthesia? If so, the surgery would be planned in such a way as to minimize this risk.”

Plastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer Walden also emphasizes the need for Tameka’s health to be stable before trying again, “In regard to reports that Tameka Foster is wanting to undergo an operation now that she is back from Brazil, I would say that getting surgery in the U.S. is a more logical choice since she is an American, and given our country’s standardized approach to training and credentialing of doctors and hospital staff. But since she reportedly had a complication upon induction of anesthesia before undergoing a procedure in Brazil, I would recommend getting a full medical history and physical exam (often termed a medical clearance) prior to surgery so as to possibly avoid another complication or frank tragedy similar to what happened to Donda West. I would also advise to wait at least 6 to 8 months after the birth of her last child or until she reaches a stable weight to that she is physically optimized prior to any elective cosmetic procedure.”

Although Make Me Heal had previously recommended Tameka get a tummy tuck, after getting a sagging belly after giving birth multiple times, it is never a good idea to risk your health for aesthetic purposes. (See Make Me Heal’s story on Tameka Foster’s tummy tuck).

Make Me Heal hopes Tameka takes the doctors’ advise and makes sure that she is in good health before trying for more plastic surgery.

Mexico’s Madonna Alejandra Guzman Gets Plastic Surgery

Posted on March 30th, 2009 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Ethnic Plastic Surgery by Sam Stets

Known as the “Queen of Rock” in the Hispanic world, Alejandra Guzman has one thing in common with many American singers: plastic surgery.

At 41 years old, Alejandra still has a toned tummy and firm arms, clearly the results of hard work and good genes from her showbiz family. But in addition to taking care of herself, Alejandra also appears to have had a plastic surgeon take care of her as well.

Alejandra Guzman, Plastic Surgery

At a recent appearance, Alejandra seems to have gotten small breast implants to help her fill out the sexy clothes she often wears. Alejandra’s wrinkle free and rounded face has likely since its share of needles and scalpels as well. Although she could have naturally high cheeks and large lips, they could also be the results of augmentation.

“Alejandra appears to have had breast implants, which appear slightly displaced in some pictures. Additionally, she appears to have had lip and cheek fillers. Should would benefit from some Botox in her nasalis muscle to help reduce her bunny lines, which are distracting in her most recent photo,” Manhattan plastic surgeon Dr. David Shafer says.

However, some of Alejandra’s face may be her own, according to Dr. Paul S. Nassif, a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon and a rhinoplasty specialist in Beverly Hills, California says, “Alejandra looks as though she may have had an over-aggressive rhinoplasty. Her lips and eyes appear natural with no sign of cosmetic surgery.”

Like most stars in the limelight, Alejandra has found herself at the center of scandals, from her divorce to a drug trafficker to her stint in rehab.

Alejandra has been called the “Mexican Madonna” and given both female singing sensations’ penchant for plastic surgery, that title seems well deserved. (See Make Me Heal’s story on Madonna’s plastic surgery).

Make Me Heal thinks Alejandra’s plastic surgeries, whatever they may be, have left her with great results so far and hopes she continues to go under the knife judiciously, to avoid looking overly plastic.

Did Usher’s Wife, Tameka Foster, Have A Plastic Surgery Mishap?

Posted on March 6th, 2009 in Black Plastic Surgery, Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Ethnic Plastic Surgery by Erica Hurtz

A few weeks ago, the Internet world was shocked to find out that singer Usher’s wife, Tameka Foster had undergone serious complications during a rumored plastic surgery done overseas.

[Photo removed at celebrity rep’s request.  You may find photo at: http://poponthepop.com/gallery/tameka-foster]

Make Me Heal and its plastic surgeons have often warned of the dangers of overseas surgery, which is often used by patients as cheaper alternative to the stringent laws in place here in the States and are sorry to learn that Tameka Foster may be the latest victim of a botched plastic surgery.

According to plastic surgeon, Dr. Jennifer Walden, “Usher’s wife and her doctor together made a questionable decision to have an elective body-contouring procedure so soon after she gave birth. According to an inside source (a Brazilian plastic surgeon colleague), the procedure she was to undergo was liposuction. During induction of anesthesia, she suffered a cardiac arrest, was resuscitated, and placed into an induced coma and transferred to a highly reputable hospital to recover.”

“The purported benefit of surgery in another country, whether it is for the sake of anonymity, a “discount”, or perceived difference in surgical technique, can quickly be wiped out once a complication occurs and the patient is outside of her home country. I still don’t understand why American celebrities seek surgery in other countries when the highest standards of technique, practice, credentialing and training among physicians and hospital staff is present in the United States of America.”

Make Me Heal had previously recommended a tummy tuck for 37-year Tameka Foster a few years ago, before her marriage to 30-year old Usher, as she was already a mother (See Make Me Heal’s story on Tameka Foster’s plastic surgery).

Tameka Foster, Usher, Plastic Surgery

On his blog, plastic surgeon Dr. John Di Saia writes, “We know that Usher’s wife (Tameka Foster) was to have an operation in South America recently and it was aborted due to cardiac arrest. This has been referred to as botched plastic surgery although we do not know if any plastic surgery occurred.”

“I serve as an expert reviewer on California’s Medical Board for plastic surgery cases. In the really rare event that cardiac arrest occurs in any elective surgery case, it is frequently an issue of hypoxia, meaning adequate oxygen wasn’t getting to the patient’s tissues. This is more likely when the center in which the procedure is being performed is not ‘up to snuff’ on equipment and staff.

Was this the cause in Mrs. Foster’s case? I don’t know. Furthermore, I do not know what the procedure is for investigating such an incident outside of the State of California. As I have said before there are risks to ‘Surgical Tourism.’

Hopefully Mrs. Foster will recover well for this unfortunate event. It is my understanding that she had returned to the US at this point.”

Plastic surgeon Dr. Sherrell J Aston also weighed in on Tameka’s decision to undergo plastic surgery overseas, soon after giving birth. He says, “Ushers’ wife apparently went to Brazil for liposuction approximately two months following the birth of a baby. Sources say she suffered a cardiopulmomary arrest at the time of anesthesia induction and did not have any surgery. While this is very unusual to happen to a young healthy person it obviously can happen. None of the medical facts have been reported from Brazil. Most surgeons would not want to perform liposuction of a woman who gave birth two months earlier as the body has not returned to the shape it will be a few months later.”

Surprisingly, rumor has it that Usher was unaware of his wife’s decision to undergo any procedure and learned of the tragic incident along with the rest of the world, via the Internet.

Make Me Heal looks forward to learning more facts of the unfortunate incident and wishes Tameka a speedy recovery.

Rihanna’s Possible Plastic Surgery Recovery

Posted on March 2nd, 2009 in Black Plastic Surgery, Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Ethnic Plastic Surgery by Caitlin Miller

A few weeks ago, the world was shocked when pop singer Rihanna was rushed to the hospital by emergency services after being attacked by her boyfriend singer Chris Brown. As more information about the beating was released, many began to wonder if the Barbados-born beauty would need plastic surgery to recover.

After viewing the picture taken by police of the results of 19-year old Chris Brown’s anger on 21-year old Rihanna’s face, Make Me Heal thought that she might need a lot of ice for a while, but that plastic surgery would hopefully be unnecessary. Our panel of plastic surgery experts, who felt that Rihanna needed a better boyfriend rather than a plastic surgeon, echoed our thoughts.

Rihanna, Plastic Surgery

Dr. Jennifer Walden weighed in with Make Me Heal, saying, “What Rihanna needs is a new boyfriend and counseling to get out of an abusive relationship as soon as possible (if the allegations are true regarding Chris Brown). Thoughts and prayers are with her during what must be a difficult time.”

After seeing the initial trauma photo, Dr. Sherrell J Aston said, “Rihanna’s face needs time to recover and then one can evaluate. She may not need anything. It is too early to tell anything other than she needs a new boyfriend.”

According to plastic surgeon Dr. John Di Saia, “Rihanna looked a bit bruised but I didn’t see anything needing plastic surgery in the images I saw posted on TMZ.”

Other plastic surgeons noted that while the bruising and swelling might heal, the need for plastic surgery would come from possible broken bones.

Dr. Anthony Youn said, “Photos appear to show a good deal of trauma to her face, specifically bruising and swelling of her forehead, cheeks, eyes, and lips. Unless she has suffered lacerations or broken bones, the bruising and swelling should dissipate quickly over the next couple weeks. I would expect that she will return to her former state of beauty within a month or so, provided that none of her facial bones were fractured in the assault.”

Plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Nassif told Make Me Heal, “Rihanna suffered multiple bruises and abrasions, as well as a possible trauma to her nose and laceration to her lip. All in all, she was beaten up pretty bad.”

Shortly after the incident, Rihanna released the following statement through her publicist:

“At the request of the authorities, Rihanna is not commenting about the incident involving Chris Brown. She wants to assure her fans that she remains strong, is doing well, and deeply appreciates the outpouring of support she has received during this difficult time.”

Since the first picture of Rihanna’s bruised face surfaced on the popular gossip site, TMZ, she has since been seen recovering in Mexico, looking only slightly the worse for the wear.

The popular couple has drawn comparisons to another famous singing duet with a history of violence, Ike and Tina Turner (See Make Me Heal’s story on Tina Turner’s plastic surgery).

Despite many wishing that Rihanna would get out from the heavy hand of Chris, reports have surfaced that couple are once again together and spending time in one of Sean “Diddy” Combs’s homes, on Miami Beach’s Star Island.

In the past, Make Heal has reported on the singer’s possible plastic surgery, as some photos seem to indicate that Rihanna had a nose job in her past (See Make Me Heal’s story on Rihanna’s plastic surgery).

Make Me Heal is happy to see that Rihanna’s body is recovering and hopes she makes the right decision in regard to her love life.

Plastic Surgery for the 2009 Best Supporting Actress Oscar Nominees

As the Oscars draw ever closer, Make Me Heal has decided to take a look at all the nominees for Best Supporting Actress and their plastic surgery profiles.

34-year old Amy Adams has been nominated for her role in Doubt, making it her second Oscar nomination. The multi-talented actress, who also sings is unusual because she seems to have reached fame without any major plastic surgery. At most, the fresh-faced redhead has used Botox to keep her brow smooth and wrinkle-free. See Make Me Heal’s story on Amy Adam’s plastic surgery.

Penelope Cruz is also 34-year and nominated for her second Oscar for her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Unlike her competitor, it seems that Penelope has spent some time in the plastic surgeon’s office. The Spanish beauty may have undergone a rhinoplasty in the past, leaving her with an unusually shaped nasal tip. She may have also dabbled in lip injections in the past. Although Penelope has never admitted to going under the knife, she has never spoken out against plastic surgery, either. See Make Me Heal’s story on Penelope Cruz’s plastic surgery.

43-year old Viola Davis has been nominated for her first Academy Award for her role in Doubt. Like her co-star Amy Adams, it seems that Viola has probably not had very much plastic surgery, although some photos have revealed a possible ethnic rhinoplasty. Viola also used to have a very gummy-looking smile, which may have been corrected by using Botox injections. See Make Me Heal’s story on Viola Davis’ plastic surgery.

Viola Davis, Cosmetic Surgery

38-year old Taraji P. Henson is the other woman of color nominated for an Oscar in a major category, for her role in the film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Taraji is another example of stunning natural beauty that has been unaided by plastic surgery, although some dermatological treatments, like microdermabrasion, could help her shine even more at the upcoming event. See Make Me Heal’s story on Taraji P. Henson’s plastic surgery.

Taraji Henson, Plastic Surgery

44-year old Marisa Tomei has been nominated for her third Oscar for her work in The Wrestler. Although older than her co-nominees, Marisa appears to be plastic surgery free and still look just as good, if not better than her younger peers. Plastic surgeons seem to agree that some eye work would be beneficial for Marisa, but that the most the actress seems to have done is a little Botox in the forehead region. See Make Me Heal’s story on Marisa Tomei’s plastic surgery.

Marisa Tomei, Plastic Surgery

Make Me Heal enjoyed all the nominees’ performances and wishes them the best of luck at the Academy Awards.
