David Gest Regrets Plastic Surgery

Posted on February 3rd, 2010 in Awful/Bad Plastic Surgery, Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Male Plastic Surgery by Dana Jackson

David Gest was only known in the entertainment industry before he married Liza Minnelli. But he’s now a household name and may be better known for his bad plastic surgery than for his failed marriage.

56-year old TV star-and-concert promoter David Gest says that he was encouraged to have plastic surgery by his close friend Michael Jackson, but its not the late legend’s fault that the results were so bad.

David Gest, Plastic Surgery

David, who has had two facelifts and a nose realignment procedure, says, “On Celebrity Come Dine With Me, I discuss the plastic surgery I had done between 1980-1981 and blame only myself for being so foolish, especially not Michael Jackson nor anyone else. I was an idiot. I look back at that time and think of myself as being so stupid, and was very appreciative of Michael’s support and being there when I went through all that.”

In addition, he also says he got cheek implants and a cleft chin, but both were his idea.

“It was my idea to put in a clef chin and cheek bones - not Michael’s. Sometimes when you are young you are foolish and you get carried away. I remember I was looking in the mirror in an office building when I was with Band of Gold singer Freda Payne. I was mortified and almost fainted. I had the cheekbones removed a week later. I’ve come to realize that it’s not what’s on the outside, but it’s what’s on the inside that counts.”

It’s nice that David has spoken openly about his plastic surgery mistakes and seems to have learned from them.

Dr. Paul S. Nassif, a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon and a rhinoplasty specialist in Beverly Hills, California, says, “It is clear David Gest had some work done in the past, and may benefit from having subtle revisions performed to his previous surgeries to create a more natural appearance. “

Board certified Manhattan plastic surgeon Dr. David Shafer says, “It is definitely not the most flattering photo of David Gest.  His eyebrows appear unnaturally peaked, hairline looks unnatural and midface unbalanced.”

Makemeheal.com is glad that David has learned from his mistakes and is pleased that he can have corrective surgery on his now effeminate appearance.

Is Paul McCartney Engaged to Plastic Surgery (Again)?

Posted on January 25th, 2010 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Male Plastic Surgery by Dana Jackson

Since his wife Linda tragically passed away from cancer, former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney just hasn’t been the same. With his possible engagement to yet another younger woman, American Nancy Shevell, Sir Paul might want to consider some more plastic surgery.

67-year old legendary musician has been under the knife before, to undergo an upper and lower eyelid surgery procedure known as a blepharoplasty (See Make Me Heal’s story on Paul McCartney’s plastic surgery).

Sir Paul Mccartney, Plastic Surgery

Now, with his recent engagement to 48-year old Nancy Shevell, Paul may want to go under the knife again, for a lower facelift and necklift to reduce the sagging skin around his neck. A couple of injections of Botox or Radiesse may also be beneficial to get rid of some of the surviving Beatle’s crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles.

Board certified Manhattan plastic surgeon Dr Paul McCartney says, “Paul McCartney would benefit from a lower facelift and neck lift.  He could also use filler such as Radiesse in his midface.  Botox Cosmetic would be useful for his crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles.”

48-year old Nancy likely has some minor plastic surgery herself, like Botox across her forehead and the 11 between the eyebrows and may also use laser treatments like Fraxel to stay youthful looking. In addition, she clearly works out and has the body to prove it.

Paul’s ex-wife Heather Mills, was also a notorious plastic surgery user. The one-legged former model reportedly had a nose job, liposuction and breast augmentation before the relationship ended badly (See Make Me Heal’s story on Heather Mills’ plastic surgery).

Make Me Heal wishes Sir Paul the best of luck this time around.

Do Conan O’brien, Jay leno and David Letterman Need Plastic Surgery to Stay on Top?

Posted on January 21st, 2010 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Male Plastic Surgery by Erica Hurtz

After weeks of drama, it seems that the controversy surrounding the top late night show hosts is finally over, with the announcement of Conan O’Brien’s payout from NBC and Jay Leno’s return to The Tonight Show. Then there was David Letterman’s admission to having affairs with interns a few weeks ago. But Makemeheal.com wants to know how would these funny guys’ routines improve with a little plastic surgery?

Supporters of “Team Coco,” Conan O’Brien will be happy to learn that NBC has given the 46-year old around $33 million to leave The Tonight Show, with another $12 million going to his supporting staff. Maybe the hyped-up ginger would have lasted a little longer if he took better care of his appearance and used some Botox to relax his forehead and some fillers in his cheeks to even out the hollows.

Conan OBrien, Plastic Surgery

Board certified Manhattan plastic surgeon Dr David Shafer says, “Conan O’Brien would also benefit from Botox Cosmetic around his eyes.  This will help elevate the brow and maybe hold off a upper lid belpharoplasty.  A little Botox in his forehead would also help smooth his skin.”

If you happened to be upset when Jay Leno announced he was leaving The Tonight Show he hosted since the retirement of late night legend Johnny Carson in the early 90s, then you’ll be happy to know that the big-chinned car geek is returning to his time slot. The 59-year old year old car expert could have had a jaw reduction at some point, but then what physical attribute would his competition have to mock? In the meantime, some Botox could help get rid of some of his frown lines between the eyes.

Jay Leno, Plastic Surgery

Dr Shafer says, “From the photo, it appears that Jay Leno would see significant improvement with Botox Cosmetic around his eye to help his crow’s feet and in her forehead to help smooth the skin.  He needs to make sure that he sees an experienced injector since he needs to maintain natural animation.”

The sarcastic David Letterman is always the first to throw stones at other public figures infidelities, but was surprisingly sober about his own. The 62-year old host of Late Night with David Letterman is looking like he could use some hair plugs up front and maybe some Botox to get rid of the deep “11” mark between his brows. Or maybe just living a less complicated personal life would help the man notoriously in need of better dentistry to look more relaxed.

David Letterman, Plastic Surgery

Dr Shafer says, “Like most people, David Letterman would benefit from Botox Cosmetic around his eyes to help with his crows feet.  He also appears to have deep glabellar lines which could be improved with Botox.”

Make Me Heal is glad that all the chaos of the past few weeks is over and looks forward to some new material from the hosts.

Jeremy Piven’s Bad Hair Transplant Scar

Posted on January 11th, 2010 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Male Plastic Surgery, Plastic Surgeon Articles & Interviews by Makemeheal.com Staff

By Alan J. Bauman, M.D.

Although linear harvesting or ‘the strip-method’ is the least expensive way to transplant hair, it can lead to a ‘tell-tale’ donor scar which may be visible from a distance if not covered with enough surrounding hair.

This recent photo of Jeremy Piven (courtesy: TMZ) reveals a particulary wide, likely non-trichophytic, linear donor hair transplant scar.

Jeremy Piven, Plastic Surgery

To avoid a linear scar in the first place, consider hair transplantation with the FUE or Follicular Unit Extraction approach.  A new device, called NeoGraft, allows the surgical team to efficiently transplant more hair follicles during an FUE procedure than before.  YouTube celeb Kevin ’Nalts’ Nalty and Actor/Director Greg Benson (Mediocre Films) both recently underwent FUE/NeoGraft hair transplants and documented their experiences on YouTube.  FUE with NeoGraft, as seen recently on Rachael Ray “Plastic Surgery Breakthroughs,” allows the harvesting of follcicles from the donor area without the use of a scalpel, stitches or staples.  And, while no procedure can be 100% scar-free, after a matter of days healing is complete and undetectable from a social distance–even with a very short haircut.

If you must undergo a linear harvest (perhaps due to budget or extensive hair loss), be sure your hair transplant surgeon is adept at ‘trichophytic closures.’  A trichophytic closure or tricho-closure is a microsurgical closure technique which allows hair to eventually grow hair through the scar–helping to camouflage it.

Tricho-closures are not a 100% perfect solution, but typically allow for shorter haircuts than non-trichophytic linear closures.  Also, in preparation for your transplant, let your hair length in the donor area grow to at least 1 inch.  This will allow camouflage of the stitches immediately following a linear harvest.

If you’ve already had a linear harvest and have a troublesome scar, all is not lost!  A small FUE/NeoGraft hair transplant procedure can be used to redistribute healthy donor hair follicles into the scar tissue left from hair transplants or scars from other scalp surgery, thereby camouflaging it.   Linear Scar Camouflage procedures typically require about 250-350 follicular-unit grafts and now with NeoGraft, can often be completed in just an hour or two.   Sometimes, more than one scar-camouflage procedure is needed, depending on the severity of the scar.   Again, scar-camouflage procedures are not a 100% cure for a bad scar, but they can often dramatically improve the coverage with just a single FUE/NeoGraft session.

Below is an example of an FUE/NeoGraft donor area Before, Immediately After and One-Week After harvesting of 1600+ Follicular-unit grafts.  More FUE donor area photos, including extraction and implantation pictures are on flickr.

Hair Transplant, Plastic Surgery

My suggestion to Mr. Piven would be to consider FUE/NeoGraft hair transplant procedure to camouflage the linear donor scar.

Do Men of a Certain Age: Ray Romano, Scott Bakula and Andre Braugher Need Plastic Surgery?

Posted on January 7th, 2010 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Ethnic Plastic Surgery, Male Plastic Surgery by Carrie Zender

Scott Bakula hasn’t been on a hit television series in a long time, so Makemeheal.com was interested to see him paired up with comedian Ray Romano and actor Andre Braugher in the new series Men of a Certain Age. With a certain age comes wrinkles and plastic surgery is the only thing that can help. So can plastic surgery help these men?

Scott Bakula, Plastic Surgery

Men of a Certain Age centers around three friends from college pushing 50.

52-year old Ray Romano made a name for himself on the popular sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond.” Now he’s got a new show and could possibly due with a new look, involving some Botox or Dysport injections and dermal fillers like Juvederm and Restylane.

Ray Romano, Plastic Surgery

Dr. Paul S. Nassif, a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon and a rhinoplasty specialist in Beverly Hills, California, says, “Ray Romano does not appear to have had any plastic surgery.  He may benefit from some Botox and fillers if he wishes to reduce the appearance of any lines but that is about all. Ray has a very natural appearance overall, and it is strictly up to him if he were to undergo any procedures or fillers.”

Board certified Manhattan plastic surgeon Dr. David Shafer says, “Ray Romano does not look like he has had plastic surgery.  He, like most people, could use a touch of Botox Cosmetic to help smooth the lines around his eyes and soften his forehead.  Liposuction of his neck and chin would also give him a more defined, youthful look.”

Multi-talented 55-year old Scott Bakula is best known for his roles on Quantum Leap and Enterprise, but he’s given up singing and sci-fi for his role on the new series. Like Ray, Scott seems to have gotten through his career on his natural good looks and notoriously fit body. If Scott was interested in looking a bit younger, he could use some Botox and other fillers around some of the deeper lines in his forehead.

Dr Nassif says, “Scott Bakula does not appear to have had any plastic surgery to this point.  He may benefit from some Botox and fillers if he wishes to reduce the appearance of any lines but that is about all. Scott has a natural look, and should definitely go with it.”

Dr Shafer says, “Scott Bakula also does not appear to have had facial plastic surgery.  He would benefit from Botox Cosmetic for his crow’s feet, glabella and forehead.  He has a fairly ptotic (drooping) brow which could be elevated with Botox Cosmetic.  Also, he has some flattening of his midface and moderate nasolabial folds which would be improved with injections such as Juvederm Ultra Plus or Radiesse.  His glabellar “11′ lines also won’t be completely eliminated with Botox Cosmetic.  He may also benefit Juvederm or fat grafting to his glabellar lines.”

47-year old Andre Braugher is the youngest of the crew, but he too is carrying some of the crevices that come with age. To take care of the lines creasing his forehead, Andre could consider some Dysport or Botox injections as well.

Andre Braugher, Plastic Surgery

Dr Nassif says, “Andre Braugher does not appear to have had any plastic surgery to this point.  He may benefit from some Botox and fillers if he wishes to reduce the appearance of any lines but that is about all. Andre looks very natural, and any work he may have done in the future is strictly a personal preference.”

Dr Shafer says, “Andre Braugher does not appear to have had plastic surgery.  He could benefit from neck and chin Smartlipo to help tighten the skin and better define his jawline.  He also has ptosis (drooping) of his midface which could be improved with injections of Juvederm Ultra Plus or Radiesse or, possibly, a midface lift.  This is improve his nasolabial fold and overall appearance.”

Men of a Certain Age seems like an interesting premise for an industry obsessed with youth. Fans of the trio can watch Monday nights at 10/9c on TNT.

Did Actor Timothy Olyphant Get Some Plastic Surgery?

Posted on January 7th, 2010 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Male Plastic Surgery by Erica Hurtz

Timothy Olyphant isn’t a household name, despite having appeared in many popular movies and TV shows over the years. But Makemeheal.com suspects that Timothy might be changing his appearance to go a little further in his career.

41-year old Timothy Olyphant often plays the bad guy, thanks to his wicked good looks, and television may recognize him for roles on the series Deadwood and Damages. But he might be straightening out a little, thanks to some cosmetic dentistry and veneers.

Tim Olypahnt, Plastic Surgery

Dr. Paul S. Nassif, a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon and a rhinoplasty specialist in Beverly Hills, California says, “Timothy Olyphant does not appear to have had any additional work done besides dental veneers. His appearance is very natural.”

Board certified Manhattan plastic surgeon Dr. David Shafer says, “Timothy Olyphant’s veneers have made a nice change.  They are not oversized or over white like many people mistakenly do.”

In addition to dental veneers Timothy may also have gotten some Botox injections around his eyes and to eliminate wrinkles across his forehead.

Plastic surgeon Dr Sherrell J Aston says, “Mr. Olyphant’s dental veneers look good and give him a more polished appearance. I think that it is possible that he has had Botox around his forehead and eye area.”

Timothy looks great for his age and it seems his early training as a swimmer has kept him in great shape. Fans can next check out Timothy in Justified, where he stars as an old-school lawman on FX.

Does Marilyn Manson Cover up Plastic Surgery with Make-up?

Posted on January 6th, 2010 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Male Plastic Surgery by Jet H. Ross

Controversial performer Marilyn Manson recently took a night off from heavy stage make-up, giving Make Me Heal a glimpse as to whether or not the middle aged bad boy has been indulging in plastic surgery.

40-year old Marilyn Manson, born Brian Hugh Warner celebrated getting back together with 22-year old actress Evan Rachel Wood by going out to dinner with considerably less make up than usual, giving fans a glimpse at the man behind the mask.

Marilyn Manson, Plastic Surgery'

Dr. Paul S. Nassif, a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon and a rhinoplasty specialist in Beverly Hills, California says, “Evan Rachel Wood is still very young.  There is a possibility she had rhinoplasty at some point in her life, as her nose is very straight and perky. Other than potential rhinoplasty, her looks have not been enhanced by any cosmetic procedures to this point.”

What was revealed was nothing special and certainly nothing surgical. In fact, Marilyn could do with some facial treatments like Fraxel and chemical peels to help restore and revitalize the damage years of wearing heavy make-up have caused. He could also use some Botox or Dysport to smooth out the wrinkles that crease his forehead, making him look older than 40.

Plastic surgeon Dr Sherrell J Aston says, “I do not think Mr. Manson has had any plastic surgery.”

Dr Nassif says, “Marilyn Manson may have had fillers around his face and Botox in his forehead.  But if this is the case it was used sparingly, as lines are still slightly present. Rhinoplasty is a possibility at some point in his life, as his bridge appears narrow.”

Board certified Manhattan plastic surgeon Dr David Shafer says, “What a difference with no makeup.  From the untouched photo, it appears like Marilyn Manson would benefit from some mid face filler such as Radiesse, upper lip filler such as Juvederm and a little Botox in the forehead and crow’s feet region.”

While Make Me Heal doesn’t understand beautiful Evan’s attraction to the theatrical Marilyn, we still wish them the best of luck with their recently announced engagement.

Should Tiger Woods Get Reconstructive Plastic Surgery For His Birthday?

Legendary golfer Tiger Woods turns 34 today, but it may not be a happy birthday if the philandering family man is undergoing reconstructive plastic surgery as the rumor mill has it.

The Sun has quoted Furman Bisher, one of America’s most respected sports journalists, as having said that Tiger Woods needed his face rebuilding after his angry wife Elin Nordegren hit him with a golf club, late last month.

Tiger Woods, Plastic Surgery

According to the blogosphere, during the altercation that set off a media frenzy, Elin reportedly threw a club at Tiger’s face, not only smashing his face, and requiring several stitches, but chipping quite a few teeth as well.

Depending on the damage done by the club, Tiger could require something as simple as stitches or as invasive and bone grafting. To restore his teeth, he would likely need cosmetic dental veneers or even implants to regain his perfect smile.

While undergoing major plastic surgery to reconstruct his face would explain Tiger’s absence from public view since the incident took place, it seems unlikely as Elin is wandering around free (without her wedding ring) and clear and has not been arrested for assault.

On the other hand, if Tiger were to undergo plastic surgery, he would be in good company as many of his mistresses and possibly even his wife, have also been under the knife.

(See bottom of article for a list of all the stories on mistresses of Tiger Woods and Makemeheal.com’s take on whether they had plastic surgery).

Make Me Heal wishes Tiger a happy birthday, despite the events of the past month or so.

Did Jay-Z Get an Ethnic Rhinoplasty?

Photos of Jay-Z have revealed that his nose appears to be slightly slimmer than in the past, indicating that he may have followed in his wife, Beyonce Knowles’ dancing footsteps and had an ethnic rhinoplasty sometime during the past decade. (See Make Me Heal’s story on Beyonce Knowles’ plastic surgery).

Past photos of Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, reveal a very wide nose with a very bulbous, rounded tip. Newer photos of the recently turned 40-year old show that his nose appears to have been slightly narrowed and the round tip made less pronounced. While the difference could be the angle of the camera, it could also indicate a slight ethnic rhinoplasty.

Jay Z, Plastic Surgery

Manhattan plastic surgeon Dr Jennifer Walden says, “Based on pictures that are available, it appears that the ala, or nostrils, are less wide and the tip is refined. An alar base resection is usually what is performed to achieve a more narrow, less flared look of the nostrils.  The new nose gives a nicely balanced look to his face yet still retains his ethnicity.”

Plastic surgeon Dr Sherrell J Aston says, “After reviewing Jay-Z’s recent photographs it does appear that he has had a Rhinoplasty. It is especially evident when looking at his tip and nostril size. His surgeon did a good job making his nose look proportionate to his other features.”

Dr. Paul S. Nassif, a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon and a rhinoplasty specialist in Beverly Hills, California says, “Jay-Z appears to have had rhinoplasty.  His nostrils appear less flared than they were. He may have had alar base reduction, which narrows the nostrils.  HIs surgeon did an excellent job, and his nose compliments his face very well.”

Board certified Manhattan plastic surgeon Dr David Shafer says, “Jay Z’s nose looks slight refined and narrower from the previous photo.  However, everyone’s nose changes with age, so it is hard to tell if he has had surgery or if it is just due to the camera angles.”

If Jay-Z has had a nose job, he would join a long history of black performers who have gone under the knife.

Make Me Heal wishes Jay-Z the best of luck with his most recent album The Blueprint 3 and looks forward to seeing what celebrity shenanigans he gets into with Beyonce.

Sherlock Holmes Premieres Plastic Surgery

Posted on December 29th, 2009 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Male Plastic Surgery by Carrie Zender

With the recent release of the latest incarnation of the world’s greatest detective, Make Me Heal also discovered some plastic surgery for the film’s stars: Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.

44-year old Robert Downey has remodeled his body to become a movie hero since his bad-ass days. Hard work has revealed rock hard abs, which he shows off in his role as Sherlock Holmes. Although he is known for living a hard life, he is none the worse for the wear, thanks to laser treatments like Fraxel and chemical peels. (See Make Me Heal’s story on Robert Downey Jrs’ plastic surgery).

Robert Downey Jr, Plastic Surgery

36-year old Jude Law may be back with his former girlfriend Sienna Miller (See Make Me Heal’s story on Sienna Miller’s plastic surgery), but he hasn’t regained any of his hair. Instead, Jude Law is likely relying on either digital enhancement or hair plugs to have a full head of hair in his role as Holmes’ sidekick, Dr John Watson.

Jude Law, Plastic Surgery

Jude’s hairline seems to go back and forth, indicating that he may use hairpieces for some work and digital enhancement for others. (See Make Me Heal’s on Jude Law’s hair loss).

Whether or not Holmes and Watson are more than just friends, as has been suggested by the film’s stars, they certainly have good looks in common.
