When Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas split up earlier this year, many were shocked but not surprised. Despite having one of the longer marriages in Hollywood, the couple had been plagued by rumors of trouble in paradise for years. Although the duo always appeared very supportive in public, it turns out that they had very different beliefs, including their thoughts on plastic surgery.
Since being a Working Girl way back when, 57-year old Melanie Griffith had become better known for her over zealous plastic surgery than for her acting skills or even her parentage. Melanie admitted to collagen injections in her lips, but never opened up whether or not rumors of other plastic surgery procedures were true. In addition to lip augmentation, Melanie is thought to have had breast augmentation, liposuction, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), repeated lip augmentation and Botox injections, and a possible forehead lift and facelift that give her the odd appearance she currently sports.
While Melanie was busy trying to fight back the sands of time, Antonio Banderas has been aging naturally.
The 53-year old Latino hunk is due to appear in the upcoming Expendables 3 film and has said that he has no plans to undergo any sort of plastic surgery in the future.
Speaking to The Times newspaper, Antonio said, ‘I’m not going to touch my face. I’m not going to put Botox and all that s**t in it. No, no, no. I will get older naturally.”
It sounds like while Antonio blamed the industry’s emphasis on youth for his soon to be ex-wife going under the knife multiple times, he has learned from her mistakes. Or perhaps he was just making a dig at his ex.
And while Antonio isn’t a fan of Botox, his costars in The Expendables have different thoughts. Creator and star of the franchise, Sylvester Stallone is a known fan of plastic surgery—although he is commonly thought to have overdone it as well. Sly is thought to have had including facelift and possible blepharoplasty surgeries as well as chemical peels and Botox. More recently, scarring on his face indicates that he probably had a forehead lift as well.
Now, Antonio is not only content with his looks, but also with his plans for the future. He says, ”I used to be searching for something and I didn’t know what it was but now I just say, ‘I’m fine. I’m OK. I’m not searching for anything. And that is when things start coming, and it all starts to happen again.”
While Antonio is content to maintain the status quo, Melanie has been spotted undergoing laser tattoo removal treatments on multiple occasions in an effort to remove Antonio’s name from the heart tattoo on her upper bicep.
So far, the tattoo has remained, although it looks as though the treatments may be beginning to take effect and gradually fade. Tattoo removal can be a lengthy and painful process, much like going through a Hollywood divorce and divvying up the assets.
