  • According to recent reports, The First Lady of the United States isn’t just inspiring women to take a look at their wardrobes, she may also be inspiring a new trend in plastic surgery as more and more women are reportedly seeking “Michelle Obama arms.”

Several blogs and news outlets have reported increased interest in patients willing to undergo arm lift recovery, in an effort to have stunning arms like FLOTUS or actress Jennifer Aniston.

Arm lift surgery, also known as brachioplasty is generally reserved for patients that have lost massive amounts of weight and are left with so much loose skin that it gets in the way of daily life.

On his blog, celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn reminds patients that with plastic surgery, comes scarring.

He says, “The problem with the arm lift (aka brachioplasty) is that it leaves a long scar that extends from elbow to armpit.  The scar is visible when you wave at someone and lift your arm up.  For this reason, it’s usually reserved for people with a lot of excess skin, such as massive weight loss patients.  It’s typically combined with liposuction for an optimal result.”

Rather than turn to plastic surgery for a little tightening that will leave you with a scar, most patients are recommended to first try weight lifting or workouts that focus on the arms.
