While some celebrities seem to revel in changing up their locks on a weekly basis, whether it’s with a new color or a new braided hairstyle, Sam & Cat star Ariana Grande sports a thick, half up and half down hairstyle. While every so often it may change slightly for a magazine spread, overall the look is the same. After getting a lot of heat from fans about her “boring” hair, Ariana took to social media to dish on the reason for it.
20-year old Ariana says that her role as Cat took a toll on her natural hair, explaining via Instagram, “”I had to bleach my hair and dye it red every other week for the first 4 years of playing Cat . . . as one would assume, that completely destroyed my hair. I now wear a wig on Sam & Cat. My real hair is back to brown and I wear extensions, but I wear it in a pony tail because my actual hair is so broken that it looks absolutely ratchet and absurd when I let it down.”
While other stars suffering from over-processed hair opt to cut it short, as in Jennifer Lawrence’s pixie cut or Jennifer Aniston’s bob, Ariana says she tried other solutions, but the extensions work best for her, at least for now.
“I tried wigs, they looked RIDICULOUS. Tried a weave because I am working on a new project and want to try some different looks, and literally wanted to rip my scalp off,” the “Tattooed Heart” singer explained. “So as annoying as it is for y’all to have to look at the same hair style all the time, it’s all that works for now (AND I’m comfortable for the first time in years) . . . And trust me, it’s even more difficult for me to have to wait forever for my natural hair to grow back and to have to wear more fake hair than every drag queen on earth combined,” she joked.
She also urged fans to find other things to focus on, rather than her hairstyle.
“So PLEASE gimme a break about the hair (or just don’t look at me lol.) IT’S JUST HAIR AFTER ALL,” she wrote. “There are way way way more important things. Love y’all very much.”
Ariana is probably making a safe choice by sporting temporary hair extensions. Other stars that wear weaves have actually suffered from hair loss as they attempt to cover up their thinning hair. Over the years stars such as Naomi Campbell and Kim Kardashian have actually revealed that they have bald patches because of the pressure weaves place on the hair.
In addition to waiting for her natural hair to grow back on it’s own, Ariana may want to use treatments and products that are designed to stimulate hair growth, including shampoos, treatments, conditioners, serums, vitamins and even laser treatments. Although Miley Cyrus enjoyed shocking the world when she shaved her head, she is said to be taking supplements in an effort to restore her formerly long locks.none
