  • Melissa Leo is up for her second Academy Award nomination, this time for Best Supporting Actress in The Fighter. Melissa is stepping up her campaign for the win by taking out ads of herself in trade papers, showcasing her glamor, but not her plastic surgery.

50-year old Melissa Leo has taken her campaign for Oscar gold by taking out ads showcasing her glamour in sequins and fur. She has defended her unusual tactics by saying, “I took matters into my own hands. I knew what I was doing and told my representation how earnest I was about this idea. I had never heard of any actor taking out an ad as themselves and I wanted to give it a shot.”

Melissa looks good in the self-promoting photos, but chalk it up to good makeup, clever camera angles and airbrushing because The Fighter star could definitely use some plastic surgery to help rejuvenate her image.

Although makeup does wonders, Melissa could do with full facial rejuvenation surgery, including a facelift to tighten her up over all, necklift, upper blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) to take care of her drooping eyelids, as well as some fat grafting and fillers and a little Botox in her forehead. Overall, it looks as though Melissa hasn’t had any rejuvenating procedures since her last nomination for her work in Frozen River (See Make Me Heal’s story on Melissa Leo’s plastic surgery).

Sarasota , Florida Plastic Surgeon  J. David Holcomb, MD has never treated Melissa Leo as a patient, but tells Makemeheal.com, “Does not appear to have had anything major done at this point and could certainly benefit from facial rejuvenation.  The photo provided is not optimum for treatment planning – really need a direct front photo with eyes forward and chin in appropriate position in which the patient is not smiling.  She probably would benefit at least an upper eyelid lift but the lower eyelid area might do very well with a laser procedure and fat grafting. She would also benefit from adding volume to the temples.  I would need to see different photos before commenting on the mid and lower face further.  Her neck really looks good for her age…”

In the past, Dr. Paul S. Nassif, a Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Rhinoplasty Specialist in Beverly Hills, California has told Makemeheal.com, ” “It looks as if Melissa Leo has had nothing done. But she could benefit from having full face surgery including a browlift, upper and lower eyelid lifts and a facelift.”

Miami plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Salzhauer says, “Melissa Leo has a very natural look.  She may use a little Botox to her forehead and fillers to her lips.  To freshen up her face she may want to tighten up the skin around her eyes and treat the lines between her eyes known as the glabellar, with Botox and dermal filler such as Restylane or Juvederm to smooth it out.”

Makemeheal.com applauds Melissa’s unconventional campaign for the Oscar win and looks forward to seeing how it pays off at the official ceremony February 27th.
