  • Britain’s Big Brother star Chantelle Houghton rose to stardom by getting plastic surgery to mimic her idol, Katie Price. But after a messy divorce, Chantelle says she needed therapy, not plastic surgery.

27-year old reality TV star, Chantelle Houghton who underwent drastic plastic surgery after breaking up with Ordinary Boys singer Preston, after just ten months of marriage, told her Big Brother housemates it would have been healthier to have therapy.

A tearful Chantelle said: “I didn’t get over what happened when we split up and I’m only just realising so now I’m in here.”

“I went and got my boobs done, face fillers and my lips done and I should have seen a therapist.”

“I just wanted to completely change myself and look like a completely different person.”

Makemeheal.com has heard of people fresh from a breakup making big purchases they later regret, and unfortunately plastic surgery sometimes falls into that category.

Miami plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Salzhauer says, “A divorce can be a very emotional and traumatic event in a person’s life.  It is important to acknowledge and treat any emotional issues before moving on to treating any physical ones. Many new divorcees do see plastic surgery as a way to creating their “new life” and “new beginning” and that’s with a new look.  Wanting to look their best because they are now single or because they just want to feel more attractive and confident are often reasons why new divorcees decide to undergo plastic surgery.  As long as the patient is mentally healthy, plastic surgery can be a great way to boost self image and self confidence.   This idea goes along with my favorite quote,’ We all have an image of ourselves in our mind.  Change that image, and you can change your life.’”

Dr. Paul S. Nassif, a Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Rhinoplasty Specialist in Beverly Hills, Calif., said, “Whether or not an individual decides to have a cosmetic procedure performed following a divorce is strictly up to them. It is not something that is uncommon.  However, plastic surgery is no replacement for therapy, as the two are completely different things and should be kept in separate categories.”

Chantelle has been overworked on before, with or without divorce. She originally got implants to follow in the footsteps of her idol Jordan and has since expressed regret over getting other cosmetic surgery procedures like lip fillers before(See Make Me Heal’s story on Chantelle’s plastic surgery).

Hopefully Chantelle will learn to consult with a therapist before rushing off to the plastic surgeon to have a procedure she may later regret.
