A few weeks Disney darling Demi Lovato was reported to be heading to rehab after coming down with the dreaded celebrity disease, exhaustion. More recently, it transpired that Demi’s stint in rehab began after she punched one of her backup dancers, Alex Welch, in the face. Now Ms. Welch is said to be seeking damages, as well as plastic surgery.
21-year old Alex Welch’s attorney says that 18-year old Demi’s hit was so hard that Alex is currently seeking the services of a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon.
While plastic surgery is commonly needed after a beating, photos of Alex seem to indicate that while she has quite the shiner, her injuries are not severe enough to require plastic surgery, emergency, or otherwise as their don’t look to be any broken bones.
Long Beach, CA plastic surgeon Dr. Marcel Daniels commented that based on the photo of the girl that Demi Lovato allegedly punched, it does not appear that there is either any open lacerations or obvious orbital damage.
Typically, people who have been punched will see a plastic surgeon such as Dr. Daniels if they have some kind of torn facial laceration or a broken eye socket that requires surgery. It is unusual to see a plastic surgeon for what appears to be a minor injury!
On his blog, plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn writes, ” I see a lot of facial injuries in the ER, and although Welch looks like she has a nice shiner, I don’t see (from the photos) evidence of any permanent damage like broken bones. I doubt a plastic surgeon has any work to do here except hold her hand and let her know that in two weeks she’ll look like nothing happened. That doesn’t mean she does not have a case against Lovato, who clearly needs to learn that she’s no Laila Ali. Hopefully rehab is doing her some good!”
“Photos don’t appear to show anything serious or permanent injury. No bones are likely broken and her injuries appear to be of the same magnitude as walking into a door at night,” celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Tony Youn, who does not treat Welch, told Pop Tarts. “Pain and emotional damage is different though and can’t be assessed by just photos. In two weeks she will look like nothing happened. It appears to be a person taking advantage of Demi’s fame to make a quick buck and get five minutes of fame.”
Miami plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Salzhauer says, “Well Demi must have some right hook to leave a shiner like that. If the victim’s nose was fractured from the blow to her face then perhaps she may need that repaired by a plastic surgeon that specializes in nasal surgeries. Aesthetically, it just looks like she needs some concealer makeup.”
Makemeheal.com wishes both the troubled Demi and the injured Alex a speedy recovery.
