British tabloids are reporting that after admitting to being insecure about her looks, Olympian turned I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! reality television star Rebecca Adlington has had a secret nose job.
In an interview with The Times, Adlington admitted to not being happy with her own appearance and how hard she finds it to brush off the comments of online critics.
Adlington said: “Every day I look in the mirror and go, ‘God, I’m not pretty’.
“I’ve got a very big nose. That’s what most of the negative comments on Twitter are about – my nose. People say, ‘Oh God you look like a dolphin’, or ‘I didn’t realize they let whales into the Olympics, but at least you should be able to swim faster with a nose like that’.”
“I’ve always known I’m not particularly attractive. I don’t have high cheekbones and I’ve got big fishy lips. I don’t have a womanly figure — people say I’m butch . . . manly.”
According to the British tabloid The Mirror, Rebecca has decided to do something about her insecurities about her appearance, by undergoing a “secret” nose job at a plastic surgery clinic.
The 25-year old retired swimmer reportedly has undergone nose surgery to reduce the size of her nose and have a bump removed. It seems that Rebecca has been considering a nose job for years, but has only found time to go under the knife in retirement, as her career as a swimmer didn’t allow for enough time off for plastic surgery recovery.
In the interview, Rebecca reveals, “”But I couldn’t float the idea of having a nose job before, because with swimming you only get two weeks off a year.”
“Would I have it done now?
“I’d probably have it straightened. But it’s really got to suit your face.”
According to the tabloids, Rebecca has gone under the knife, although her official representatives apparently have yet to confirm or deny the reports.
Rebecca has said that the negative comments about her looks were the hardest part about winning the Olympic gold.
“It was the hardest thing to get used to, I thought: ‘Why do people judge me for the way I look?’
“It’s not as if I was trying to be a model.”
“I always had a bit of an insecurity about the way I looked growing up. I knew that I wasn’t the most attractive girl at school.”
“Even when I’d been on a night out, no boys would want to talk to me. So those comments hurt.”
Rebecca has been so affected by taunts and negativity about her looks that after she won two gold medals and was asked if she would now be a pin-up for British swimming, her response was a self-deprecating, “With my nose and these shoulders?”
And Rebecca is well aware of the imbalance in comments on appearances between males and females.
“It’s hard for a woman. A woman has to deal with it – and that’s never easy.”
“A guy doesn’t get comments on his weight or his looks.”
Another motivation for a possible nose job could be that Rebecca is said to marrying swimmer Harry Needs this summer.none
