In his latest wave of news outside of trying to restore his restaurant business empire, celebrity angry chef Gordon Ramsay is rumored to have undergone hair restoration.
44-year Gordon Ramsay has been at the center of British tabloids, thanks to a very public fight with his father-in-law, the former CEO of his company. Add to that the chef has been losing his hold on some of his restaurants, having them close and also recently is said to be losing a Michelin star at one of his best know UK restaurants.
Recently, Gordon seems to be going on a plastic surgery spree. After first undergoing Botox injections a few years back (See Make Me Heal’s story on Gordon Ramsay’s Botox injections), Gordon has since gotten dental veneers. More recently, the Daily Mail reports that he spent over $45,000 on a hair transplant in a Los Angeles-area hair restoration clinic.
Miami plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Salzhauer says, “It does appear from his bandages that Gordon Ramsay probably did have a hair transplant procedure. Most commonly, thin rows of hair are excised from the back lower hairline and then transplanted usually to the front hairline.”
Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Toby Mayer, commented that based on the photos, it appears from the bandages on Gordon Ramsays head that he may have had a hair grafting surgery. He noted this is not a new procedure and hair grafting has been in use for at least 15- 20 years.
Dr. Mayer also noted that grafted hair has a different texture, the grafted follicles become more kinky and the overall coverage is not as dense unlike the Fleming Mayer Hair Flap which has the immediate result of next day natural coverage and superior hair density.
Hair grafting takes at least six months to establish, during which the transplanted hair falls out before it regrows.
Dr. Paul S. Nassif, a Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Rhinoplasty Specialist in Beverly Hills, California says, “Hair Transplants are a great procedure for thinning hair when performed properly by a highly skilled surgeon. New growth is typically seen 16 weeks after a hair transplant, and patients are generally very satisfied with the results.”
Gordon is said to have undergone “follicular unit extraction” at the Alvi Armani center in Beverly Hills. The 12-hour procedure uses only local anesthetic to relocate hair from the back of the head to places where it is thinning or receding. Benefits are that the procedure requires no stitches and leaves no scars.
Given Gordon’s sudden new interest in plastic surgery, some suspect a facelift is next for the deeply wrinkled chef, who undergoes several Botox injections round each year.
