  • According to actress Helen Mirren, plastic surgery is well and good for people over the hill. However, the British beauty doesn’t believe that “young people” should go under the knife.

ContactMuxic reports that 66-year old Oscar-winner Helen Mirren told InStyle magazine, “The only thing I don’t like on young people is plastic surgery.” The ‘State of Play’ actress had previously defended the right to have cosmetic surgery, saying she understood why people change their appearance. “You go, I don’t want to look at that face anymore and I understand completely, I think people should be allowed to do whatever they want to make themselves feel happy.” adding that she doesn’t understand why younger women would want to ruin the “purity” of the bodies.

Plastic surgery and the understanding of what plastic surgery recovery entails is a mature decision to make, but maturity is not necessarily age related. To undergo plastic surgery, each individual must make their own decision.

Dr. David Shafer, celebrity plastic surgeon in New York City says, “People should have plastic surgery when they are ready for it.  For some, that may mean in their 20s and on the other extreme it may mean their 70s.  People have plastic surgery for different reasons and it is a personal decision.”

On his blog, plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn writes, ” Helen Mirren is 66 and looks fabulous.  She has SO had a facelift!  It is extremely unusual for a woman her age to have a jawline as tight as she does.  That’s the sign of a great facelift.”

Miami plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Salzhauer says, “ I believe that young people actually benefit the most from plastic surgery.  Imagine having your peak self confidence as a young adult combined with the energy and drive most people have in their younger years.  Plus, the benefits of plastic surgery last a lifetime physically.  Once you have a Rhinoplasty, you will have a beautiful nose for the rest of your life (as long as you don’t injure it).”

Helen Mirren looks great while she gives off the cuff remarks to the press, so clearly plastic surgery is working for her (See Make Me Heal’s story on Helen Mirren’s plastic surgery).
