  • Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas appear to amongst the latest Hollywood couples to call it quits. Shortly after announcing their pending divorce, Melanie hit the red carpet with a makeup smudge to cover up her famous Antonio tattoo, which features the actor’s name in a heart.

56-year-old Working Girl actress Melanie Griffith split from husband of 18 years, 53-year old Antonio Banderas.

At the time of the split back in June, the couple said in a statement, “We have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalize our almost twenty years marriage in a loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other, our family and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together.”

However it seems that Melanie is already moving on as she hit the red carpet for the Taormina Film Fest in Italy, covering up her famous arm tattoo. The tattoo features a heart surrounding Antonio’s name and it looked as though the actress used some type of cover up to conceal the name, but didn’t bother with the surrounding heart.

While the split is still new enough to be handled using temporary means, Melanie choosing to bare her arm and conceal the name rather than just simply sporting sleeves seems to send a clear message: the marriage is definitely over. Which means that Melanie will likely be seeking out a more permanent removal solution, likely via lasers.

Tattoo removal is typically done with laser removal or chemical peels, both of which take multiple treatments to remove ink.

Many stars find a need for laser tattoo removal, usually when a relationship comes to an end—or they find another solution. Johnny Depp famously changed his Wynonna tattoo to read wino after her broke up with actress Wynonna Ryder back in the day.

After her divorce from Seal, Heidi Klum removed the singer’s name from her arm. When she had it done in 2008, she proudly told YoungHollywood.com, “The tattoo artist made the ink exactly in the color of my husband. He mixed the color for us, he tried it on [Seal's skin], and then he put it on my arm. And then I have three stars with the first initials of our children.”

More recently, despite opening their Mr. & Mrs. tour with private video of their wedding, Beyonce Knowles was rumored to be removing her homage to hubby Jay-Z.

“To the public, Beyonce and Jay Z appear to have it all. But behind close doors, they’re not as happy as people think they are,” a source close to the hip hop artist told Radar.

“Jay’s been telling his friends that Beyonce is getting her ring tattoo removed, the one they got when they were married. He just sorta shrugs it off though saying ‘Nothing is forever.’”

Still other stars simply grow out of their tattoos and decide to have them removed in order to move on. Kelly Osbourne and Megan Fox have both had tattoos removed that they first had done in their youth and later didn’t want.
