  • “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” premiered last night at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood to rave reviews. But chances are that most fans did not notice some other sort of magic brewing off the screen. J.K. Rowling, the 41-year old author of the famed Harry Potter fantasy series, is magically looking younger and younger with each passing year since she rose to fame. Is she under a plastic surgery spell?

JK Rowling, Plastic Surgery, Harry Potter

J.K. Rowling has had the unlikely fairytale fate of looking better today than a decade ago when she rose to prominence with the first book of the Harry Potter series. Photos of Rowling from 2000 to 2007 show that she is looking 5-10 years younger than her age and miraculously looking better at 41 than when she was 34. Whereas between 2000 and 2002, Rowling had the beginnings of heaviness around the lids, undereye dark circles, puffiness and a slight tired look around her eyes, in 2007 her eyes look more refreshed and more open than before. Gone are also the undereye bags and “crepey” skin below her eyes. This change is the likely result of an eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) that has given her a more youthful look, as well as dermal filler injections that have helped plump up the skin and fill in wrinkles in the eye area. Similarly, Rowling’s skin was quite dull and had blemishes in 2000, but over the years her skin has become more vibrant, radiant, and even toned. This is likely the result of laser skin procedures such as laser skin resurfacing or dermabrasion, as well as regular skin peels that help younger skin layers to emerge from under damaged skin. Additionally, these skin treatments can also help remove blemishes and create a more even skin tone. Moreover, some noticeable wrinkles which began to be apparent on JK Rowling’s face in her mid thirties are now gone, and in particular her nasolabial folds (laugh lines that stretch from the corner of the nose to the sides of the mouth) have become softer and less deep than before. Additionally, J.K. Rowling does not seem to have any lines or wrinkles that would normally be typical of someone in their early forties, which is likely due to her having Botox, Juvederm, or Restylane injections on her forehead, around her eyes, and laugh lines around her mouth. Finally, while it cannot be confirmed from the pictures, Rowling’s nose seems to be better proportioned and angled relative to what seems to be a wider and more crooked nose in her old days, which hints at the possibility of a nose job. The nose reshaping procedure, however, is only a guess at best and requires better photos to validate the rumor.

Finally, Rowling’s youthful look has clearly benefited from having makeup artists and stylists at her disposal for her public appearance and her face is also radiating with happiness from having achieved success and love in her newfound life with husband Neil Murray and her two new children.

With a net worth estimated at over $1 billion, there is nothing wrong with J.K. Rowling splurging a little on plastic surgery to improve her look, which has benefited tremendously from her visits to the plastic surgeon. Having struggled for years as a single mother, she certainly deserves any cosmetic surgery that she decides to spoil herself with. The cosmetic work is subtle and extremely well done and Rowling is looking downright magical. J. K. Rowling’s life is an inspiration on all levels.
