Victoria’s Secret models are supposed to be the most perfect creatures to walk the catwalk. But newcomer Karolina Kurkova is lacking something all the others have: a bellybutton. Is plastic surgery the cause of her lack of a belly button?
Apparently, fashion magazines actually airbrush a belly button in for the 24-year old beauty because it is so distracting to see a flat stomach without the navel. Learning of the unusual situation, Make Me Heal ponders the causes of not having a bellybutton.
While it is most likely that the Czech-born model’s lack of a navel is due to an abdominal operation in infancy, given supermodels’ penchants for plastic surgery, including Heidi Klum, there could be other explanations. (See Make Me Heal’s story on supermodel Heidi Klum’s plastic surgery).
Actress Patricia Heaton has openly admitted to losing her belly button to a tummy tuck (See Make Me Heal’s story on Patricia Heaton’s plastic surgery)and this could be the case for Karolina as well, although she would be young to have had a tummy tuck, which is usually done after pregnancy or a large weight loss to get rid of excess skin. As she has been modeling since the age of 15 and in the public eye since the beginning of the millennium, it may be the result of a liposuction procedure Karolina may have had to combat possible weight gain that often occurs in the early 20′s, even for people who were overly thin as teenagers.
Although as plastic surgeon Dr. John Di Saia says, “It is far more likely that she had a problem at childbirth.”
Karolina’s lack of a navel is especially noticeable when she posed with other models in matching string bikinis, as she did recently on beach in Miami.
Karolina’s agent explains, “Her belly button is very smooth. But I can assure you she’s not an alien!”
A rep for Karolina has said she does not have a belly button, due to an abdominal operation as an infant.
Although it would be hard to tell for sure how Karolina ended up with no bellybutton, supermodels often undergo breast augmentations and nose jobs to appear as perfect as possible when they strut down the runway in next to nothing.
Plastic surgeon Dr. Alexander Rivkin isn’t an expert on bodywork, but he does say, “I don’t do body stuff, so I don’t know about Karolina – although that certainly does not look like what she was born with.”
The good news is that if Karolina or photographers ever get tired of photoshopping belly buttons onto her abdominal region, she can undergo a revision umbilicoplasty – neoumbilicoplasty or belly button repair surgery to get her navel back.
Obviously, the missing bellybutton hasn’t held back her skill at looking good, as she was recently voted the Most Beautiful Woman in the World, beating out actress Angelina Jolie for the honor (See Make Me Heal’s story on Angelina Jolie’s plastic surgery).
Despite Karolinas missing navel, Make Me Heal looks forward to seeing more of Karolina as her popularity continues.
