  • British newscaster Kay Burley is no stranger to plastic surgery. But apparently she didn’t realize the severe bruising that can result after a facelift, despite a minimal amount of pain.

50-year old Kay Burley splurged on a necklift and lower facelift earlier this year, and while pleased with the results, was shocked by how she looked immediately following surgery.

According to the Daily Mail, Kay didn’t have a painful plastic surgery recovery, however she was surprised by how bruised and battered she appeared to herself in the mirror, comparing the results to being in a car wreck.

“It’s a deeply traumatic procedure,” she said.

“It’s not painful at all, but when you look at yourself in the mirror, you think, ‘I’m never going to be me again’.”

Miami plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Salzhauer says, “A facelift recovery often looks worse than it feels.  Because the face is so vascular, there usually is a significant amount of bruising and swelling the first few weeks of recovery.  However, there really is very little pain associated with a facelift.”

Despite her initial shock, Kay has said that her new look was money well spent. After turning 40, Kay underwent a blepharoplasty and has said that she isn’t done with plastic surgery yet.
