  • Funny woman Joan Rivers passed away earlier this week after being placed into a medically induced coma after suffering complications during a routine throat surgery. After the sad news was revealed, her fans and friends were quick to Tweet their shows of support, including her E! family and Fashion Police co-star, Kelly Osbourne.

After the news that 81-year old Joan Rives had passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones, fashion forward Kelly Osbourne took to Facebook to share her feelings.

Via The Daily Mail, Kelly wrote, “I’m completely heartbroken by the loss of my beloved Joan. Not only was she my boss, she was and will always be my teacher, therapist, closest friend, inspiration and the only grandmother I ever knew. She was family and I will never forget her.”

“Laughter will be difficult for a while but when I’m sad, lonely or upset all I will have to do is think of Joan and a smile will cross my face. Laughter is what she gave us and laughter is what she would want us to do in remembrance of her.”

29-year old Kelly is reportedly currently enjoying a hospital stay of her own, courtesy of pneumonia then reached out to Joan’s family, saying, “Melissa and Cooper, my thoughts are with you and I love you both so much. Joan, thank you for taking me in and loving me as a daughter. I will miss you deeply and will always hear your voice in my head saying ‘my darling get out there and be you!”

Other stars also took time to Tweet their love for Joan, including the proud to be natural and nude outspoken Lena Dunham.

After hearing of Joan’s passing, prolific Twitter user Lena took the opportunity to share her thoughts on social media.

“Watching Joan Rivers do standup at age 81 was incredible: athletic, jaw-dropping, terrifying, essential. It never stopped. Neither will she. I told Maron I’d have a zinger when Joan died. But I didn’t think she ever would. She felt eternal, and anyway, zingers are her territory.”

“That being said, Joan is gone but a piece of her lives on: her nose, because it is made of polyurethane.”

Lena’s efforts are humor, but Joan herself said it best when she used her famous self-deprecating humor to say, “I’ve had so much plastic surgery, when I die they will donate my body to Tupperware.”

Over the years, Joan became as well known for her plastic surgery as for her caustic wit, undergoing numerous procedures including numerous facelifts, a brow lift, cheek lift, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), Botox injections, laser skin resurfacing, chemical peels, and breast augmentation, in addition to other procedures.

And while many tried, Joan always got the last laugh when it came to her own looks, capitalizing on her love of plastic surgery in her comedic routines and even writing a book advising others about the ups and downs of various plastic surgery procedures and recovery.

Joan made her mark on the world and will be missed greatly.
