  • Matisse’s song “Better Than Her” is #1 on the dance Billboard charts, but plastic surgery is much lower down on her list.

24-year old platinum blond singer Matisse used to be the face of John Frieda, with her twin sister Alex Smith. Nowadays, Brit Smith is better known as Matisse, a chart topping dance pop artist who sees herself as an icon for young girls.

Matisse feels that plastic surgery sets a bad example for young girls, although she isn’t entirely against it.

“I want to be empowering for girls … my song ‘Better Than Her’ is about taking what you want in life and not being afraid someone could do something better than you,” she tells HollywoodLife.com, “As for plastic surgery, if something is really bothering you that makes you so unhappy, then I guess go ahead and do it, but Botox in your twenties seems insane!”

Dr. Paul S. Nassif, a Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Rhinoplasty Specialist in Beverly Hills, Calif., said, “Whether or not a young icon would like to have any plastic surgery performed is strictly up to them.  These individuals often find themselves under pressure to look their best, as they are always in the spotlight and under public scrutiny.  This does not necessarily set a bad example, as everyone is different and entitled to do what may make them feel better inside.”

Miami plastic surgeon Dr Michael Salzhauer says, “

I don’t see anything wrong with any mature person who wants to look and feel better about themselves who decides to use plastic surgery as a tool to achieve that.  As long as they understand the risks, they are healthy and choose to have surgery for themselves, plastic surgery is a great and safe way to boost self confidence and enhance a person’s life.”

Interestingly enough, Matisse says Beyonce is her role model, someone Makemeheal.com suspects has had a plastic surgery procedure or two (See Make Me Heal’s story on Beyonce’s plastic surgery).

It’s nice to see a young pop star with her act together, but Make Me Heal hopes she reconsiders her position on plastic surgery.

Being a private personal trainer to Matisse is always fun, considering the fact that I train practically her entire family. Since Matisse has become a Pop Singer/Icon to the Music Industry I don’t see much of her these days, but she does make it her business to stay in tip-top shape for her entertainment demands. She is by all means an “extremely talented” and highly driven individual, and deserves to make it to the very top over those who are the best in the business. “Lady Gaga, Matisse is right behind you”.
