  • Miguel Torres is a mixed martial arts fighter, so cuts and bruises are part of the job. But after a particularly nasty cut, it seems Miguel has opted for plastic surgery to repair the damage.

29-year old Miguel Torres received the cut on March 6th at the “WEC 47: Bowles vs. Cruz” event against Joseph Benavide. Since then, MMA News has reported on Miguel’s taking care of the cut, even recording his repair surgery and posting pictures on the web.

While many have reported that Miguel is having plastic surgery to repair the wound, it seems that it may not be a plastic surgeon doing the work, and as a result, the fighter may be left with a scar.

OcBody plastic surgeon Dr John Di Saia says, ” That was not closed by a plastic surgeon and will leave a scar…maybe a nasty one. Of course he might not care.”

Paul S. Nassif, a Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Rhinoplasty Specialist in Beverly Hills, California says, ”In regards to Miguel Torres’ plastic surgery for the cut on his forehead, the surgery was performed by a plastic surgeon in order to minimize scarring and obtain the best outcome possible. This is not a special plastic surgery, other than that it is a precise wound closure which sometimes may be performed by sealing the wound in different layers. This may involve placement of deep sutures subcutaneously or in the deepest layer of disrupted tissue. But in some situations, a single-layer closure will suffice.  Whether or not a procedure like this is common depends on the fighter choosing to have a plastic surgeon perform the work. There will be a scar, but if the procedure is performed properly by a highly skilled surgeon, the goal is for the scar to be minimally visible.”

Miami plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Salzhauer says, “Miguel will certainly have a reminder of this fight for a long time.  Because he had a plastic surgeon repair his wound he has an excellent chance of it healing very well and he should be left with a minimal scar. Plastic surgeons are trained in reconstructive techniques as well to repair such things as facial lacerations like this.  With the use of a scar minimizing product such as Cimeosil and protection from the sun, in year it should hardly be visible.”

Makemeheal.com wishes Miguel a speedy recovery and recommends he looks into scar revision surgery if he doesn’t wish to mar his appearance overmuch.

Such cuts and bruises are the part of his job which he had opted as his career. Even it would not look good if he looks or comes with those dirty looks of cuts in front of the audience. So he needs to go for the surgery and would like to see his new face soon.

Terrible cut, being a fighter is definitely not the healthiest job sometimes.
