The much anticipated Tom Ford December/January edition of Vogue Paris is finally out, with model Crystal Renn providing an exaggerated look at plastic surgery.
24-year old Crystal Renn has unusual body size for a traditional model, but she’s not always classified as a plus-size model either, making her the perfect model to use on a piece on plastic surgery.
Fashion designer turned director Tom Ford took over Vogue Paris and used Crystal for a series of photographs that showed plastic surgery. In the spread, Crystal is wrapped in bandages or depicted with larger than life features.
In the photos, Crystal wears facial prosthetics, giving her the appearance of having a trout pout, over pronounced cheek bones and very pulled eyes, achieved through photoshopping and clever makeup application.
While Crystal is clearly portraying an extreme view of plastic surgery, often found on reality shows, in real life, plastic surgery is most often done subtly, to enhance natural beauty.
Dr. Paul S. Nassif, a Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Rhinoplasty Specialist in Beverly Hills, California says, “Crystal Renn’s prosthetics are an over-exaggerated portrayal of how plastic surgery may be the stand out feature of a given individual. When performed properly by a highly skilled facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, and procedures to the face may be performed subtly, and only enhance one’s own natural look. ”
Miami plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Salzhauer says, “I think this is what people may think of when they think of “bad plastic surgery”. I think most people view plastic surgery differently these days. The days of Pamela Anderson sized breasts and Joann River’s overdone look are over and people are getting plastic surgery to improve their appearance, but want to look as natural as possible.”
Whatever category she is in, Crystal is a great model and needs no plastic surgery to enhance her body.
