  • At this point in her life, it seems that Naomi Watts has it all: a thriving career (despite the backlash over the Diana biopic), two kids and a long-time partner (actor Live Shreiber). However, apparently the pretty blonde is still subject to the insecurities many women face, especially after moving to Los Angeles.

45-year old Naomi Watts tells Town & Country magazine that since moving her family to Los Angeles, she’s felt insecure about everything from her looks to her talents and occasionally considers plastic surgery to make her feel more comfortable going on the auditions she dreads.

“I’m really just feeling my way. This being an industry town, that self-consciousness just pervades,” she told Town and Country magazine. “There are days when I feel victorious that I have, you know, gotten this far [without plastic surgery]. But there are a million days when I look in the mirror and think, ‘I’m going to do it.’”

In previous interviews, Naomi has also been uncertain about her stance on even non-invasive procedures like Botox. Before moving to Hollywood, Naomi told Australia’s Good Health Magazine that she doesn’t like the idea of freezing her face, but won’t say that she would never try the popular injectable.

“Never say never—and I certainly don’t judge anyone who does it. But most of the characters I play are going through some kind of emotional turmoil, so my job requires me to have expression. If my face was froze, what right do I have to play that part? All the women who haven’t anything to their faces are still able to play great roles. And some of the ones who have done something have messed it up—they look freakish. Anyway, for me it’s about playing women with rich lives—and the longer the life, the deeper the wrinkles.”

Much of Botox’s bad rap seems to be in the application process. Many people seem to go overboard on it because you are sometimes charged per vial. Those that want more natural results may have to pay more, but use less. Actress Robin Wright revealed that she uses only a tiny bit of Botox, which is likely why she looks great for her age but still has a few wrinkles across her brow and is able to crinkle her face.

Naomi is due to appear in the next installment in the Divergent series and says that living in Hollywood has brought out other fears as well.

“I hate being put in a position where I’m being tested,” she said. “If I feel safe, I can be me, but if I don’t feel safe, I try to please.”

However the Oscar nominee now knows to rely more on her instincts and practice self-acceptance when the going gets rough.

“I didn’t trust that me was what people wanted,” she said. “If only I’d known back then, over those 10 years of trying to prove myself, what I know now, which is just be you.”
