Awards season is officially upon us, with the Golden Globes past and the Oscars in the near future. The nominations have been announced and that means that the stars are getting ready to look their best for their big night on the red carpet. Here’s a look at what procedures they may be having or have had, as they prep to accept the gold.
Christian Bale, American Hustle
Christian Bale is notoriously dedicated to his craft, altering his body as fits the role, whether it is working out to excess to play The Dark Knight or losing weight. For his Oscar nominated role in American Hustle, Christian packed on the pounds to play a middle aged con man and sported a lot of heavy makeup. While he may have had a rhinoplasty in the past, or need a nose job in the future, for the big night some chemical peels may eradicate some of the damaged done to his skin by wearing heavy makeup and glued on prosthetic pieces. Incidentally, American Hustle seems to be an Academy favorite, tying with Gravity for most nominations at 10 each.
Chiwetel Ejiofor, 12 Years a Slave
Chiwetel Ejiofor gave an outstanding performance in the heart-rending drama 12 Years a Slave, but plastic surgery doesn’t look to be part of his story. For the Oscars, Chiwetel will likely be clean shaven rather than sporting his sometimes scruffy beard, unless he is prepping for his next role.
Matthew McConaughey, Dallas Buyers Club
Matthew McConaughey famously dropped a lot of weight to play the AIDS victim star in Dallas Buyers Club. While it transformed his appearance to becoming nearly unrecognizable, he has started to gain it back and his face is filling in to look healthy again. He could use fillers to expedite the process, but it seems unlikely as the usually shirtless star has a rugged and natural appearance much of the time. The only plastic surgery he appears to have had is a hair transplant a few years back to combat his hair loss. The results were good as his hairline was filled in with a very natural look.
Bruce Dern, Nebraska
Bruce Dern has been around Hollywood for decades, usually playing nefarious characters. His acting abilities have finally been recognized at the ripe old age of 77. Often playing cagey types means that Bruce has become well known for his wild hair and craggy appearance, so it seems highly unlikely that he would change his appearance with plastic surgery at this stage of the game.
Leonardo DiCaprio, The Wolf of Wall Street
Leonardo DiCaprio took home the Golden Globe, which could be an indication of his success at the upcoming Academy Awards. Although he is getting close to 40, Leonardo still has boyish looks, thanks in part to his recent weight gain, which filled out his cheeks to look like “baby fat.” If he wanted to look even younger, he could consider some Botox to take care of the lines in his forehead and the deep crevice between his brows.
