Remember The Swan? That controversial plastic surgery makeover show that purported to transform “ugly ducklings” into beautiful “swans” by giving winners of the show complete plastic surgery makeovers. While the show may have had good intentions, they apparently didn’t work out so well for one contestant. Lorrie Arias blames the show for ruining her life and forcing her into hiding.
RadarOnline via the New York Post reveals that since the show, Lorrie now suffers from bipolar disorder, lupus, depression and has become a prisoner to her home.
The 42-year old contestant of the 2005 reality show says that as result of a lack of follow up treatment to the $300,000 plastic surgery procedures she underwent, she now has major issues.
“I am agoraphobic, on meds and unable to enjoy life,” Lorrie explains, mainly because the show’s therapist dropped the ball on her follow up after the procedures.
“I had the most surgeries of any Swan in the history of the show and it has all gone to absolute sh-t,” she continues.
“I am a 300-pound mess of a person who is afraid to go outside.”
In light of Lorrie’s situation, The Post also spoke with other former contestants, most of which are either widowed or divorced.
“Some of the girls have had problems with their surgeries, and I would have thought [the producers] would have helped a little more with that, but what can you expect from them? Reality shows aren’t there to guide you for the rest of your life,” Rachel Love, the winner of Season 1, explains, calling several women on the show “crybabies.”
Lorrie isn’t the only lady who has blamed her former appearance on the show for her current issues. Former contestant Tawnya Cooke wrote a tell-all “The Swan Diaries: Dirt Behind The Scenes of Reality TV” about the show to air the grievances of former contestants and other contestants initially planned to tell the media about their problems.
However, “You can’t keep blaming some particular event for the rest of your life,” she says.
The Swan, which was labeled “the most sadistic reality series of the decade” is set to make a return with a 2 hour special featuring celebrities wanting to go under the knife for a transformative experience. Fox has yet to reveal when the show will air or who will be a part of it. Rumored cast members are said to be White House intern Monica Lewinsky and Happy Days star Erin Moran.
Rumors of The Swan making a reappearance on TV have been ongoing since last year, with the official release stating, “Celebrity Swan will feature female celebrities and will offer these popular women the incredible opportunity to undergo physical, psychological and career changes as cameras follow them through the transformative process. This opportunity will allow these women to come back better than ever, have a second chance at personal and career redemption and re-introduce themselves to their supportive fans in a whole new way.”none
