Sharon Osbourne has had cancer before and apparently she wasn’t taking any chances this time around, as she has had a double mastectomy after being diagnosed with the gene that increases the risk of breast cancer.
60-year old Sharon Osbourne recently revealed her decision to undergo a double mastectomy after doctors found she had gene that gives her a high risk of developing breast cancer.
“As soon as I found out I had the breast cancer gene, I thought: “The odds are not in my favour.”
“I’ve had cancer before and I didn’t want to live under that cloud: I decided to just take everything off, and had a double mastectomy.”
“For me, it wasn’t a big decision, it was a no-brainer. I didn’t want to live the rest of my life with that shadow hanging over me.”
“I want to be around for a long time and be a grandmother to Pearl. I didn’t even think of my breasts in a nostalgic way, I just wanted to be able to live my life without that fear all the time.”
The operation takes over 12 hours and requires several weeks to recover from, including wearing post mastectomy bras to help the process.
The interview also included details about Sharon’s former massive breast implants and her decision to stay away from plastic surgery in the future (See Make Me Heal”s story on Sharon Osbourne’s plastic surgery).
“Sometimes I’ll see a photo and I’ll think, “My face looks plastic”; it can look so unnatural from certain angles. Now I am definitely, definitely done. You can’t buy your youth back, no matter how much money you’ve got. I won’t be going under the knife again.”
Makemeheal.com wishes Sharon a speedy recovery.
