Dr. Anthony Youn Reveals Celebrity Secrets

Posted on January 29th, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Plastic Surgeon Articles & Interviews by Makemeheal.com Staff

Dr. Anthony Youn, Plastic SurgeonPlastic surgeon Anthony Youn has a keen eye for figuring out what plastic surgeries different celebrities had done. A series regular on Dr. 90210, Dr. Youn’s expert opinions on celebrity plastic surgery are often quoted in national magazines, including In Touch Weekly, US Weekly, Life & Style, The National Enquirer, and others. We caught up with Dr. Youn and gabbed about everyone from Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston, and Catherine Zeta Jones, to Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise, Paris Hilton, Hilary Swank, Barbara Walters, and other stars. With Dr. Youn, you’re always in for some surprises.

MMH: What is your main specialty in your practice?

Dr. Youn: Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. I also perform a small amount of reconstructive plastic surgery.

MMH: What are the main innovations that you see in the techniques and procedures that you specialize in?

Dr. Youn: The top plastic surgeons are always trying to get better, more natural results with less downtime and less scarring. In many cases we can rejuvenate the entire face with all hidden or invisible scars using techniques like endoscopic browlifts, transconjunctival blepharoplasty, and facial fat grafting.

MMH: One of the hottest rumors making way is whether or not Jennifer Anniston had a breast augmentation. Recent photos of her at the People’s Choice Awards on January 9, 2007 revealed a more buxom looking version of Jen. What do you think about this rumor and can you speculate about any previous rumors that she had a rhinoplasty or chin augmentation?

Dr. Youn: I have seen no evidence that Jennifer Aniston has had a breast augmentation. It is simply amazing what push-up bras can do these days. It does appear that she has had a rhinoplasty in the past, before her time as a star on “Friends.” There doesn’t appear to be any evidence that she’s had a chin augmentation, however. There is a very recent report in US Magazine that Jennifer had a rhinoplasty performed in Beverly Hills on January 20th of this year. My blog: www.celebritysurgeryblog.com, has a post on this.

MMH: What do you think about Nicole Kidman’s look? What procedures did she have done?

Dr. Youn: Nicole Kidman has undergone some minor changes over the years. Foremost among this is that she appears to show the classic “Botox brow.” Her eyebrows have become more arched with time, almost giving her an angry look. This could be the result of Botox injections to decrease the wrinkles in the forehead.

MMH: Speaking of Nicole, what do you think Tom Cruise had done in recently besides his well-publicized nose job years ago and braces for his teeth?

Dr. Youn: I don’t think that Tom Cruise has had plastic surgery, although like most metrosexuals I expect that he grooms himself well, takes good care of his skin, and may have had some minor chemical peels and laser treatments. He appears to be aging very gracefully.

MMH: Do you think his wife Katie Holmes had anything done yet?

Dr. Youn: Recent photos reveal that Katie may have had a rhinoplasty sometime at the beginning of this year or the end of last year. I was interviewed by the National Enquirer about this recently, and these photos are scheduled to be printed in an upcoming issue.

MMH: Do you think Britney Spears had a tummy tuck? If she didn’t have a tummy tuck, do you think she would benefit from one? Is it safe to say that Britney Spears had a boob job? Is there anything else that you speculate she had done?

Dr. Youn: The belief that Britney Spears had a tummy tuck at the same time of her C-Section is ludricrous. The best time for a tummy tuck is at least 6 months after the birth of a child, since it is important to let the uterus contract down in size (as well as the tummy) to allow as much extra skin as possible to be removed. I have never seen any plastic surgeon perform an abdominoplasty on a patient at the same time they gave birth. In addition, the infamous upskirt photos that have popped up all over the internet show what appears to be a C-section scar and nothing more.

There is a possibility that she may have had breast augmentation back in 1999 or 2000. Her bust size appears to have changed a lot over the years, but this may be mostly due to having two children and the breast changes that go along with that. Millions of women around the world can attest to this!

MMH: Name actress(es) that you think have the best breast jobs in Hollywood?

Dr. Youn: Scarlett Johanssen was recently voted “best breasts” in a poll by In Touch magazine. It’s difficult to determine if she has implants, but I doubt it. Second in the poll was Jessica Simpson, and third was Salma Hayek. All appear to be naturally well-endowed.

MMH: What actress(es) do you think had poor breast augmentations?

Dr. Youn: A lot of the adult film actresses have had breast augmentations where the implants don’t match their body frame. Unfortunately, implants that are too large can lead to complications including ‘bottoming out.’ The bigger the implants, the more unnatural they can often look.

MMH: What actor(s) do you think had great facelifts and what actor(s) do you think had poor facelifts?

Dr. Youn: I think Barbara Walters looks very good. She is in her 70s but looks like she’s in her 50s. It’s not the most drastic of results, but looks very natural. Most people probably have never realized that she may have had a facelift!

It is very important to address volume changes that occur as a face ages. This was something that I learned from my mentor, Dr. Richard Ellenbogen. Facelifts which do not address lost volume can make a person look tight, pulled, or done. An example of this is Joan Rivers. Addition of volume to her face using fat grafting can make her look softer, fuller, and more natural.

MMH: Do you think there is any truth to the rumor that Catherine Zeta Jones had a breast augmentation recently? What else do you think did she have done?

Dr. Youn: The photos of Catherine Zeta Jones do appear to show a possible breast augmentation. Her weight has fluctuated, however, and these changes in weight can fool people. I do not think she has had any other plastic surgery done. She is aging very well.

MMH: What’s real about Paris Hilton and what’s fake (besides her brain)?

Dr. Youn: Some people think Paris has had a breast augmentation. It seems that every time she wears a push-up bra some website is proclaiming that she’s had implants placed. There are no obvious signs of plastic surgery to me, although there are rumors that she may have had some corrective eyelid surgery. It’s difficult to tell, however. While some have issues with how she carries herself, she is a naturally pretty woman.

MMH: Is there any truth to the rumor that Hilary Swank had a breast augmentation?

Dr. Youn: The photos that I’ve seen do appear to show a breast augmentation in the recent past.

MMH: Do you think Angelina Jolie had a nose job? What about any other procedures?

Dr. Youn: The photos that I have seen make me believe that she has had a rhinoplasty quite some time ago. Her nose looks great. Her lips appear to be naturally full, to the chagrin of millions of women around the country. She may get some injections to them to aid in plumping them up, but there are no obvious signs of this.

MMH: Do you think Harrison Ford, Jack Nicholson, and Robert De Niro had any work done? If so what do you think they did?

Dr. Youn: I see no sign that any of these three classic actors have had plastic surgery. They appear to be aging gracefully. Like many, I am eagerly awaiting Indiana Jones 4.

MMH: Do you think actresses such as Julianne Moore, Selma Ward, and Rene Russo are aging naturally and managing to stay beautiful with no cosmetic intervention? If any have had any work done, please specify about each actress.

Dr. Youn: These actresses, like the actors above, appear to be aging gracefully and without plastic surgery. I would assume that they are taking care of their skin and using the right products and creams, but I doubt that plastic surgery is a significant part of their anti-aging regimen.

MMH: What do you think of Tara Reid’s breast and liposuction re-do following her botched procedures?

Dr. Youn: I commend her for coming forth and revealing her plastic surgery struggles with the media. She has found an outstanding plastic surgeon to fix her unsatisfactory work, and has done the public a great service in coming forward with her story. She has encouraged many women to do their research in order to find a reputable plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

MMH: Do you think plastic surgery queens Demi Moore, Cher, Sharon Osbourne, and Joan Rivers can stay looking good for many more years or will they hit a point soon and start getting diminishing or negative returns from their cosmetic upkeep?

Dr. Youn: The question with anti-aging plastic surgery is when to stop. This is up to the surgeon to determine what he or she can do to make a person look better naturally. If there is nothing more that the surgeon can do then the surgeries must end. Some of the celebs above appear to have gone overboard with their work (Cher and Joan Rivers), while other look fantastic (Sharon Osbourne and Demi Moore). All of them should think about not having any more surgery for a long, long time.

MMH: Do you think Johnny Depp or Brad Pitt had any work done?

Dr. Youn: I read a report on one website that Johnny Depp may have had a threadlift performed. That procedure has very limited results, so whether or not it was actually done we’ll probably never know for sure. Brad Pitt is aging gracefully like Tom Cruise.

MMH: Can you share any celebrity plastic surgery secrets that the media has yet to pick up on?

Dr. Youn: The media is very savvy to celebrities having plastic surgery. A lot of the best work is done on stars before they make it big. This is when the surgery usually stays secret. There will always be something new and better on the horizon, and the stars will likely be the first ones to try it out.

MMH: What is the most requested celebrity look that you get from your patients as far as breasts, nose, lips, abdomen, legs (i.e. I want Angelina Jolie’s lips, etc.)?

Dr. Youn:

  • Breasts : Jessica Simpson, Halle Berry
  • Lips: Angelina Jolie, Scarlett Johannsen
  • Nose: Halle Berry (I’ve even had some ask for Michael Jackson! I turned them down for surgery)
  • Buttocks: Jennifer Lopez and Vida Guerra

MMH: Given the universal interest in celebrities, why do you personally enjoy speculating about celebrities and what they had done? Why do you think the public is so interested in knowing these celebrity secrets?

Dr. Youn: Celebrity plastic surgery speculation is an interest of mine ever since I was in one of the most prominent practices in Beverly Hills. Since I am now in Michigan, it gives me an opportunity to stay in touch with what many of my colleagues back in Hollywood are doing. Because some of the top cosmetic plastic surgeons are in Beverly Hills, assessing the quality of their results helps me to focus on achieving that same outstanding level of plastic surgery in my own patients.

The public has always been interested in everything about celebrities, whether it is what they are wearing, who they are dating, or what surgery they’ve had. It’s a way for the public to focus on people who may be different that they are.

Did Drew Barrymore Get A Breast Lift?

Posted on January 25th, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Makemeheal.com Staff

Drew BarrymoreLast year at the Golden Globes, free-spirited, sometimes bisexual Drew Barrymore came out as a presenter to shock worldwide viewers by not wearing a bra. Barrymore’s dress did little to hide large breasts that sagged and reached down to lower-arm level. Plastic surgeon Anthony Griffin went as far as saying “What the hell was she thinking, going braless? When she came out, my wife said, ‘She really needs a lift. I can’t believe a stylist let her go out like that.’ We look for them to be mid-arm level. Hers were down to her elbows.” To Drew Barrymore’s defense, we have to say how pleased we were to see a natural, self-empowered actress in the midst of all the superficial glitter of the awards show. Flash forward to this year’s Golden Globes where we evidence a stunning transformation in Drew Barrymore who appears lighter and more uplifted in the breast region. Of course, we know the wonders of a bra, but it is possible that Drew Barrymore had a breast lift in combination with a breast reduction. You be the judge, but we would like to comment that Drew was easily one of the most beautiful women at the Golden Globes this year and her angelic appearance, hair, makeup and dress (FYI, John Galliano for Christian Dior) were among the most chic looks of the night. We’d do away with the self-tanner though. Stay awesome Drew.

Jennifer Aniston Caught Outside Plastic Surgeon’s Office With Nose Job

Posted on January 24th, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Makemeheal.com Staff

Jennifer Aniston Nose JobJennifer Aniston paid a “secret” (not anymore) visit to celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Raj Kanodia (the surgeon who did the noses of Ashlee Simpson and Cameron Diaz) on Saturday, January 20 and allegedly had a nose surgery. While Aniston’s representative Kevin Huvane acknowledges that Aniston was at Dr. Kanodia’s office that day, he denies that the star had a full rhinoplasty, insisting that she was there to correct a deviated septum. “Jennifer had a procedure done to correct a deviated septum that was incorrectly done over 12 years ago,” said Kevin Huvane.

According to US Weekly, one day after appearing in a guest spot on Courtney Cox’s new TV series Dirt, Aniston was dropped off by her driver at Dr. Kanodia’s office in Beverly Hills. The 37-year old came reappeared outside the surgeon’s office over four hours later sporting black and blue bruises across the tip of her nose, right eyebrow, and upper lip. When Aniston realised that photographers were snapping pictures when she came out, she covered her nose with her hands.

While the representative vehemently denies that Aniston had a full-fledged rhinoplasty, a source tells US Weekly that the star has wanted to change her nose for over a decade. “Jen has hated her nose ever since her first nose job,” a source close to the actress tells Us. “She always said how lousy it was and that her nose was still too wide.”

The coming weeks will be telling as far as whether Jennifer Aniston had a mere corrective procedure or an actual rhinoplasty. Even if Aniston had a rhinoplasty, the changes may be so subtle (i.e. tip being raised, bridge being thinned) that it will be difficult to notice them considering that she went to a top surgeon. Regardless, it must be a bit unsettling for the star to be busted after trying to stage a low-profile visit to a plastic surgeon. Hollywood plastic surgeons may just need to come up with make-shift operating rooms in star homes or hotels to give them the privacy they need.

Finally, it is worthwhile to note that other rumors have been swirling about Jennifer Aniston having had a breast augmentation recently. Predictably, some tabloids now have a theory that all these procedures are a reaction to Jenn’s parting from Brad Pitt, the incessant reminders of Brangelina in the tabloids, and recent breakup from Vince Vaugh.  We’ll just have to see how she looks in a few weeks.

Heidi Klum’s Amazing Tummy (or Tuck)?

Posted on January 23rd, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Makemeheal.com Staff

This picture was dug up from a bit of time ago (circa November 2005) while we were trying to find celebrities that may have had tummy tucks (which are not as easy to detect as implants). We haven’t found anything yet that is worthy of comment but one blog rumor we did find had to do with Heidi Klum who quite incredibly managed to get back to model shape so quickly after the birth of her child (the second child in two years) to singer Seal and be ab-ready for a fashion show. While we can’t speculate if any tummy tuck was at hand, we can only envy and say how she looks incredible for a brand new mommy who just gave birth. We do detect her hips being a bit wide, tummy not as tight as it normally is, and her breasts are clearly engorged with milk. Klum attributes her quick weight loss to breast feeding. Our crew says that Heidi Klum’s Tummy is the product of reality-defying genes, not the knife. Way to go Heidi.

Paris Hilton Getting Eyelid Surgery

Posted on January 22nd, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Makemeheal.com Staff

Paris Hilton, Eyelid Surgery, Plastic

Paris Hilton is allegedly planning to have plastic surgery to correct her drooping left eyelid. Escorted by her sister Nicky, Paris Hilton allegedly had a recent consultation with a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon’s about her drooping eyelid problem (also known as ptosis).

Paris Hilton is said to have undergone plastic surgery six years ago to lift her eyelids. According to an insider, the muscles of her left eye were damaged during the procedure and left it “drooping” more than her right eyelid. A source told the New York Post, “She wanted to fix her drooping left eyelid.”

Hilton’s eyelid problem has been aggravated by Paris wearing tinted contact lenses constantly during current filming of her new movie “The Hottie and the Nottie”. Hilton has naturally brown eyes but has always worn blue tinted contact lenses. A source said, “Her eyes have been drying out lately. She is ignoring doctors’ orders not to wear her tinted contacts.”.

To no one’s surprise, Paris Hilton’s representative Elliot Mintz dismissed the rumors, saying “To the best of my knowledge, Paris has never had any kind of cosmetic surgery and has not mentioned any medical procedures having to do with her eyes.”

Paris Hilton is rumored to have had at least two nose surgeries, one in 2001 to build up her nose’s bridge, and a second one to slim down the tip of her nose.

Victoria Beckham Says She Looks Awful Naked

Posted on January 17th, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Makemeheal.com Staff

On the heels of Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham and her husband David’s relocation to Los Angeles, we thought we’d take a closer look at the old Spice Girl. Despite never admitting to having breast implants, the ultra-stylish 32-year old is quite brave and honest about her own physical insecurities. Victoria Beckham told the Australian version of Harper’s Bazaar that the toll of having three children and the weight fluctuations she endured from pregnancy and subsequent weight loss have been tough on her body. Despite having a seemingly thin and muscular physique, Victoria said quite matter of factly that she looks “really awful naked”. Victoria Beckham complains that “I’ve got so much saggy skin on my stomach. I might fit into jeans, but trust me, I look really awful naked.” Beckham, 32, adds that she has “no bum [butt] at all,” despite her appearance in ads for her new fragrance, which she credits to airbrushing and retouching magic. In an OK! Magazine article, Victoria Beckham said, “There are loads of things I don’t like about my body. I don’t like my hair, my belly button, my stomach or my fingernails. Also I have no definition, probably from having babies. I could go to the gym but I haven’t got the time or the energy.” Victoria Beckham said that she got her new, short haircut because “I got sick of those bloody hair extensions.” Victoria Beckham defended women who elect to have plastic surgery, saying that she understands their insecurities having many of her own. Victoria wishes she could be anonymous, saying that “I don’t need to feed my ego that way anymore.” This is refreshing to hear from a celebrity, although we hope to G-d that Victoria accepts hereself and does not take her insecurities farther to the level of a Body Dysmorphic Disorder.

It is rumored that Victoria Beckham had 3 breast augmentation procedures to achieve this current result. Victoria Beckham’s breast implants are a puzzling choice, as the result is clearly not natural and the implants are too round, hard-looking, and have an unnatural high “shelf-like” projection. With the many techniques available today, one would think that Victoria could have gotten a better breast augmentation. Nowadays, women with little breast tissue such as Victoria can achieve great results by going under the muscle to obtain a softer look.

We wish Victoria Beckham lots of luck with her singing career and being that she is in cahoots with Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes we hope that Scientology will not claim her. Can’t wait for that Tom Cruise scientology flick…it was not enough for us to endure John Travolta’s Scientology-based Battle Earth film. Stupidity repeats itself.

Has Jennifer Aniston Gotten Breast Implants?

Posted on January 15th, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Makemeheal.com Staff

(Above: After implants; Below: Pre-implants)
Previous rumors about Jennifer Aniston having a breast augmentation have reignited again after the seemingly more buxom accepted an award for best female star at the People’s Choice Awards on January 9, 2007. The Daily Mail captured Jennifer bending down slightly and revealing a somewhat fuller looking set of breasts. Looking stunning in a white dress, it’s hard to tell whether Jennifer had paid a recent visit to the plastic surgeon or had simply shopped for a good push up bra and made shrewd use of adhesive tape ahead of her big awards night. Jennifer Aniston has denied previous allegations that she’s had everything from a breast augmentation to a breast lift, going on record on the Oprah Show and saying that her seemingly growing chest is attributed to weight gain from eating a “couple cheese plates too many.” Aniston said “It’s called 10 pounds. You’re either ‘Look at the bump’ or pregnant… when, instead, it’s like a couple (of) cheese plates too many. You gain weight and that’s where it goes on me.”

(At People’s Choice Awards, 1/9/2007)
The recently single actress parted ways from actor Vince Vaughn right before Christmas after learning that he shacked up with a 20-year old student during a trip to Budapest in November of last year. While conventional wisdom would have everyone speculating that after having endured two breakups from two-timing boyfriends (Vaughn for the student and Brad Pitt for Angelina Jolie) Jennifer Aniston needed a boost, we’re not really sure if this story is holds true. The refreshingly natural looking 37-year old star is hot in our book with or sans the breast implants. If anyone shoots any photos of Jennifer in a bathing suit in the near future, please send them in to us so we can revisit this still unconfirmed rumor.

Besides Love, Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban Have Plastic Surgery In Common

Posted on January 10th, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Makemeheal.com Staff

Nicole Kidman, Plastic Surgery, RhinoplastyNicole Kidman, Plastic Surgery, Nose Job

Newlyweds Nicole Kidman and her crooner husband Keith Urban might share more in common than love, as the two Aussies are also fans of plastic surgery. Nicole Kidman is rumored to have had a rhinoplasty and incessant botox shots to keep her porcelaine skin look intact. In the photos, one can see that her nose is more defined, the tip is retracted and shorter, and the nostrils are smaller.

Here is a great link to a gallery of photos of Nicole Kidman through the ages.

Sidekick Keith Urban has changed his look more than a thousand times, but has nonetheless aged incredibly and looks better than in his younger years, having aquired a stronger jaw and slightly more puff in his cheeks. While this could be natural genes, there might be some jaw and cheek implants in the mix for this chameleon boozer.

Has Nancy Pelosi Had Plastic Surgery?

Posted on January 10th, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Makemeheal.com Staff

There’s a lot to admire in Nancy Pelosi, the first woman, first Californian, and first Italian American to become the Speaker of the House of Representatives. No woman has ever gotten closer to the presidency than Pelosi. But there’s a lot more to admire besides Pelosi’s achievements, as the 66-year old grandmother has preserved herself well through the years and looks great. There is speculation that Nancy Pelosi had a face lift and eye lift. Nancy Pelosi flatly denies this rumor, saying she never had one. When asked about the plastic surgery rumor, Pelosi said “I hear them say on TV that I’ve had face-lifts, I heard one woman say I’ve had a face-lift, but it looks terrible.” She shook her had and said, “Did you ever think that those two things cancel themselves out?” Looking at recent photos, one can’t help but see that her eyes are quite refreshed and open, there are no jowls, and the neckline is quite taut. Whether Nancy Pelosi had surgery or not is besides the point, she looks fantastic and we hope she will kick butt in the House. As for Hillary Clinton, if she’s going ot make a run for the White House now’s the time to make a call to Pelosi and get some beauty maintenance tips…and the number of Pelosi’s plastic surgeon.

Dr. Garth Fisher: Both Saline And Silicone Implants Can Look Great

Posted on January 9th, 2007 in Plastic Surgeon Articles & Interviews by Makemeheal.com Staff

Dr. Garth Fisher, Plastic SurgeonWorld renowned Dr. Garth Fisher, the first plastic surgeon from “Extreme Makeover” says that the way breasts and implants look has more to do with the technique rather than the type of implant used and that there is an excellent chance that women who undergo breast augmentation surgery will have more than one surgery in her lifetime. This exclusive interview is part of a Make Me Heal series of conversations with top plastic surgeons.

MMH: Have you started using silicone implants since the FDA approved their use?

Dr. Fisher: I have been involved in the FDA study with silicone implants since 1991 and have been using them for the past 17 years. I have continued using them since the FDA approved their use, and have always been a supporter of silicone breast implants. During that time, I was one of the largest single surgeon users of Mentor breast implants in the western United States.

MMH: Do you think more women will opt for silicone implants than saline implants over the next 5 years? What percentage would you speculate will get silicone versus saline?

Dr. Fisher:
I definitely think more women will be asking for Silicone gel implants in the future now that their fears have been further alleviated. I don’t think the plastic surgery community of surgeons ever felt they presented unique health risks. I would estimate that 50% more women will be asking for silicone implants.

MMH: Do you feel silicone implants look aesthetically better and more natural relative to saline implants?

Dr. Fisher: The way breasts and associated implants “look” has more to do with the technique, than the type of implant. BOTH saline and silicone implants can look and feel great and natural. Patients who have thin skin and little breast tissue benefit more from silicone implants because in those patients, their implants comprise a higher percentage of the composition of their breast. Thus, you are able to see and feel the implants more. Silicone implants in those patients feel more natural and they see less “rippling”. (See naked truth about plastic surgery vol 2 at www.garthfisher.com.)

MMH: Do silicone implants feel more “real” to the touch compared to saline implants?

Dr. Fisher: Silicone implants feel more real to the touch compared to saline when you are just holding them in your hand. However, if a woman has thick skin, or a lot of breast tissue, saline implants feel very “real” and “natural”. Putting the implants under or “partially” under the muscle also helps to make the implants feel more natural within the body.

MMH: Are silicone implants lighter, heavier, or have the same weight as their saline counterparts?

Saline and silicone implants of equal size basically weigh the same.

MMH: Is the recovery from having silicone implants any different from having saline implants?

Dr. Fisher: The recovery period after augmenting a patient with saline and silicone implants is the same. The recovery differs with various techniques and surgeons.

MMH: Do you think silicone implants present any safety issue as far as rupturing and the potential health effects if silicone leaked to other parts of the body?

Dr. Fisher: I personally do not feel this represents a significant health risk, but do advise removing them if they are ruptured. Many ruptures are “silent”, in that they difficult to diagnose and detect. Monthly breast exams, follow-up appointments with your doctor, age appropriate screening mammograms are essential. For silicone implants, MRIs every 3 years are advised. It is important to know that there is an excellent chance that you will have more than one surgery in your lifetime if you have a breast augmentation surgery. MMH: If you do not believe that there are any safety downsides to using silicone implants, are there any remaining advantages to getting saline implants now that the FDA approved silicone implants?

Dr. Fisher: I continue and will continue to use saline implants, as I believe they are excellent devises for breast augmentation. When using the right technique in the proper patient, they feel and look very natural. Advantages of saline implants are numerous and include: a) Smaller incisions can be used as the saline implants are inflated “after” they are implanted. b) They can be inflated to any size to help with patients who have “asymmetric” or different breasts. Silicone implants come “prefilled”, although they do come in many prefilled sizes and shapes. c) In the event of an implant rupture, saline is excreted in your urine. (Saline composes roughly 75% of your body makeup). d). For those who continue to be fearful of silicone, saline is an excellent option!

MMH: What is the ideal profile of a woman who should elect for silicone implants?

Dr. Fisher: I don’t think there is an ideal profile for a woman electing for silicone implants. She should get as educated as possible regarding the risks, benefits, and alternatives of surgery so she can make a intelligent decision. She should set up numerous consult appointments with plastic surgeons specializing in breast augmentation to develop a rapport and comfort level with her surgeon. She should feel both types of implants and determine what is best for her unique anatomy and goals.

MMH: What is the profile of a woman who should not elect to have silicone implants?

Dr. Fisher: Women under 22 cannot have silicone implants at this time.

MMH: What is the best incision in your opinion?

Dr. Fisher: You can see wonderful and awful results from any incision. So much is dependent on the skill of your surgeon. I personally prefer the incision under the nipple as it can provide minimum scarring that will be seen by the fewest people. I think the incision through the belly button is more risky, makes less sense, and is least appropriate.

MMH: Is it true that there is usually no loss of sense of touch of the nipples?

Dr. Fisher: Losing sensation in your nipples has less to do with the incision location and more to do with the size of the implants. You can lose total sensation of the nipple through belly button and armpit incisions as the nerve is damaged in the dissection area when developing a pocket for the implant. In general, the larger the implant, the larger the dissection area, the larger the risk of losing sensation. Incisions at the bottom of the nipple should not be made large enough to damage the main nerves to the nipple.

MMH: Do breasts with implants experience greater sagging over time than natural breasts?

Dr. Fisher: I think it makes sense that the larger an implant, or the more a breast weighs, the more it is prone to sag over time. Some patients however, develop enough scar tissue that it keeps the breast high. On the other hand, breast implants are an excellent treatment for stages of drooping and to that degree, often make the breast look fuller and better as the drooping process evolves.

MMH: What bra do you suggest for post-surgery? Below is a link to some post-surgery bras:

The bras suggested on your store link (see below) are excellent bras for post op recovery for breast surgery. It is important to listen to the advice of your doctor and follow his instructions.

MMH: Name celebrities that you think had great breast augmentations and celebrities that you think had bad breast augmentations?

Dr. Fisher: I am frequently asked to comment on celebrities plastic surgery. Some of these are my patients and confidentiality is the backbone of my business. We pride ourself in keeping the related medical information “confidential”. I don’t feel a plastic surgeon is required to identify those with “bad” plastic surgery. J [smiley emoticon]
