Does Rihanna Have A Plastic Surgery Groove?

Rihanna, Nose Job, Rhinoplasty

Busting out on stage at the MTV Film Awards on Sunday in a Dominatrix-inspired black outfit and pink umbrella, Rihanna wowed the audience with her performance of “Umbrella”. The performance only confirmed Rihanna reign as the new darling of the R&B world. Being at the center of attention, Rihanna is frequently in the middle of hotly contested plastic surgery rumors about whether or not the perfect-looker is real or a little plastic. In light of Rihanna’s sometimes all-too perfect look, complete with perfect face and body, some would obviously jump to the conclusion that she must have had some assistance from the knife along the way.

The most credible Rihanna plastic surgery rumor is that she had a nose job. Pictures of the star do show that the singer used to have a wider nose, whereas now the nose appears slimmer, more projected, and the bridge and tip are narrower now than in older pictures of Rihanna. Being that Rihanna’s look has improved dramatically in the last two years, a nose job is clearly a strong possibility.

A closer look at Rihanna’s nose over the last two years, however, shows that her nose is narrow and sculpted in some recent photos, but then mysteriously returns to being wider again in photos taking around the same time. This suggests that what is at hand here is probably clever use of makeup, which apparently Rihanna is very fond of because of her having grown around a mother who was very makeup-savvy.

Plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn also went through the same line of reasoning about Rihanna’s nose job likely being just excellent makeup skill. Speaking to Make Me Heal, Dr. Youn says “The first ‘after’ photo looks like her nose is a bit thinner and more projecting. It is possible that lighting may be the cause, but not obvious. The second ‘after’ photo looks pretty similar to the before photos. Difficult to tell, but most likely there is no surgery there.” For these reason, it’s hard to conclude that a nose job is at work here.

The second rumor about Rihanna has less to do with enhancement of her physical features, but more to do with the seeming change in her skin tone which is lighter now than a few years ago when it was more brown. It is quite possible that Rihanna is using skin lightening creams and bleaching agents to lighten her skin tone and give her a more universal look, or again is using makeup to brighten her complexion. It should be noted that Rihanna has had a skin acne problem that seems to be clearing up now.

Whatever Rihanna is doing, keep on doing it because the fans are going crazy for her.

Michelle’s Liposuction Journey With Vaser & SmartLipo

Posted on June 6th, 2007 in Personal Interviews by Makemeheal.com Staff

michelle-before-after-liposuction

Michelle Goldstein (member name: chelle229) is a young and active person who exercises regularly. Michelle turned to liposuction after seeing that her lower abdomen and her flanks (love handles) did not respond to regular exercise. Michelle did not want to lose her perfect hips and breasts by endlessly dieting and choose the plastic surgery alternative. As she wanted quick results with small downtime, she elected to have Vaser liposuction for the larger areas of fat and SmartLipo for the other body parts. Michelle got exactly the contour expected and can finally show off the curves she has always desired. As the following interview reveals, intensive research, realistic expectations and the help of other fellow patients on plastic surgery message boards were key reasons for Michelle’s happy story. With about 900 cc’s removed and amazing results that have raised her self-esteem, Michelle’s best advice is: “I hope that people will hear my experience and just go for it! For we only live once!!”.
Join us as we caught up with Michelle in this intimate interview. Michelle used
Dr. Lomboy in Tampa, FL.

See Michelle’s Before & After Plastic Surgery Album.

Make Me Heal: When did you first have the idea to have your procedure(s)?

Michelle: I saw an article in People magazine over Thanksgiving break about the FDA approval of SmartLipo. This procedure intrigued me because it promised barely visible incisions with no stitches, little to no downtime on recovery, local anesthesia and less weeks in a garment.

Make Me Heal: What were your motivations (physical, emotional, social, etc.) behind your decision to have the procedure(s)? Being a petite woman, there are only so many places to hold my weight.

Michelle: My sides and lower abs would not respond as well to a healthy diet or exercise. No matter how much weight I would lose, I would still keep pockets of fat in those areas.

Make Me Heal: How long did it take you to make a decision and was it an easy or difficult one to make? Please explain why it was easy or difficult.

Michelle: As soon as I found out Tampa had these newer procedures, I did more research and realized this would be something I wanted to do. I knew it was a safe procedure that had a very low complication rate, therefore it was an easy decision.

Make Me Heal: Did your family, friends, and any other people in your close circle give you support, opposition, or did you make this decision without considering them?

Michelle: I discussed with a select few on my decision and did get their support knowing that this was a very safe procedure that would make me more confident.

Make Me Heal: How did you research the procedure(s) and come to decide on this particular procedure(s). Please discuss your research process and all research sources you used (online, books, recommendations, word of mouth).

Michelle: I conducted tons of research on the internet, including reading multiple posts on MMH and reading about people’s real life experiences. I also talked extensively with the Patient Care Coordinator of my doctor. She has been through the Vaser & SmartLipo procedure before and it was great to hear tips from someone who has been through that.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss if you used any of Make Me Heal’s resources such as the message boards, pictures library, doctor directory and doctor reviews, and any recovery and preparation products that you used.

Michelle: The boards have been a lifesaver. Not only have I learned tons of information, I have made friends on MMH that have given me great support. It’s an amazing group of women! I bought a few things off of MMH boards that include: Vitamedica Arnica and Bromelain kit, Rainey Stage I and Stage II garments.

Make Me Heal: How did you come to choose your doctor? Please mention how many consultations you had with different doctors before making your decision.

Michelle: I found out that Dr. Caroline Lomboy of Isis Cosmetic had these newer procedures off of a news segment on them. The very next day I called the office for a consulation. I spoke with their Patient Care Coordinator who briefed me on the Vaser and SmartLipo procedure and answered any initial questions that I had. When I arrived for my consulation, I was greeted by the PCC and spoke with him more about the procedure in depth. Then, I met with the doctor and felt extremely comfortable. I also felt that their pricing was very fair.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss if you have any role in deciding the type of technique used for your surgery by the doctor, incision placements, implant brand, anesthesia type, etc.

Michelle: The doctor showed me where the incisions were going to be placed and she put them in places that would be less visible, which was perfect.

Make Me Heal: How did you prepare for the surgery? You can discuss everything from products you purchased, home preparations, and preparations involving your family and work. If you purchased any products featured on the Makemeheal.com site, please specify them.

Michelle: As stated above, I bought a few items off of MMH and they had great customer service and fast shipping. I started to really up my protein and eat pinepple, which is a pure form of Bromelain a couple of weeks before my surgery. A week before I was taking 2000 mg of Vitamin C to build up my immune system. I stayed away from any foods that contained Vitamin E and cut out alcohol, since both thin the blood. I started Bromelain and Arnica as directed on the Vitamedica package. I also bought a topical arnica gel which was a lifesaver for the bruising. At home I had precooked meat, cut up veggies and fruit before I went in for surgery. I also pumped up my airmattress in my living room, to be completely comfortable. I took off a Friday of work to get my procedure and was told I would be fine to return to work on Monday, which I was!

Make Me Heal: How were you feeling the night before the surgery and on the moments before the surgery itself? Please discuss thoughts, fears, emotions, and prayers.

Michelle: I have to admit that was the worst part, even compared to the recovery! I was really scared, knowing that my mother lives in another state did not help either. But I did get a good sleep and once I was brought to the doctor’s office I was reassured that everything would be ok.

Make Me Heal: How was the recovery process? Please discuss what side effects you experienced? What were the worse parts of the recovery? Did anyone help you during the recovery?

Michelle: My recovery was pretty easy! I had no nausea or severe pain. I only felt pressure in my abs, like I really had a hard workout. I was told that was also a factor of swelling, which as you can see in my pictures.. I really did not swell! I am now two months post-op and am really getting feeling back in these areas. My friend helped me out right after surgery, but I was totally fine except for being a little loopy from the pain meds.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss the pain or discomfort you experienced during the recovery?

Michelle: I wouldn’t say I ever felt pain, more of just a numbness feeling. The garment was definitely something that I got used to right away and felt that I really needed right after surgery. It made me feel intact.

Make Me Heal: How well prepared were you for the recovery from physical, emotional, and mental respects? Did you do any research (i.e. online, books, message boards, etc.) to make your recovery smoother?

Michelle: I recovered so well emotionally, knowing that I already saw results right away and that I didn’t do anything to ruin my body. I couldn’t believe how quick results appeared and how much a slight tweak to my body really did change me. Any questions or concerns I had were shared with the women on MMH who came back with advice since they had the same experiences.

Make Me Heal: What are your top recovery tips to other patients?

Michelle: First, please be patient. Lipo is a procedure that can take time for results, but all of a sudden they are visible. Make sure to take your meds as directed, eat healthy and take it easy.

Make Me Heal: How long did you take off from work? What did you tell your co-workers about taking this time off? Did anyone notice your cosmetic procedures at work and what did you tell them if they asked about it?

Michelle: I had my surgery Friday at 1PM and was already back at work on Monday. None of my co-workers, except my boss knew about the procedure. It was very easy for me to keep that a secret, due to the quick recovery.

Make Me Heal: How happy are you with the results?

Michelle: I am thrilled with my results. I knew no matter how much exercise I did, I could not fix this on my own.

Make Me Heal: How has your makeover impacted your life from personal, social, career, and other respects?

Michelle: I have gained confidence about my physical looks. I now have been given the ability to share my experience with others that leads them to change their lives in a positive way too, which is more than I could have asked for.

Make Me Heal: Would you have done anything differently if you had the chance?

Michelle: Not at all. I am so happy with every aspect of this experience.

Make Me Heal: What is your final word of advice to other people considering the procedure(s) you had?

Michelle: Make sure to take tons of before and have a picture trail throughout the whole process. You’ll be amazed how much you really change.

Make Me Heal: Was Make Me Heal beneficial to you along your journey?

Michelle: Absolutely, not only are the message boards organized, there is a great group of women that have been longtime members that support each other.

MTV Film Awards Plastic Surgery Recap

Posted on June 5th, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Oscars Plastic Surgery, Award Shows by Jet H. Ross

There was plenty of music, movies, and plastic surgery at the MTV Film Awards this past Sunday. Everything from boob jobs, shapelier noses, lip injections, and botox graced the faces and bodies of Hollywood’s hottest stars.

Jessica Biel, Nose Job, MTV Film Awards

While Jessica Biel may have chosen the wrong dress to wear, the unflattering outfit did little to detract attention from her beautiful face. Jessica’s nose appears to have been redone, as her old nose and tip has been thinned and the bridge is narrower. Beyond a nose job, Jessica’s lips are full, making us wonder whether she has had lip injections again as she has done in the past on more than a few occasions.

“Jessica Biel does appear to have had some lip injections, possibly with restylane or collagen. While her real lips do appear fuller than the average female’s lips, they appear to be enhanced,” tells plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn to Make Me Heal.

Heidi Montag, Breast Implants, MTVDressed in a silky blue nightgown, Heidi Montag showed off her new breast implants which were bursting out of the sides of her dress. The star of “The Hills” appeared more confident than ever in her new bosom, and her look has gone from girl-next-door to porn-licious for the awards. Heidi appears to have upgraded from small B cup breasts to a full C cup breast size. Additionally, the bridge of her nose appears narrowed and the tip is more pointy. It seems that Heidi’s breast implants and nose job have paid off, as it was reported that Montag was allegedly offered $1 million to appear nude in Playboy Magazine. Heidi’s cosmetic makeover is a winner in our eyes and the actress’s openess about speaking about her plastic surgery is refreshing.

Cameron Diaz, Nose Job, MTVCameron Diaz made a high-wattage appearance at the MTV Awards in an itzy-bitzy black mini-skirt that was all about the legs. Diaz looked fabulous and her recently surgically operated nose showed no trace of her past imperfection, namely, a crooked nose whose bridge was twisted towards the right at the top of her nose. Cameron’s new nose has a straighter bridge than her older nose, although the actress’s new nose still bears some asymmetry so as not to change her look too much.

Cameron Diaz had a rhinoplasty in 2007 which she says was performed only for medical reasons to repair a deviated septum and alleviate breathing problems that she’s been after having broken her nose four times previously. The only problem with this story is that Cameron’s nose looks aesthetically improved, so the outcome had some cosmetic benefits.

Victoria Beckham, Breast Implants, MTV Film AwardsVictoria Beckham’s breasts actually looked subdued at the MTV Awards compared to other public outings, as Posh Spice’s trademark hard-balled implants did not pop out of her dress in perfectly round fashion. Beckham had three breast augmentation procedures to achieve her current result.

Beckham’s flawless and wrinkle-free skin also reminded us of the Botox parties that she allegedly has with her husband David Beckham in their home. The married couple also appear to be sharing the same hair bleach bottle, as they both are both sporting blond haircuts these days.

John Travolta, Hair Transplant, Facelift

Always perfectly coiffed with not one hair out of place, “Hairspray” star John Travolta did not disappoint by showing up to the MTV Awards with his best artificial hair system. Hair systems such as the one that Travolta seems to be wearing are made with a fine mesh material to which hairs are put together meticulously one hair strand at a time. Moreover, Travolta, now 53, has the skin of a thirty year old youngling with no deep lines or wrinkles, laugh lines, or worry lines that would normally grace the face of a man of his age. Travolta’s neck is tout and tight and he has very little jowling. There is little to doubt that Travolta has likely met the knife and made use of botox injections and a possible facelift or other facial surgical procedure. In a moment of fiction imitating reality, Travolta will actually be playing a workaholic with a bad hairpiece turned biker in an upcoming film “Wild Hogs”. This should be the easiest role Travolta has played yet.

Sex and the Single Woman - Facing sexuality after breast surgery

Posted on June 5th, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by thebreastcaresite.com

By Becky Zuckweiler, MS, RN

Facing sexuality again after breast surgery can be a particularly fearful and despairing time for a single woman. Many single women feel as though no one will ever want them sexually or be attracted to them after learning they have had a lumpectomy or a mastectomy. While this is a common feeling, it is not true. Women with partners also suffer from these same kinds of thoughts. These fears are a normal initial reaction. You will be able to work through your fears, and as time goes on you will find your attitude has changed.

Getting Started Again
Remember, when you decide to go on a date you are only agreeing to spend a few hours with a new person. At the end of those few hours you will make a decision as to whether you want to continue the relationship or not. This is just like it was before your surgery. Take new relationships in small steps. Take time to get to know the interests, behaviors, attitudes, and emotional development of this person. As you spend more time with each other you will know if this person has demonstrated enough emotional maturity and sensitivity to earn your trust. If not, it is probably not in your interest to continue this relationship.

Communication
There is no correct time to tell a new partner about your lumpectomy or mastectomy. It’s whenever you feel you are comfortable enough and trust the other person. I think of sharing my personal history as a privilege that people have to earn. They earn it by showing me they will handle my vulnerable side with acceptance, gentleness, and sensitivity.

Remember, telling someone you have had a mastectomy or a lumpectomy is not a confession. You have not been “hiding a dirty little secret”. You have only been preserving your right to privacy. When you are ready to try, start with open communication. This does not mean you have to reveal everything about your experience immediately. It only means you use clear, direct words to convey your message.

Is breast reconstruction a must for the single woman?
Many single women feel they do not really have a choice as to whether or not they have reconstructive surgery. Many feel that it is a “must”. I encourage you to take your time in making this decision. You can have reconstructive surgery done at any point in your life, but you can’t completely undo it once it’s done. You may want to seek counseling or bring the issue up at a support group to help you sort this out. Listening to the experiences of other women is often the best information you can have.

Giving up your sexuality
All women run the risk of just “giving up” their sexuality after breast surgery because it is so difficult to deal with the grief they are experiencing from their loss and their fear of rejection. Single women are especially at risk because they do not have someone else helping to work through these emotions. They do not feel they “would be letting someone else down” if they did not work through this problem. Remember, letting yourself down is worse than letting someone else down. I encourage you to accept the challenge. When you finally work through this, you will emerge with a sex life that is physically and emotionally satisfying, It will be worth the effort and you will be a stronger person.

Sex and the Elderly Woman
A woman’s age can make a difference in how she and her partner cope with sexuality and the loss of her breast. Many older women were taught from a young age that sex is a private matter that should not be discussed. As well, older women may have physical conditions not related to their breast surgery that have already forced them to change or limit their sexuality. Chronic pain, joint problems, heart conditions, fatigue, and many other health problems may affect how older women approach sex.

Many older couples emphasize intimacy rather than intense sexual pleasure. Comfortable, warm, and tender holding of each other that allows for physical limitations can play a much bigger part in an older couple’s sex life than a younger couple’s. Elderly couples may not talk about sex as much or as openly, but often they have gone through so much together that incorporating the loss of a breast into their sex life is done more easily. This does not mean that elderly couples never have intercourse or do not care about the loss of a breast. It is a significant loss for them too.

Older single or widowed women may be less likely to take on new sexual partners, but that does not mean they never do. Older women also have to deal with their changed appearance and desire to appear feminine and attractive. For older single women who may become physically intimate, the approach will be the same as it is for any single woman.

What Plastic Surgery Did Jessica Biel Have Done?

Posted on June 4th, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Oscars Plastic Surgery, Award Shows by Sam Stets

Plastic Surgery At The 2007 MTV Film Awards

Appearing at the MTV Awards on Sunday in a short black dress, Jessica Biel presented an award with Adam Sandler and Kevin James. From “Seventh Heaven” television star to major film actress and girlfriend to sexy crooner Justin Timberlake, Biel’s looks have catapulted along with her scorching career. We decide to open a plastic surgery profile on Jessica and see what we might dig up.

Jessica Biel, Nose Job, Rhinoplasty, Lip Augmentation

Looking at Jessica’s evolution through the ages it appears that she had lip injections through Restylane or Collagen, as evidenced by overly voluptuous and pouty lips in a good number of her public appearances. While Biel may have been born with full lips, the added volume in her lips does not appear to be natural. “Jessica Biel does appear to have had some lip injections, possibly with restylane or collagen. While her real lips do appear fuller than the average female’s lips, they appear to be enhanced,” tells plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn to Make Me Heal.

But it appears that Jessica Biel did not stop at her lips in her quest for enhancement. Jessica Biel’s nose may have been cleverly shaped by a plastic surgeon, as old photos of her show a more bulbous tip, whereas her current nose is more sculpted, the tip is thinner, and the bridge is narrower. If Biel did have a rhinoplasty, then the results are natural-looking and subtle, only accentuating her god-given beauty. “There is also a possibility that her nose has been slightly thinned,” said Dr. Youn.

The difference in Jessica’s look from her younger days to today is quite striking and it is possible that Jessica felt the need to present herself as a more sexy and mature woman once her career escalated from a young pastor’s daughter on television to a film star beauty. While the knife appears to have played a role in some of her transformation, the enhancement is decidedly positive as Biel has evolved into her best self. Justin Timberlake certainly thinks so.

Did Pirate Keira Knightly Get Knifed By Plastic Surgery?

Posted on June 3rd, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Oscars Plastic Surgery, Award Shows by Jet H. Ross

Plastic Surgery At The MTV Film Awards

Nominated for Best Performance at the MTV Awards tonight for her role in “Pirates of the Caribbean” but losing out to co-star Johnny Depp who snapped the award, Keira Knightly has admitted to having had a lip augmentation to enhance her upper lip after being spotted leaving a plastic surgeon’s office.

keira Knightly, Plastic Surgery, Lip Augmentation

The British actress said “Okay, I had it done. I had a larger top lip done.” Speaking about her visit to the plastic surgeon, Knightly explained “The reason I was there was to treat my acne though. I am only human as you can see - I’m a normal girl.”

Oddly enough, Keira Knightly later denied having gotten collagen injections, saying “I haven’t had my lips done. Can I just say that I haven’t. It’s the idea people believe it! I’ve had friends phone me up and I’ve told them ‘Get Lost! Of course I haven’t.”

Although voted as one of the sexiest actresses today, Knightly has confessed to having low a self-body image and has publicly complained about her face, buttock, and weight on various occasions. Knightly sarcastically admitted that she will likely have plastic surgery in the future, saying “In five years’ time I will probably already be past it and having Botox, face-lifts, nose jobs and false hair.”

Keira Knightly said that earlier in her career when she was not an established star, film executives asked her to have liposuction and a nose job.

Did Mandy Moore Have Plastic Surgery?

Posted on June 3rd, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Oscars Plastic Surgery, Award Shows by YuMin Ye

Plastic Surgery At The MTV Film Awards

Mandy Moore, a presenter at the MTV Film Awards this Sunday, has a plastic surgery secret that she does not want fans to know about.

Mandy Moore, Nose Job, Rhinoplasty

When Mandy Moore made her entrance at the MTV Awards tonight in an elegant red dress with her “Licensed To Wed” co-star John Krasinksi, she did not want fans to know about her plastic surgery secret.

Despite denying previously that she had gone under the knife, Moore’s pretty nose is rumored to be the un-genetic result of a rhinplasty (nose job) that was done sometime in the last 3-5 years. That would mean that Moore had her surgery by the tender age of 20.

In Mandy Moore’s younger photos, her nose has a wider, round tip. Fast forward to the present and her nose is a bit slimmer, with a pointier tip. Just taking a closer look at the nostrils, it appears that they come in more inwardly compared to her old nose where the nostrils are more pronounced, making Mandy Moore’s nose look smaller overall.

Moore has flatly denied the rhinoplasty allegations, insisting that the plastic surgery rumor “doesn’t make sense! I haven’t had a nose job!”

To Mandy Moore’s defense, the changes that are seen in the photos are subtle enough that it is possible that her nose is natural and that the pictures are simply showing her in angles that exaggerate her nose. Speaking to Make Me Heal about the MTV Awards, Plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn also was not sure about Moore having a rhinoplasty, saying “She may very well have had a rhino, but it’s not completely obvious with these photos.” Dr. Youn added that “I think it may be the certain photo of her (maybe she is looking a bit surprised and taking in a breath). Anyways, the front view before and after are not comparable photos since she is smiling in one and not the other.”

Rhinoplasty can be done for aesthetic reasons or to fix a disfigured nose if the person has gone through an accident. Most celebrities get nose jobs for aesthetic reasons, usually to meet the standards of beauty as portrayed by the media. Mandy Moore may have been bitten by the Hollywood Plastic Surgery bug, but being so young, she didn’t want to admit to it…just yet.

Silicone: How Breast Forms Differ From Breast Implants?

Posted on June 1st, 2007 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by thebreastcaresite.com

Silicone got a lot of bad press in the 90’s because of health issues surrounding breast implants. But it is important to point out that none of the health concerns which arose from use of these implants apply to breast prostheses or “breast forms” as they are commonly known.

After breast conserving surgery, where malignant tumors are removed and healthy breast tissue remains, women expect to look and feel much the same as they did before surgery. Unfortunately, this is not always the case, and women find themselves looking for a way to return to a more symmetrical and natural shape.

vs.

Health problems associated with implants had to do with the fact that they were inside the body, not outside the body. Breast forms are worn on the outside of the body. The worst health problem you’re likely to encounter by wearing one is prickly heat if you sweat a lot.

Both implants and better quality breast prostheses are made with medical grade silicone. But there are differences. Implants are not as firm, and there is no pigment. Also, the film surrounding the silicone is different. Both use a polyurethane film, but of different grades. The polyurethane used with implants had to be resistant to water from body tissues. With breast forms, it’s more important to use a film that protects against the wear and tear of daily use.

Problems with silicone leaking into the body were a major source of trouble with implants, along with the fear that leaking implants might cause certain connective tissue diseases. If a breast form leaks you might get a sticky spot on your bra or on your chest wall, depending upon where the leak is. It is not toxic.

One of the most typical problems after breast conserving surgery is a small cavity in the breast which creates a sunken or shallow area visible under the bra. A balanced silicone shaper can fill this type of cavity and be worn in any fashion bra for a smooth, full, even shape.

Insurance companies have varying degrees of coverage for silicone shapers. Many policies which cover prosthetic breasts are not specific about coverage for products after breast conserving surgery or reconstruction. A good rule of thumb for insurance companies is this: If a product is needed to restore the patient’s natural weight and balance, it will be covered. If the need is purely cosmetic, coverage is normally denied. Patients will have to check with their insurance provider for details of the coverage.

There are lots of reasons for choosing or not choosing reconstruction. This is a deeply personal decision. The only “right” choice is one that feels right to you in your particular circumstances. Sometimes circumstances change and sometimes you have to re-evaluate your choices, but acknowledging your own feelings is the most important step toward making this decision.
