Lara Flynn Boyle’s Back With More Plastic Surgery

Posted on March 31st, 2008 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Lisa Stern

When Lara Flynn Boyle appeared in Wayne’s World back in 1992, she looked like a sweet innocent young woman who was completely untouched by artifice or plastic surgery. But as the 38-year old, raven-haired actress has reappeared over the years, most recently on Law & Order earlier this month, Make Me Heal has noticed that she has taken on a very fake and awkward appearance, from her ever-increasing lips to her fuller, smoother face.

Lara Flyn Boyle, Law & Order, Cheek Implants

The pictures of Lara Flynn Boyle at the start of her career show the actress as having a narrow face with clearly defined cheekbones that don’t seem unusually high or big. Her old nose also looked wider than it has for many years, indicating that the actress had a nose job fairly early in her career. The rhinoplasty gave her a nose a narrower bridge and more pinched tip.

Lara Flyn Boyle, Rhinoplasty, Cheek Implants

Lara’s next step was to be one of the first actresses known for her large lips. Lara’s lips have become fuller over the years and she now sports the dreaded “trout pout” taking over Hollywood. For her lip enhancement, the plastic surgeon could have used a variety of fillers, including collagen or one of the newer, more temporary fillers like Restylane or Juvederm. She has been undergoing lip augmentation for so long that she may have changed her fillers. In either case, her lips are looking more than overdone.

In her recent television appearance on Law & Order, Lara’s face has appeared a lot fuller than it has in the past, indicating that she may have had cheek implants or as plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn suggested, fat grafts or Sculptra injections. Cheek implants would be the most drastic attempt to regain a fuller, more youthful appearance, which is also the goal of the less invasive fat grafts and Sculptra injections, which are both non-invasive antiaging treatments to help reduce the gaunt appearance of growing older.

The perpetually thin Lara went through an especially ultra-skinny period when she was a star on The Practice and notoriously dating the decades-older actor Jack Nicholson (read the complete story about Jack Nicholson’s Plastic Surgery). Maybe Lara Flynn Boyle’s recent more filled-out appearance is nothing more than a much-needed weight gain.

Lindsay Lohan’s Sister Ali Getting Plastic Surgery?

Posted on March 28th, 2008 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Carrie Zender

It’s no secret that Lindsay Lohan’s sister Ali has wanted to follow her famous sibling’s footsteps, by becoming an actress and a party girl. But does that include following her to the plastic surgeon’s office at the tender age of 14? Ali’s lips have been looking significantly larger and fuller than they previously did, leading Make Me Heal to believe that lip augmentation is involved.

Ali Lohan, Lindsay, Lip Augmenation

Lately, Ali is looking more like a grown-up and less like a teen and her larger lips accentuate her adult appearance. Injectible lip fillers like collagen, Restalyn and Juvederm require maintenance and don’t come cheap, at $600 a pop. It is possible that she is simply using natural lip plumpers and can easily be found at drugstores and cosmetic counters and simply irritate the lips so that they swell temporarily. At her young age, it seems like parental permission would be needed for plastic surgery, even a non-invasive procedure like lip augmentation whose side effects are usually minor and include temporary bruising and swelling.

Dr. Paul S. Nassif, a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Spalding Drive Plastic Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology, agrees with Make Me Heal’s assessment, saying, “Ali Lohan looks as if she could have had a filler place in her lip. Her vermillion border, which defines the outline of the lips, appears to be enhanced. If she has had lip enhancement, most likely, she’s had a hyaluronic acid placed, such as Juvederm and Restylane. I don’t think that using natural limp plumpers can give you this type of before and after results.”

When Make Me Heal previously reported on Lindsay Lohan’s lip augmentation (read the full story on Lindsay’s Lip Augmentation), plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn said, “She appears to have had her lips augmented with a filler, such as Restylane or Juvederm.” He is now saying much the same thing about the younger Lohan, “”Her upper lip is too large in proportion to her lower lip, and the borders of the lips are exaggerated,” said Dr. Youn. “[Her lips] appear a bit overdone, and in my opinion, it would be a very unusual procedure for a 14-year-old.”

Both sisters now sport matching trout pouts along with their flowing auburn weaves, making them picture perfect. The only downside, though, is that Ali now looks a bit too seductive and precocious for her age and has a significantly more mature look than her younger fourteen year old peers.

Rebecca’s Happy With Her Liposuction

Posted on March 28th, 2008 in Personal Interviews by Makemeheal.com Staff

Liposuction, Photos, Before, After

See Rebecca’s Before & After Plastic Surgery Pictures Album.

Rebecca (username: RebeccaDownunder) has always been the “skinny” girl who never had to worry about dieting or exercising. After gaining 60 lbs during her first pregnancy in 1998, Rebecca felt she lost a part of herself as her self-esteem plummeted and she didn’t recognize herself in the mirror. Googling on the internet, Rebecca started her research on liposuction and held a “Plastic Surgeon conference” with her-coworkers to find out about their experiences with plastic surgery. During her research online and talking with her friends, Dr. Bruce Fox’s name kept coming up so Rebecca immediately knew who her plastics surgeon was going to be. Rebecca found the Make Me Heal message boards a few months before her surgery and immediately befriended the members in the liposuction boards. She was happy to find such a positive community with members who gave honest and caring advice with a realistic approach to recovery. On July 2nd, 2007 Rebecca had tumescent liposuction of the upper/lower abs, flanks, bra roll, inner/outer thighs, knees, and a touch under her buttocks area, removing approximately 5000 ccs. She has found the recovery process to be easier than expected with more soreness than pain. With the support of her loving family and her friends on the Make Me Heal Liposuction Board, Rebecca has gone through the “Swell Hell” with a positive outlook and can’t wait to fit into smaller clothes.

Rebecca’s advice fr anyone contemplating plastic surgery is:

“Do it, do it, do it!!!! Choose your surgeon wisely, get a support group around you whether it’s family, friends or online. Education is a vital tool for anything you do. The more informed you are the happier you will be.”

Please Join us below for an interview with Rebecca:

Make Me Heal: When did you first have the idea to have your procedure?

Rebecca: Not long after I had my first baby in 1998. I was horrified with the after effects of pregnancy and pre-eclampsia. I gained around 60 lbs which was a lot for my 130lb pre baby body.

Make Me Heal: What were your motivations (physical, emotional, social, etc.) behind your decision to have the procedure(s)?

Rebecca: All my life I was the “skinny girl” who stayed skinny regardless of diet and exercise. In the space of a few short months, I lost part of my identity. I didn’t recognize the image in the mirror. I hated what I saw, what I felt and how it changed my self confidence in so many ways. I hated that I was filled with negativity.

Make Me Heal: How long did it take you to make a decision and was it an easy or difficult one to make?

Rebecca: Easy! For me it was never something I agonized over doing. For me it was agonizing over whether I would be able to afford it and making sure I was happy that my family was complete. I fall pregnant easily and in spite of birth control, so made sure hubby’s tadpole tank got a permanent lock first Then I got an unexpected bonus with my tax return and I made the two fastest phone calls in history! The first was to double check the bonus was correct and the second was to book a consultation!

Make Me Heal: Did your family, friends, and any other people in your close circle give you support, opposition, or did you make this decision without considering them?

Rebecca: Hubby has known for years about my desire for lipo. I was sneaky though and said I might use the money for new boobs! His eyes lit up and said “whatever makes you happy” so I then said “well, in that case I will get lipo instead as that will truly make me happy”!!!! When he dropped me off at the hospital, I wanted to go in alone so he dropped me at the curb yelling out “you don’t have to do this”. But he has been supportive from the word go. My mum was worried about the cost and the fact that I was undergoing surgery. She was a little judgmental at first but I told her if she was going to act like Mrs Judgmental then I would start calling her Mrs Judgmental and would shorten it to Mrs Mental, lol. But she is totally on board now and very encouraging as she sees me slowly change. I only told 3 friends. 2 were awesome and supportive all the way. One was a pain in the proverbial but only I feel through jealousy. Deep down she would like it done but is not likely to be in a position to do it.

Make Me Heal: How did you research the procedure and come to decide on this particular procedure?

Rebecca: Google is your friend!!!! I searched online for years. I bought magazines on surgery. Years ago I organized a Plastic Surgeon conference and got a lot of info from girls I worked with who had procedures done. I narrowed my search over the years to a handful of surgeons and over the past few years, one name kept coming up for all the right reasons. I liked everything I had read and heard about him. To be honest, meeting him was merely a formality as I trusted my research.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss if you used any of Make Me Heal’s resources such as the message boards, pictures library, doctor directory and doctor reviews, and any recovery and preparation products that you used.

Rebecca: I didn’t find MMH until a couple of months before my procedure. I found the lipo message board and just jumped in with both feet!!! Found a wonderful bunch of supportive ladies who just make my day! So much experience and a wealth of knowledge can be found on the message boards. Honestly, I would be a jibbering mess convinced I was deformed if it wasn’t for the lipo board, lol. Lipo is kind of like having a baby! You get all caught up in the wonderful glow of the idea of lipo that you forget all the tears and frustration that go hand in hand with the recovery. You read up on everything but nothing really prepares you for when you get home from the hospital! To me, the lipo board has been what my mother’s group was after I had my baby. A group who are going through what you are going through, who support you, laugh with you , cry with you, empathize with you. I look at the picture gallery all the time. It reassures me to look at someone’s 6 months pics, especially when I am in the middle of swell hell! I didn’t use the doctor directory and related info as I am in Australia so a lot of that info wasn’t relevant. I was provided with a garment by my PS but I will be buying a garment from MMH in the next month as my swelling subsides and my size changes (fingers crossed!!!!).

Make Me Heal: How did you come to choose your doctor?

Rebecca: As I mentioned earlier, I had been researching for years and years. After meeting the surgeon of my choice, it was a done deal. I had no desire to consult with anyone else.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss if you have any role in deciding the type of technique used for your surgery by the doctor, incision placements, implant brand, anesthesia type, etc.

Rebecca: My surgeon is one of the most experienced in Australia in lipo. I trusted that his 20+ years had educated him as to the most effective and safest technique. I was quite happy for him to decide those aspects for me.

Make Me Heal: How did you prepare for the surgery?

Rebecca: Basically, I felt the best preparation I could do was choose the best surgeon for me and follow his advice. He provided a garment that was specifically made for me. He also provided prednisolone which is a steroid that is effective for inflammation when given as a short, sharp dose. I took arnica afterwards but don’t feel it was of much help. I was able to stay overnight at the hospital which I thoroughly recommend. Nothing like having good drugs and a pampering nurse only a buzzer push away, lol! I had foam padding and no drains so didn’t really have to worry about making a mess. I did notice I leaked a little on my sheets so I would recommend those plastic sheets they have in hospital. We call them kylie pads here but not sure what you call them in the US! Doggy pee pads work just as well I’m told!!! I would also recommend wearing a dark cheap tracksuit for traveling. It is winter here so I made sure I had portions of soup in the freezer so I didn’t have to cook much. I also planned my surgery for when my kids were on school holidays so I didn’t have to worry about taking them to school and having their uniforms washed etc. Hubby organized to have a couple of days off work when I came home. I also had my mum on hand if needed. After a couple of days I was pretty much self sufficient though!

Make Me Heal: How were you feeling the night before the surgery and on the moments before the surgery itself?

Rebecca: Oh the nerves!!!!! And the endless what if’s?!!!!!! What if I die, why am I doing this, am I being too vain, am I wasting money and on and on it went until around 3am when I finally dropped off to sleep! I was awake again at 4am and just resigned myself to the inevitable - I was a nervous wreck who wasn’t going to get sleep to just suck it up!!! I ended up taking a long bath and then got ready. I had to be at the hospital at 6.30am so that was a good thing. My kids had an overnight stay at my mum’s house so I just focussed on me, making sure I had what I needed. I also kept up an endless stream of inane chatter in the car with hubby! When I got to the hospital, they checked me in and put me in a hospital gown and put me to bed to keep me warm and relaxed. I was ok once I got there. I became filled with anticipation more than anything. I watched tv for a little while and then my surgeon came to chat to me and to mark me for surgery. At that stage I was feeling excited with a few butterflies.

Make Me Heal: How was the recovery process? Please discuss what side effects you experienced? What were the worse parts of the recovery? Did anyone help you during the recovery?

Rebecca: When I first woke up I was really bummed as I could see a bright light and assumed it was the white light of heaven beckoning!!!!! What a drama queen!!
I then threw up and started shaking violently. I had nausea meds pumped into my iv and a heat blanket put on me. After an hour or so I was fine and taken back to my room where I was staying for the night. I was given morphine for pain although it really wasn’t too awful as long as I didn’t move, lol. I got up later that day to go to the toilet and was very stiff and sore. I made a very undignified attempt at going to the toilet due to being unable to bend much and pee’d all over the floor!!! The nurses decided to bring me a bedpan after that but then I couldn’t maneuver myself properly and ended up peeing the bed too!!!! The next day I was much better! Still stiff and sore but able to go to the toilet like an adult instead of a toddler! I was swollen and bruised and it hurt to lie on the incision wounds but apart from that it was much better than I anticipated. I was kind to my body though and made sure that I got plenty of rest. I stayed in bed for a few days and got up every hour or so just to move the body. I managed without pain pills after a week. I am still early on in the recovery process at 5 weeks and still have major swelling. I exercised a little yesterday and feel like I am day 2 or 3 post-op. The most help I get now with recovery is from the lipo board. Knowing exactly what will and can happen makes the recovery process a whole lot easier. It takes away your stress and gives you that feeling of kinship.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss the pain or discomfort you experienced during the recovery?

Rebecca: It was actually less than I anticipated. I have been hit by a car, had 2 c-sections and a tonsillectomy as an adult so I assumed it was something that would fit into that category I have for major pain! I would have to say that the pain fit in to the stiff and sore category after a couple of days.

Make Me Heal: How well prepared were you for the recovery from physical, emotional, and mental respects? Did you do any research (i.e. online, books, message boards, etc.) to make your recovery smoother?

Rebecca: I learned mostly from the MMH lipo board. Especially the lipo recovery guide. I know exactly what to expect with my recovery and as a result am not freaking out at every little bump on the road to recovery!

Make Me Heal: What are your top recovery tips to other patients?

Rebecca: Patience patience patience! I have to admit that I detest that word and it’s become a swear word in my house but it’s true! Be kind to your body and appreciate that you have put it through a lot of trauma. Trust your body to react to that trauma and then go about healing it. Do what you can to help your body. Read the lipo recovery guide on the lipo message board and accept that the info in there does relate to you, that you are not super human and everything is normal!

Make Me Heal: How long did you take off from work? What did you tell your co-workers about taking this time off? Did anyone notice your cosmetic procedures at work and what did you tell them if they asked about it?

Rebecca: I am a stay at home mum. Nobody saw me for a couple of weeks that I usually see on a regular basis (such as mum’s at school) so I had no explaining to do! I did contemplate telling people I had vain surgery and let them assume I meant vein!!!

Make Me Heal: How happy are you with the results?

Rebecca: So far so good. I am very ,very swollen being only 5 weeks PO, the bruises have gone and the incisions are healing nicely.

Make Me Heal: How has your makeover impacted your life from personal, social, career, and other respects?

Rebecca: I guess I am still just focussing on recovering well and assuming that everything will fall into place when the recovery process is finished. I am starting to fit into clothes better and hubby notices a difference in my shape. I guess, at this stage, I am filled with excited anticipation thanks to the wonderful girls on the lipo board.

Make Me Heal: Would you have done anything differently if you had the chance?

Rebecca: No, I am happy with all my preparation, my choice of surgeon and my timing of the surgery. About the only thing different I would have done is to do a BA at the same time!!! Unfortunately $$$$$$ dictated one or the other!!!!

Make Me Heal: What is your final word of advice to other people considering the procedure you had?

Rebecca: Do it, do it, do it!!!! Choose your surgeon wisely, get a support group around you whether it’s family, friends or online. Education is a vital tool for anything you do. The more informed you are the happier you will be.

Make Me Heal: Was Make Me Heal beneficial to you along your journey?

Rebecca: Absolutely! The girls on the lipo board have been crucial in my recovery. Where else are you going to find a group of buddies who “get it” when you talk about peeing through a crotch hole!!!! You need to be informed and have support when you do such a life changing thing and I am getting that each day on the MMH lipo board.

Priscilla Presley Admits To Botched Plastic Surgery

Posted on March 28th, 2008 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Jet H. Ross

Make Me Heal recently reported on Priscilla Presley’s odd, overdone, and plastic appearance on the show “Dancing With The Stars”, prompting Makemeheal.com to analyze the excessive number of plastic surgery procedures that she had done since the tender age she married Elvis (read the full story on Priscilla Presley’s Plastic Surgery escapades). Apparently, we were not far off the mark. Now, the woman-of-all-trades has openly admitted to having had botched plastic surgery and is looking to undergo corrective surgery to undo her unnaturally plastic look.

Priscilla Presley, Face Lift, Blepharoplasty

Priscilla was among several other women of Hollywood’s elite, including Larry King’s wife, Shawn King and Diane Richie, Lionel’s then-wife, to fall victim to plastic surgeon Dr. Daniel Serrano and his better than Botox injections. Not only is Serrano not licensed to practice in the United States and he was actually injecting the women with low-grade silicon, similar to what is used to lubricate auto parts. Dr. Serrano was convicted of drug smuggling and the conspiracy and use of unapproved drugs. He now faces possible deportation to his native Argentina.

The women treated by Serrano now have bumpy, paralyzed and pitted appearances. But hopefully, corrective surgery will help restore Priscilla to her former glory.

Eliot Spitzer’s Ashley Dupre Escorts Herself to Plastic Surgeon’s Office

Posted on March 26th, 2008 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Jet H. Ross

After the Eliot Spitzer scandal broke, many wondered what the escort girl was doing with the large salary she commanded. Now that we know Ashley Dupre is at the center of the controversy, we can see she spent it on plastic surgery.

Ashley Alexandra Dupre, born Ashley Yeomans and known by a wide variety of aliases, has recently hit her stride as the most notorious call girl in America since the Heidi Fleiss scandal broke years back. Before her newly found fame, Make Me Heal believes that the 22-year old invested in plastic surgery, first with a rhinoplasty to remove the bumpy appearance of her rather prominent facial feature. The result is the current version of Ashley’s nose, as it has appeared in stories about her role in the New York Governor’s resignation. Her nose is much smaller now, free of bumps, the bridge is perfectly arched, and has the round, yet slightly upturned appearance classically associated with a nose job.

Ashley Dupre, Rhinoplasty, Eliot Spitzer

Ashley’s next plastic surgery was to get a breast augmentation. In the pictures of Ashley in a white bikini onboard a boat, she proudly displays full and round breasts with the deep cleavage commonly associated with breast enhancement. Her breasts appear to be unusually pert for such a large size, another giveaway of having had work done. Although her implants are large, they are not too big for her frame, nor do they seem intended to look fake. Plastic surgeon Dr. John Di Sai agrees with Make Me Heal that they are indeed breast implants and thinks their size to be around a C cup.

Ashley Dupre, Breast Augmentation, Implants

If there’s no such thing as bad publicity, then Ashley will soon be openly admitting not only her role in the Spitzer scandal, but also her plastic surgery procedures.

Mariah Carey: Plastic Surgery Squared

Posted on March 21st, 2008 in Black Plastic Surgery, Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Carrie Zender

As Make Me Heal follows Mariah Carey on her latest tour promoting her new album, one can’t help but wonder if the album should have really been called E=MC2 because “PS2” seems to be a more apt name for this serial plastic surgery client. The high-note hitting singer seems to get younger and bustier with each album thanks to multiplying plastic surgery procedures working behind the scenes.

Mariah Carey, Breast Implants, Augmentation

When Mariah Carey first burst on the music scene in the early â€90’s, she was a curvaceous diva, but not nearly as busty as she appears now. Back in the day, Mariah sported a full rack, but her breasts weren’t as round and high as they are currently, leading Make Me Heal to speculate that her breasts haven’t been with her for the duration of her career and are a new item or possibly a second set of breast implants.

Also, the notoriously short-skirt wearing 37-year old singer hasn’t an ounce of cellulite on her thighs, making MakeMeHeal.com wonder if she’s invested in some minimum downtime laser liposuction treatments such as Smartlipo to remove any unwanted fat and reduce the appearance of cellulite on her ample haunches.

Mariah Carey, Rhinoplasty, Chemical Peel

That’s not to mention the incredibly perfect state of Mariah Carey’s skin; in the nearly twenty years that Mariah’s been a celebrity, she’s managed to remain wrinkle-free and ageless. Her wrinkle-free face is likely due to dermal injections such as Botox, Juvederm and laser skin treatments. Additionally, the overall smooth and poreless appearance of her skin is the probable result of multiple chemical peels, and a great skin care regimen. Also, Mariah’s nose appears more refined now when compared to her old flatter nose, leading us to believe that she also had a rhinoplasty (nose job) to slim down her nose and refine the tip.

Mariah Carey, Breast Implants, Rhinoplasty

While the singer is big and round in all the right places, she has a remarkably flat stomach and no extra jiggle on her firm thighs, which could be a result of well-executed liposuctions. Liposuction would also explain Mariah’s habit of rapidly gaining and losing weight through the years.

Renowned plastic surgeon, Dr. Anthony Youn corroborates Make Me Heal’s theories of Mariah Carey’s possible surgeries, saying, “Part of the reason she looks so natural is that she might have been having various moderate procedures over the years, instead of a few huge ones all at once that cause one’s appearance to look unnatural and jolting.” Dr. Youn also estimated that throughout the years, Mariah’s possible plastic surgery and beauty treatments bill has mushroomed to $150,000.

But the singer and sometime actress denies the claims and seems appalled that anyone should think she’s had any work done, reportedly saying, ““One of the rumors I just heard about was that I spent $150,000 in plastic surgery. What in the ham sandwich do they think I did? It’s very annoying.”

Whatever Mariah Carey does to stay young and fit, be it plastic surgery or not, it’s certainly working for her.

Pam Slims Down With a Tummy Tuck

Posted on March 21st, 2008 in Personal Interviews by Makemeheal.com Staff

Tummy Tuck, Pannilectomy, Pictures

See Pam’s Before & After Plastic Surgery Pictures Album.

For the last two years, Pam (username: thenewPamS) has started on a weight loss journey that left her with sagging skin in her abdominal area. The physical discomfort of hanging skin, the difficulty in finding fitting clothes, and personal appearance drove her to start researching the idea of a full tummy tuck. With the support and help of her loving husband, who works at a private hospital, Pam attended a free information session for Dr. Hing in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Impressed with his background and his knowledge of plastic surgery, Pam knew that Dr. Hing was the plastic surgeon for her. Pam’s pre-op waist measurement was 39 inches and hips were 46 inches. Although she is still in the recovery process and still swollen, she has slimmed down to a 37 inch waist and 42 inch hips. Pam is happy with her decision and only wished that she had done a breast lift/augmentation at the same time.

Pam’s advice for anyone contemplating plastic surgery is:

“Make sure you understand the procedure and recovery time. Ask lots of questions. No question is dumb. Research your surgeon and facility.”

Please join us below with the new, slim Pam:

Make Me Heal: When did you first have the idea to have your procedure?

Pam: About 2 years ago, I started losing weight and the skin on belly just starting hanging more & more.

Make Me Heal: What were your motivations (physical, emotional, social, etc.) behind your decision to have the procedure(s)?

Pam: Physical discomfort of hanging skin, difficulty in finding clothes to fit, personal appearance.

Make Me Heal: How long did it take you to make a decision and was it an easy or difficult one to make?

Pam: Easy because of the look and feel of my body. I knew if/when the opportunity presented itself I would go for it.

Make Me Heal: Did your family, friends, and any other people in your close circle give you support, opposition, or did you make this decision without considering them?

Pam: My husband supported my decision but had concerns about major surgery. My 20 year old daughter believes the risk of surgery outweigh positive outcomes. My sisters and mother all supported my decision. I made my decision after consulting my husband only. Told others after decision was made.

Make Me Heal: How did you research the procedure and come to decide on this particular procedure?

Pam: My husband works at a private hospital that offers gastric bypass and reconstructive surgery. He shared resources with me about the nature of the surgery. I also attended a free information session at the hospital and had a free initial consultation with plastic surgeon. Did online research as well.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss if you used any of Make Me Heal’s resources such as the message boards, pictures library, doctor directory and doctor reviews, and any recovery and preparation products that you used.

Pam: I used the message boards, pictures library, glossary of terms.

Make Me Heal: How did you come to choose your doctor?

Pam: I meet with Dr Hing at the free information session. Was impressed with his presentation. He offered a free consultation to meet one on one. At that initial meeting again I was impressed with his knowledge and ability to explain the procedure. After reading his bio I felt completely comfortable with Dr Hing performing my procedure. Because this was covered by insurance I only had 2 doctors to choose from.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss if you have any role in deciding the type of technique used for your surgery by the doctor, incision placements, implant brand, anesthesia type, etc.

Pam: Dr. Hing suggested the inverted t incision. Explained it would give better results. Even though the vertical cut is considered cosmetic, I decided to have it done.

Make Me Heal: How did you prepare for the surgery?

Pam: I explained to my husband and kids that I would be out of commission completely for 2 wks, then limited mobility for up to 6 wks. I thoroughly cleaned my house. I went to Main Dish kitchens and prepared a weeks worth of food. My husband moved a recliner into our bedroom. I purchased easy, simple foods for myself like; jello, popsicles, protein shakes, and crackers.

Make Me Heal: How were you feeling the night before the surgery and on the moments before the surgery itself?

Pam: I was actually feeling very good the night before and morning of surgery. Sunday morning the day before surgery I went to church and had “Annointing of the Sick” after that I felt totally relaxed. I slept really well and woke up ready to go.

Make Me Heal: How was the recovery process? Please discuss what side effects you experienced? What were the worse parts of the recovery? Did anyone help you during the recovery?

Pam: In the recovery room in the hospital I remember feeling very confused about where I was and what was happening. I was also in a lot of pain. Once I became lucid it got better. The worst part of recovery for me was the pain and discomfort. My Husband and 20 year old daughter helped me immensely during recovery.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss the pain or discomfort you experienced during the recovery?

Pam: I can’t describe the pain and discomfort. I just never realized how much you use your abdominals in everyday life. And how immobile you feel without being able to use your abs.

Make Me Heal: How well prepared were you for the recovery from physical, emotional, and mental respects? Did you do any research (i.e. online, books, message boards, etc.) to make your recovery smoother?

Pam: I felt very prepared. After reading the posts on the mmh board I knew going in what to expect. I understood how difficult this surgery could be. I had a good idea of things to do to be prepared for myself, my family and my home.

Make Me Heal: What are your top recovery tips to other patients?

Pam: Be as physically fit as possible, especially your arms, back and leg muscles. Make sure those around understand the intensiveness of this surgery. Have them read some posts and/or meet with your surgeon.

Make Me Heal: How long did you take off from work? What did you tell your co-workers about taking this time off? Did anyone notice your cosmetic procedures at work and what did you tell them if they asked about it?

Pam: Since I work part time out of my home and am self employed, I was able to take off 4wks. Anyone that I worked closely with in my volunteer work I explained what I was doing. Yes, people have noticed, but being winter time with baggy coats and sweaters not to many. If someone notices and asks I say thank you and leave it there unless they ask then I tell them. I don’t hide it but I don’t feel the need to tell everyone.

Make Me Heal: How happy are you with the results?

Pam: I am extremely happy. If my body stays like it is now I am thrilled, but I am told the swelling will go down and I will be flatter. Then I will be ecstatic. I can’t wait to get back to working out and improving myself even more.

Make Me Heal: How has your makeover impacted your life from personal, social, career, and other respects?

Pam: I am still recovering, but I already feel more confident. I know I will be strong when exercising without having the gut hanging. I will feel better being physically active because of the new found confidence. I can’t wait to shop for clothes that aren’t super baggy.

Make Me Heal: Would you have done anything differently if you had the chance?

Pam: I would have considered a BL/BA at the same time. I don’t think I will go back under the knife again.

Make Me Heal: What is your final word of advice to other people considering the procedure you had?

Pam: Make sure you understand the procedure and recovery time. Ask lots of questions. No question is dumb. Research your surgeon and facility.

Make Me Heal: Was Make Me Heal beneficial to you along your journey?

Pam: Yes, MMH was extremely beneficial. MMH members are honest, supportive and knowledgeable. The MMH website is full of useful information.

Priscilla Presley’s Dancing With Plastic Surgery

Posted on March 20th, 2008 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Sam Stets

Priscilla Presley will not only be swiveling her hips on the new season of Dancing with the Stars, as the widow of Elvis and the mother of recently pregnant Marie Presley will also be shaking a few plastic surgery enhanced assets.

Priscilla is no stranger to plastic surgery and over the course of her 62-years she has gone through numerous cosmetic procedures to keep her stunning appearance looking fresh for all her endeavors.

Priscilla Presley, Face Lift, Blepharoplasty

The entrepreneurial Priscilla appears to have gotten a lower facelift, as evidenced by unusually tight jaw and the lack of sagging in her neck. For someone her age, a slack jaw and loose skin typically adorn the neck and jaw. Moreover, Priscilla Presley’s eyes are extremely youthful, wide open, and she has no under eye bags, leading us to believe that she had a blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery). She’s also had other operations throughout the years, as her skin is relatively wrinkle-free for a woman of her age, with no forehead wrinkles or laugh lines. These age-defying traits are indicative of dermal fillers such as Botox and Restylane, and could also be the result of a browlift (forehead lift). Moreover, Priscilla’s nose is as chiseled and upright as ever, with a very sharp tip, which is probably the result of a rhinoplasty in the past and a potential second nose job to keep her tip from sliding down due to gravity. Further, Priscilla’s cheeks are particularly plump, pointing to the possibility of cheek implants. Along with these cosmetic surgeries, Priscilla has probably gotten laser skin procedures, chemical peels, and dermabrasion to keep her skin youthful.

Unfortunately, the cocktail of cosmetic procedures has left Priscilla Presley looking extremely overdone, even more so than in her pancake make-up youth. Moreover, her skin has a strange color to it and her unique traits have been washed away by the scalpel. Nonetheless, she is still an attractive woman, although she should watch herself before she gets into Michael Jackson territory.

Priscilla seems to have passed her yen for youth onto her daughter, Lisa Marie who exhibits her father’s signature lip curl with fuller lips than the King did.

Make Me Heal hopes the Dancing with the Stars judges won’t be cruel and judge Priscilla on her footwork, not her facework.

Kelly Rowland’s Breast Implants

Posted on March 14th, 2008 in Black Plastic Surgery, Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Jet H. Ross

Kelly Rowland, Breast Implants, Augmentation

Last year, Make Me Heal reported that Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland had followed her singing sister Beyonce into the plastic surgeon’s office and gotten a rhinoplasty, reducing the size of her nose (read about Kelly Rowland’s Nose Job). Now, she has admitted to increasing an area further below the neck.

Saying she wanted to better fit into the Knowles’ family clothing line, House of Dereon, Kelly Rowland has come out with her breast augmentation, boosting up from an A cup to an elegant B size.

Make Me Heal applauds the fact that Kelly didn’t go overboard with her augmentation, as her thin frame would make larger implants look fake. The singe herself told People, “I didn’t want to have double Ds and be a little bitty size 2 — that would look nuts!” Fans have also applauded her decision to go for a more natural look, as well as speak publicly about her implants.

On his blog, plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn reports, “She looks great. The breasts fit her tiny frame well. Breast augmentation is the most common surgery that I do, with the most popular size jump from an A to a C. Next most common is B –> C, followed by A –> B, then B/C –> D.”

Not a stranger to plastic surgery, Kelly had a nose job before which slimmed down her nose, narrowed the bridge, and resulted in a tip that is smaller and more projected out. Kelly Rowland also redid her teeth with tooth veneers.

Make Me Heal has speculated before about Kelly’s possible augmentation and we’re happy that Kelly put the speculations to rest and let the truth be known. We can look forward to seeing Kelly filling out her tops as she promotes her new album and hit single.

Jessica’s Experience with Tumescent Liposuction

Posted on March 14th, 2008 in Personal Interviews by Makemeheal.com Staff

Liposuction, Tumescent, Pictures, Photos

See Jessica’s Before & After Plastic Surgery Pictures Album.

22 year-old Jessica (username: jemsplace), a cheerleader and gymnast with an athletic build, found that any extra weight she gained went straight to her thighs. Thoroughly frustrated with buying size 7-9 jeans that were too loose for her tiny size 3 waist, Jessica started researching the possibility of having a liposuction. Through her research online and visiting the Make Me Heal Message Boards, Jessica realized the vast improvements the plastic surgery field has made and found that liposuction seemed a relatively simple and safe procedure for her. Jessica researched her options for a plastic surgeon and was impressed by the honesty and skill of her plastic surgeon, Dr. Hall in Scottsdale, Arizona. In February of 2008, she had tumescent liposuction on the inner and outer thighs as well as the love handles. Prepared by interacting with the members on the Liposuction Message Boards and buying her recovery essentials in advance, Jessica has breezed through her recovery by staying positive. She is thrilled with her results and has already lost two inches off of each thigh and an inch and a half off her love handles.

Jessica’s advice for anyone contemplating plastic surgery is:

“My final advice would be to make sure you do your research ahead of time, and make sure you look up your doctor as well. Verify his credentials and work history, just to be safe. After that, remember that a procedure like liposuction, or any other enhancement for that matter, needs to be something you do for yourself, not anyone else. The results will be worth it.”

Please join us below for an interview with Jessica:

Make Me Heal: When did you first have the idea to have your procedure?

Jessica: I began to seriously look at options to enhance my body about a year ago. I had researched several doctors in the Phoenix area, and decided to visit Dr. Hall in the beginning of December. I was already impressed with his website, and was even more impressed once I met him in person. I booked my appointment later that day for late February.

Make Me Heal: What were your motivations (physical, emotional, social, etc.) behind your decision to have the procedure(s)?

Jessica: I had always been an athletic girl growing up, I participated in cheerleading and gymnastics for 6 years and track for 4 years. From the activities I was involved in, I built a muscular body, but as I got older I found whatever weight I put on liked to go right to my thighs. I always had a difficult time finding pants that fit nice, especially jeans. I started to get extremely frustrated in the last 3 years though because my waist was a 3, but I would have to buy jeans that were 7-9’s. Any pants I did buy were extremely big in the waist and very long, but still tight across my thighs. I also was self conscious when I would go out with my friends because I felt like I was larger than them, and they would always be exchanging clothes that they could all wear, and I couldn’t fit into them. I was tired of feeling like this and wanted to give myself a better proportioned body and boost my self esteem and confidence.

Make Me Heal: How long did it take you to make a decision and was it an easy or difficult one to make?

Jessica: It took me a little over a year to make my final decision to have liposuction, and it took some serious self persuasion. Before I started researching liposuction seriously, I had horrible perceptions of the procedure. I guess I was stuck on the characteristics of the surgery from years ago when it was a bit more dangerous and had a long recovery. I remember at one point in my past saying I would never have any sort of cosmetic surgery. I was able to get past those thoughts though because through my research I discovered the procedure had made exceptional improvements over the years, and now seemed pretty simple and safe. It also helped that I found the Make Me Heal site and was able to read real life experiences of other women and men who were experiencing the same thing I was considering to do.

Make Me Heal: Did your family, friends, and any other people in your close circle give you support, opposition, or did you make this decision without considering them?

Jessica: I actually made my decision to have liposuction without telling any of my family or friends. I had considered telling some friends, but decided that I was making my choice for myself and I did not want the added stress of their critiques. I know if I told my mom she would be supportive as she has gone through two breast augmentations, but she is at a point in her life where she is dealing with bigger stresses in life and I did not feel it was an appropriate time to bring the subject up. I can see myself telling her in the future though. My dad though…I am not sure what his reaction would be. I think now that it is done and over he would give support, but if I told him before I had the procedure he would have done everything he could to change my mind.

Make Me Heal: How did you research the procedure and come to decide on this particular procedure?

Jessica: To research the liposuction procedure, I found the majority of my information online. I would come home from work and spend hours and hours finding websites on current techniques, looking at potential doctors, looking at doctor’s medical histories, and looking for real life stories of people who have experienced liposuction. I ultimately decided on the tumescent technique because I like that I would be awake during the procedure, and that the technique helped reduce bruising and recovery time. I was exceptionally impressed with Dr. Hall’s website because he provided a lot of information about the procedure, and made comparisons to the traditional technique. I found too that the information he provided was consistent with other sites, so he wasn’t trying to make false claims.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss if you used any of Make Me Heal’s resources such as the message boards, pictures library, doctor directory and doctor reviews, and any recovery and preparation products that you used.

Jessica: Oh my goodness, yes!! The Make Me Heal’s site was one of the best resources I could find on the web. The message boards were (and still are) excellent sources of information, since all the people participating have experienced the procedure themselves, so they know first hand what will happen. I was able to comfortably ask questions and received excellent support from all. The picture library was another great resource since I was able to look at real results of real people without having to worry if a doctor was touching up his results to look better or something like that. I also ordered the Vita Medica Pre and Post Op Vitamins, Bromelain and Arnica Montana and think that they tremendously assisted me with minimal bruising and swelling and led me to a quicker recovery.

Make Me Heal: How did you come to choose your doctor?

Jessica: I decided to have Dr. Hall do my procedure based on his informative webpage, and his excellent presence in person. I also had heard from some other people that he was an excellent doctor. I was impressed that Dr. Hall was very straight forward with me and I did not feel as if he was pressuring me to do anything I didn’t want to. He answered all my questions and did not just tell me things I wanted to hear. He was actually my one and only consultation.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss if you have any role in deciding the type of technique used for your surgery by the doctor, incision placements, implant brand, anesthesia type, etc.

Jessica: I did not have a role in deciding to use the tumescent technique other than the fact that that is the only procedure Dr. Hall uses. He does have some other equipment in his facility that he explained was if the tumescent technique wasn’t able to provide the ultimate results, but I went to Dr. Hall because it was the tumescent technique I was wanting.

Make Me Heal: How did you prepare for the surgery?

Jessica: Preparation for surgery was something I took very seriously. After booking my appointment I had a lot to do! I had to arrange my time off at work, and also a ride to and from the doctor’s office. I ordered the Vita Medica Pre and Post Op Vitamins, Bromelain and Arnica from MMH, and began taking the vitamins two weeks before my procedure. I filled all my prescriptions about two weeks before my procedure as well, and was sure to get my blood work and physical done as well. A couple days before my surgery I went grocery shopping and bought enough food to get me through about two weeks. I made sure to include lots of fruits and vegetables, and avoided foods with too much sodium. I also bought a lot of liquids to stay hydrated. I bought some extra pads for when I would be leaking the first day or so, and extra pillows so I could prop my feet up. The day before surgery I paid all my bills, cleaned my house and did laundry. I also bought some magazines, and rented some movies so I wouldn’t get too bored while I was sitting around. I wanted to make sure I had everything done so there was nothing I had to do right after surgery except relax. I also took my own pre-op photos so I could track my progress.

Make Me Heal: How were you feeling the night before the surgery and on the moments before the surgery itself?

Jessica: I was extremely excited the night before surgery. Once I was at the doctor’s office waiting, I started to become anxious since I had never had any kind of surgery before. I did my research, but still in a way did not know exactly what to expect. I was never fearful, just mostly excited. The nurses were extremely friendly and helpful before the procedure to get me ready and relaxed, I was feeling good as I was in the operating room.

Make Me Heal: How was the recovery process? Please discuss what side effects you experienced? What were the worse parts of the recovery? Did anyone help you during the recovery?

Jessica: During my recovery, I was by myself. Overall all process was very manageable. After I got home from surgery, I felt fine as I still was on some pain meds and had some anesthetic fluid still numbing my treated areas. I was kind of uncomfortable in my garment since I had all the padding to absorb the leakage, but I could deal with it. At about 2am I had to change my padding as it was full of fluid, and it was at this time I experienced extreme light headedness. I had to lay on the cold bathroom floor to get back to normal, but honestly this feeling was worse than any part of the actual procedure. After that I was fine, and the next day is when the soreness set in. I only had to take one pain killer the night of my surgery, and after that I only took Tylenol. I was able to lightly massage the treated area to push out any remaining fluid, and I stopped draining at about 36-48 hours. I was in no pain while sitting/laying, and it was just like an extreme soreness after an intense workout when I tried to stand up and walk. At the three day mark, I was only sore when getting up, but once walking around I was fine. I experienced mild-moderate swelling in my trunk area the first couple days, and then it was only mild until about day 7-8, then I had some real swelling in my lower legs and ankles, which lasted two days. Since then I have swelled off and on, but very mildly. All numbness I felt in my treated areas was gone at about 10 days, and I was able to stop wearing my garment at 11 days. The soreness dissipated around day 12 and now I only occasionally feel tight. I now wear some compression pantyhose which feel great. I started to develop the hard spots around day nine, but they don’t bother me and I have been massaging them. All my bruising has been fading nicely (I only bruised some in my inner thighs) and is just about gone at 15 days.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss the pain or discomfort you experienced during the recovery?

Jessica: During my recovery I never really experienced any pain, just some discomfort with the soreness like I explained in the previous question. There were a couple days that I did have a strange feeling like my skin was sticking to my treated area and it was not able to stretch like it should when standing, but that feeling did disappear. I think it was just part of the healing process.

Make Me Heal: How well prepared were you for the recovery from physical, emotional, and mental respects? Did you do any research (i.e. online, books, message boards, etc.) to make your recovery smoother?

Jessica: Just as I had done research before my surgery, I did research for the post-op effects. The MMH message boards were incredibly helpful, and I feel like I was well prepared. I have been lucky and have only felt positive about my procedure, as I know it is possible to feel some depression. I just feel blessed that I was able to do something to better my self image and that my results have been great.

Make Me Heal: What are your top recovery tips to other patients?

Jessica: One thing to keep in mind is that all people have different recoveries. I have learned from my experience and others on MMH that many factors affect recovery, like genetics, the selected procedure, and amount removed for example. My tips for recovery would be to be patient, and know that there will be ups and downs before the final result will be seen.

Make Me Heal: How long did you take off from work? What did you tell your co-workers about taking this time off? Did anyone notice your cosmetic procedures at work and what did you tell them if they asked about it?

Jessica: For my procedure, I took three days off of work. My procedure was on a Thursday, so I took that day, Friday, and the following Monday off. I think it was the perfect amount of time to take it easy and I was ready to go back that Tuesday. My co-workers thought I was out of town for the weekend visiting family out of state. No one noticed my procedure when I got back, except I was walking very stiff, so I told them I had slipped on the ice and was really sore. I was lucky and able to fit into all my pre-clothes even in my garment. Once I got out of my garment and into some compression panty-hose around day 9, my boss did make a comment that I looked smaller. I was really happy to hear this, but didn’t tell him I had liposuction.

Make Me Heal: How happy are you with the results?

Jessica: I am really happy with my results so far, I can already see a visual difference and the tape measure is showing me excellent numbers as well. I can’t wait for a couple months out as it gets even better. So far I have lost two inches off of each thigh, and an inch and a half off my love handles. My clothes fit looser and I feel great.

Make Me Heal: How has your makeover impacted your life from personal, social, career, and other respects?

Jessica: I am only a little over two weeks post op right now, so I can only imagine the impact this procedure will have on me in my future. So far though, I feel more confident, and I know this will reflect in all aspects of my life.

Make Me Heal: Would you have done anything differently if you had the chance?

Jessica: No, I don’t feel that I would. I am happy with my decision to have liposuction, and in a way wish I would have done it sooner!

Make Me Heal: What is your final word of advice to other people considering the procedure you had?

Jessica: My final advice would be to make sure you do your research ahead of time, and make sure you look up your doctor as well. Verify his credentials and work history, just to be safe. After that, remember that a procedure like liposuction, or any other enhancement for that matter, needs to be something you do for yourself, not anyone else. The results will be worth it.

Make Me Heal: Was Make Me Heal beneficial to you along your journey?

Jessica: Yes, this site was outstanding. After I found the MMH boards, I was hooked. I was able to interact with so many experienced individuals and get great first hand knowledge from those who have experienced the same thing as me. I am so grateful for this site, and still visit it everyday.
