Lady GaGa’s Plastic Surgery

Posted on January 30th, 2009 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Ruby Marr

Lady GaGa is an upcoming pop singer better known for her outlandish appearance than her musical skills. As Lady GaGa’s career takes off, Make Me Heal takes a look at her plastic surgery.

Lady GaGa, Plastic Surgery

22-year old Lady GaGa, whose real name is Joanne Stefani Germanotta is often compared to Christina Aguilera because of her bold lips and platinum blonde locks. But it sees that the pop singers may have more in common than just a love of music and hair bleach. They have both been under the knife (See Make Me Heal’s story on Christina Aguillera’s plastic surgery).

Lady GaGa is very fond of showing off her body, including her cleavage. Often pop-singers invest in a breast augmentation to better fill out the skimpy tops they prefer to wear and Lady GaGa is probably no exception.

According to plastic surgeon Dr. John Di Saia, Lady GaGa probably has breast implants.

Lady Gaga, Plastic Surgery

Also, many that have followed Lady GaGa have noticed the drastic change in the size and shape of her nose, indicating a definite rhinoplasty. Lady GaGa used to have a large, hooked nose and now it is much smaller, albeit the tip is rather pinched looking.

Dr. Paul S. Nassif, a Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Rhinoplasty Specialist in Beverly Hills, Calif., said, “Lady GaGa definitely had a rhinoplasty. It looks a little pinched, but not bad.”

Make Me Heal looks forward to Lady Gaga’s public appearances, because like her popstar predecessors, she always has something crazy going on.

Did Whitney Port Get Breast Implants?

Posted on January 30th, 2009 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Rachelle Farnsworth

Ever since one of the stars of The Hills and star of her own reality show, The City, Whitney Port, showed a little too much skin while on vacation, blogs have been buzzing as to whether or not Whitney has had any plastic surgery to boost her breasts.

Whitney Port, Breast Implants

If Whitney has had a breast augmentation, she wouldn’t be the first girl on The Hills to get a bigger bust, with many of the revolving cast having plastic surgery (See Make Me Heal’s story on the cast of The Hills’ Plastic surgery), most notably Audrina Partridge (See Make Me Heal’s story on Audrina Partridge’s breast augmentation).

However it appears that the 23-year old leggy blonde hasn’t yet been under the knife. The star of The City has natural breasts.

Plastic surgeon Dr. John Di Saia notes, “They look too small to be implanted.”

Plastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer Walden agrees, telling Make Me Heal, “It doesn’t appear as though Whitney Port has had any sort of breast implant surgery as she appears to have a very natural look to her breasts with little upper pole fullness, and a bit of glandular ptosis, which just means they fall naturally.”

Whitney Port, Plastic Surgery

It seems that Whitney and Lauren are the only girls of The Hills to be sporting the natural look as Heidi Montag and her sort-of sister-in-law Stephanie Pratt both have oversized implants. (See Make Me Heal’s story on Heidi Montag’s plastic surgery and Make Me Heal’s story on Stephanie Pratt’s breast implants).

Unlike many stars who seem only too happy to show off their private parts, Whitney apologized for her slip on her blog.

Breast implants or not, Make Me Heal looks forward to watching Whitney have her own adventures as she takes on The City.

Kate Moss’ Nose Job Past

Posted on January 28th, 2009 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Lisa Stern

Kate Moss may still be setting fashion trends, but her nose job hasn’t earned her the approval of plastic surgeons. Make Me Heal explores the skinny supermodel’s plastic surgery past.

35-year old Kate has a very different nose from the one she had in her youth. Although she used to have a very wide and round nose, her new nose is narrower and has a more pronounced tip. Although Kate’s nose has appeared on countless magazine covers, it seems that her rhinoplasty was not a very good one, as it has left her with an indentation on the side.

Kate Moss, Nose Job

(Left: Before, Right: After)

Dr. Paul S. Nassif, a Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Rhinoplasty Specialist in Beverly Hills, Calif., said, “Kate has a poor nose job. She does have a tip indentation from an over-aggressive rhinoplasty. She needs the indentation repaired.”

Plastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer L. Walden agrees that Kate has clearly had a rhinoplasty, saying, “It seems as though Kate Moss’s nose has changed throughout the years as her nose does not appear as wide or flattened as it used to be when she was a child. This is likely due to a rhinoplasty.  It serves to mention that on more recent photos she demonstrates that she has external valve (or simply put, nostril) collapse with inspiration.”

Dr. Walden also notes that although Kate’s nasal indentation may not be a result of the nose job, but could also be the result of drug use and Kate is a notorious former drug user. Dr Walden says, “This unfortunate look can be due to an overzealous nasal surgery but also can be seen with long-term use of recreational drugs that are inhaled through the nose.”

In the past, Kate has spoken out against breast augmentations, but she hasn’t said anything about her feelings on nose jobs (See Make Me Heal’s story on Kate Moss’ plastic surgery).

Make Me Heal hopes that Kate takes the doctors advice and gets her nose revised, whether or not the collapse was due to drug use or a bad nose job.

Did Gwyneth Paltrow Get Breast Implants?

Posted on January 27th, 2009 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Lisa Stanfield

Whenever a star’s bust fluctuates, it becomes the center of controversy to see whether or not plastic surgery was involved in the enhancement. So when pictures of a nude Gwyneth appeared on the net, Make Me Heal wanted to see if the new rumors of a breast augmentation were true.

In the past, 36-year old Gwyneth has appeared on red carpets looking waifish, with a thin frame and not much of a bust. But after giving birth to two children, Gwyneth’s widely publicized remarks about the new state of her figure gave fans hope that Gwyneth would one day have a bust.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Plastic Surgery

After having children, Gwyneth said, “I think women who have breastfed understand what I’m saying - that if you get a boob job it’s more reconstructive surgery, actually, than cosmetic surgery.”

Although Gwyneth has complained about the state of her breasts in the past (See Make Me Heal’s story on Gwyneth Paltrow’s plastic surgery), it doesn’t seem like she has any reason to.

Nude stills of the upcoming film, Two Lovers, reveal that Gwyneth has small but perfectly shaped breasts that don’t seem to have been augmented.

Plastic surgeon Dr. John Di Saia tells Make Me Heal, “From what I can see she probably does not yet have implants.”

It seems that Gwyneth has exaggerated the sagginess of her breasts and Make Me Heal looks forward to seeing how good or bad they look once the film is released.

No More Plastic Surgery For Mickey Rourke

The recent film The Wrestler was a big hit with critics and viewers alike, earning the two big names in the big picture, Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei, Oscar nominations. Make Me Heal takes a look back at the unlikely pair’s plastic surgery and also looks ahead to see what could be done to help their looks in the future.

Mickey Rourke, Plastic Surgery

(Left: Before, Right: After)

Before becoming an actor, 52-year old Mickey Rourke was a boxer. Since changing careers, Mickey has also changed his face, becoming a notorious example of bad plastic surgery. In the past, Mickey has had several procedures, including at least one overly tight facelift, possible chin, cheek and lower lip implants and possible multiple nose jobs, in part to correct damage from his boxing past. (See Make Me Heal’s story on Mickey Rourke’s bad plastic surgery).

Although his appearance contrasts sharply with that of most handsome leading men, Mickey managed to perform well enough in The Wrestler to win a Golden Globe and be nominated for an Oscar in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role category.

To help improve his looks for his upcoming roles, including Iron Man 2, coming next year, Make Me Heal asked plastic surgeons how Mickey could best improve his botched plastic surgeries.

Plastic surgeon Dr. Sherrell J. Aston says, “Mickey Rourke did a terrific job in The Wrestler. He should use some of his best wrestling holds on anyone who comes near him for any cosmetic procedure for the foreseeable future including injectables of all kinds.”

Dr. Paul S. Nassif, a Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Rhinoplasty Specialist in Beverly Hills, Calif., said, “Obviously, Mickey Rourke looks as if he is overdone and stretched. He probably had cheek implants, face lift, brow lift, upper blepharoplasty and lip fillers, possibly something permanent.”

“It is difficult to reverse any of this, except to put in smaller cheek implants or remove and revise the facelift to change the vector of pull so that it’s not so surgical. However, the eyes and lips can’t be reversed.”

Make Me Heal congratulates both Mickey and Marisa on their nominations and looks forward to seeing the beauty and the beast at the Oscars ceremony next month.

Marisa Tomei’s Plastic Surgery Future

Posted on January 23rd, 2009 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Oscars Plastic Surgery, Award Shows by Ellen Huggins

The recent film The Wrestler left Make Me Heal gaping at the difference in the main stars’ appearances. While Mickey Rourke’s plastic surgery has left him with a strange appearance, Marisa Tomei still looks amazing in her forties.

Marisa Tomei, Mickey Rourke, Plastic Surgery

While Mickey is beastly, his costar, 44-year old Marisa Tomei is a definite beauty. In the past, Make Me Heal has reported on Marisa’s lack of obvious plastic surgery and amazing genes, but that doesn’t mean the Oscar-winning actress can’t be improved with a few nips and tucks. (See Make Me Heal’s previous story on Marisa Tomei’s plastic surgery).

Marisa Tomei, Rhinoplasty

Nominated for her third Oscar in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role category, for her next role and walk down the red carpet, Marisa may want to consider adding to her already youthful appearance with some careful plastic surgery.

Dr. Aston recommends, “Marisa Tomei is now 44 years old but she has aged very well. Great genes and anatomy! Although she looks very good overall she would benefit from a upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty. There is a little jawline laxity and some early neck laxity but she can wait on facelifting. Her forehead is pretty smooth so she may have had a little Botox. She should stay away from all fillers at this time as the downside is as great as the upside for her.”

Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Expert Dr. Paul S. Nassif also noted the problems around Marisa’s eyes. He says, “Marisa is very pretty. To elevate her brows and show more eyelid skin, Botox around the crow’s feet region and under her eyebrow for a botox brow lift. Also some hyalauronic acid to her lips. That should be it to highlight her face.”

Make Me Heal looks forward to seeing whether or not Marisa will get her second Oscar next month.

Kate Winslet’s Winning Plastic Surgery

Posted on January 21st, 2009 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Dana Jackson

As the award season prepares to launch into full swing, Make Me Heal looks forward to spotting plastic surgery as it parades down the red carpet. First on the list is favored actress Kate Winslet.

Kate Winslet, Nose Job

34-year old Kate has already been nominated for 5 Oscars in the past and will likely pick up another nomination for her recent work in this year’s Revolutionary Road or The Reader, for which she won the recent Golden Globe.

In the past, Kate has said that she is adamantly against plastic surgery and then changed her view and blamed it on her husband, director Sam Mendes. Kate said, “I am intrigued by surgery but Sam would leave me if I did anything like that.” But Make Me Heal, and others, have long suspected that Kate is more than intrigued and has actually been under the knife.

Photos of Kate earlier in her career seem to have a slightly larger nose. More recently, Kate’s nose appears to have slimmed down. Although Kate has recently lost weight, the change in the size of her nose is likely the result of a rhinoplasty. The nose job was well-done, giving Kate’s face a much slimmer, sophisticated appearance.

“In some photos, it looks like Kate Winslet’s nasal dorsum is narrower due to osteotomies (narrowing nasal bones). Her nostrils are less wide and her tip looks a little pinched. Overall, looks like she might have had a conservative rhinoplasty,” said Dr. Paul S. Nassif, Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at Spalding Drive Cosmetic Surgery.

“In other photos, it looks like she has some more of her eyelids showing, which would be a sign of a possible upper blepharoplasty. Overall, she looks great,” said Dr. Nassif.

More recently, the actress recently lost her notoriously buxom figure, saying it was due to Pilates, but it could also be some conservative body contouring procedures. As the weight loss affected her entire body, from head to toe, it likely was due to hard work rather than plastic surgery.

Plastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer Walden tells Make Me Heal, “It looks as if Kate Winslet has had a nicely done rhinoplasty in the past that narrowed the nose and made the tip more refined. She seems in recent photos to have a cleaner, more well-defined sulcus of her upper lid area, so she may have even undergone and eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) in the past.  There is no doubt that Kate is absolutely stunning in her recent Vanity Fair spread, and this is somewhat attributed to the fact that she has maintained a healthy appearance and has lost some weight (not too excessive), which can also be seen in her face.”

On the other hand, plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn says, “I really don’t see any change, except what one would see with typical aging.  No obvious plastic surgery on her face!”

Whatever work Kate has or hasn’t had done, she is sure to look wonderful on the red carpet in February.

Tom Cruise’s New Plastic Surgery Look

Posted on January 16th, 2009 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Carrie Zender

As Tom Cruise ages he seems to grow younger with each year. After his latest film Valkyrie hit theatres and he and wife Katie Holmes hit the red carpet, Make Me Heal noticed that the Top Gun star looked more refreshed than he had in yeas, leading us to suspect plastic surgery.

Tom Cruise, Plastic Surgery

In the past, Make Me Heal has noted changes in the size and shape of 46-year old Tom’s nose.

Plastic surgeon Dr. John Di Saia says, “I’ve seen images of him as a younger man. He seems to have had a nose or two.”

Tom Cruise, Plastic Surgery

For a while, Tom was also starting to look his age, tired with sunken eyes and some wrinkling. But now he appears to be much more refreshed and have a strikingly good complexion.

His newly youthful and refreshed appearance is a sign of rejuvenation procedures like fillers and also laser skin treatments like Fraxel or CoolTouch.

Laser treatments and fillers tend to have little recovery, allowing busy stars to make public appearances without any suspicious time lapses.

Tom’s plastic surgery seems to rub off the women in his life as well. Tom’s current wife, 30-year old Katie Holmes also has a rhinoplasty in her past (See Make Me Heal’s story on Katie Holmes’ plastic surgery) as does his ex-wife Nicole Kidman, a notorious fan of the Botox needle and knife (See Make Me Heal’s story on Nicole Kidman’s plastic surgery).

Perhaps they have all shared the same surgeon, the results of all three have been very natural and conservative.

Top 9 Plastic Surgery Predictions For 2009

Posted on January 7th, 2009 in Plastic Surgeon Articles & Interviews, Procedures & Breakthroughs by Makemeheal.com Staff

By Anthony Youn, MD

As a cosmetic plastic surgeon, I often have patients ask me what’s the latest on the horizon in the field of plastic surgery. Are there procedures that they should save for? In the near future will there be cheaper and easier ways to change their look than what we are currently doing now?

Here are my Top 9 Plastic Surgery Predictions for 2009:

#9. Plastic Surgery Vacations will become more and more popular. As our country falls into recession, greater and greater numbers of people will save money by combining plastic surgery and vacations. Americans will travel to Mexico, Brazil, and even India in an attempt to save money and look better. I predict that this trend will unfortunately bring about an unprecedented number of disturbing complications, as people bring their botched results back to the U.S. for American plastic surgeons to treat. The lucky ones, however, will come back looking both rested AND younger.

#8. Fat, from both from animals and people, will become a new Green resource. There are reports that a renegade Beverly Hills radiologist used liposuction fat to power his SUV to work each day. While this is an extreme example, I do believe that the work on Biofuels will continue, with liposuction fat on the periphery of this trend. No, I don’t plan on ever doing this.

#7. Sculptra will gain FDA approval as a liquid facelift for the general population. With the realization that facial volume loss is an integral component of the aging process, Sculptra treatments may take center stage in the fight against facial gauntness. Sculptra is currently only FDA-approved for treatment of HIV-associated facial wasting, but has been used in Europe for many years under the name Newfill. It is currently the only injectable filler that can produce generalized volume replacement in the face without excessive cost.

#6. 2009 will bring with it a plethora of new extreme, bizarre, and unusual plastic surgeries. 2008 brought us such plastic surgery oddities as cosmetic leg lengthening, the G Shot, the Boob Jab, and the Acupuncture Facelift. I expect fringe medical practitioners to do the same in 2009. Can we expect to see actual rib removal to thin the body, removal of the omentum (fat around the intestines) to decrease a protuberant tummy, or tummy tucks performed at the time of C-sections? Not by me!

#5. Will Gummy Bear Implants Boost Busts in 2009? In November 2006 the FDA lifted the ban on silicone gel implants. Since then plastic surgeons and patients in the know have been waiting for FDA approval of the form-stable, “gummy bear” breast implants, the only silicone breast implants that did not receive approval two years ago. These firm, textured, tear-drop shaped implants are made to retain their shape and not conform to the shape of surrounding tissues. They are already in widespread use throughout many other countries in the world. Will the FDA approve these implants for general cosmetic use in 2009? Thousands of plastic surgeons and patients hope so.

#4: Nonsurgical Liposuction Techniques Run Rampant… As Do Disappointing Results. One of the hottest procedures today is nonsurgical liposuction. Cosmetic practices throughout the country are advertising fat reduction via injections, external lasers, external ultrasound, and even by freezing the fat (called cryolipolysis). While these techniques sound intriguing, none have actually been proven to safely work…yet. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) is currently conducting an FDA-approved study on Lipodissolve, with the initial results due in the near future. While the only proven way to safely and effectively remove fat is via liposuction, 2009 may bring considerable advances to some of these, so far, unproven modalities. I expect that most will fall by the wayside, although a few may be proven to safely work.

#3: Eyelash Enhancing Medication “Latisse” Hits Big in a Blink. Recently an FDA advisory panel recommended approval for this eyelash stimulating medication from Allergan, the makers of Botox. Peak sales are estimated to reach $500 million, as this treatment will be a one of a kind. I expect Allergan will see huge profits from this topical medication, as will the physicians that dispense it. And people will walk around with Tammy Faye Baker eyes…

#2: Stem Cells are the Future in the U.S., but the Present in Other Countries. Stem cells are currently all the rage in potentially curing cancers, developmental abnormalities, and other medical problems… but are they the future for plastic surgery as well? Actually, stem cells are currently being used by some pioneering (and possibly reckless) surgeons outside the U.S. Dr. Vincent Giampapa introduced a stem cell facelift in France back in October and a handful of surgeons are performing breast enhancement with stem cells in Japan and Europe. So will we see stem cells being used by plastic surgeons in the U.S. in 2009? Not likely. The FDA is cautious with allowing procedures like these to be performed here in the States, and with good reason. Scientists need to prove that the use of stem cells for indications like these is safe and effective before allowing patients to undergo it. Until then, Americans will need to travel abroad for these extremely controversial treatments.

#1: Botox-Competitor Reloxin will act as an Economic Bailout for Millions of Botox Users in 2009. FDA approval for Medicis’s cosmetic botulinum toxin Reloxin is expected sometime in the new year. This may prove to be a relief to patients and plastic surgeons who have been forced to buy Botox at increasing prices each year. I currently charge my patients $650 for Botox injections to three areas, and the price of the Botox product itself accounts for at least half of that charge. Reloxin will be the first legitimate Botox competitor to challenge Allergan’s monopoly on this market, and hopefully bring prices down for the most popular cosmetic treatment in the U.S. It can end up being an economic bailout for the millions of people who undergo cosmetic botulinum toxin treatments several times a year.
