Did Octo-Mom Nadya Suleman Have Plastic Surgery?

Posted on February 27th, 2009 in Awful/Bad Plastic Surgery, Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Erica Hurtz

Since the initial reports of a single mother giving birth to octuplets began, more and more bizarre tidbits have leaked out, including visuals of the mother, who bears a striking resemblance to actress Angelina Jolie. As Nadya is not related to the actress, it seems plastic surgery must play a role rather than genes.

Nadya Suleman, Plastic Surgery

33-year old Nadya shocked the world when she gave birth to octoplets. Then people were further shocked to find out that she was already the mother of six other children. After keeping her identity concealed for a few days, Nadya has recently begun making public appearances. She has appeared on talk shows and also has become the latest passion for papparrazi, nicknamed “Octo-Mom.” Many were stunned to see the resemblance that Nadya bears to actress Angelina Jolie, a clear example of plastic surgery.

Nadya’s rumored to have had plastic surgery in the past, in the form of a nose job and lip implants, but Make Me Heal suspects she has had a lot more work than that, given her truly odd appearance that differs greatly from old photos of the notorious mother.

Octo Mom, Plastic Surgery

(Left: Before, Right: After)

In addition to a nose job and lip augmentation, Nadya may also have cheek implants, like Angelina is rumored to have done (See Make Me Heal’s story on Angelina Jolie’s plastic surgery) as well as Botox and other facial fillers.

Plastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer Walden agrees with Make Me Heal’s assessment, saying, “Nadya Suleman seems to have altered her face in attempts to resemble Angelina Jolie (without the inherent beauty and incredible genetics handed down by Jolie’s parents, by the way). She looks like she has had lip soft tissue fillers, Botox and possible cheek implants and a rhinoplasty.”

Octo Mom, Plastic Surgery

Like many, Dr. Walden goes on to wonder how the unemployed mother supports her kids and plastic surgery habit, as well as offers advice on another type of doctor the troubled young woman should consult:

“She is working our government’s system to her benefit if she has spent what money she does have on those procedures instead of the little kids, and in my opinion really just needs a psychiatrist. Her plastic surgeon and fertility specialist are just as irresponsible as she is if they knowingly took money from someone on food stamps to make her face look as blown up as it is, and give her 8 more kids to care for at the taxpayer’s expense.”

Although Nadya has denied having plastic surgery, the results seem obvious, whether or not you think she resembles the 2009 Best Actress nominee (See Make Me Heal’s story on the 2009 Oscars).

Dr. Paul S. Nassif, a Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Rhinoplasty Specialist in Beverly Hills, Calif., said, “Ms. Suleman has definitely had an over-aggressive rhinoplasty. I personally don’t think that her nose looks like Angelina Jolie’s. Her lips are over-inflated with some type of filler, possibly silicone as compared to her before photos.”

Nadya has also been said to have had breast implants placed when she was 18, before she began having large amounts of children. Nadya has also been criticized for having acrylic nails and seems to take good care of her skin, having facials and possibly other procedures that a new mother usually doesn’t have time or funds for.

Like the rest of the world, Make Me Heal continues to read more about the mother of 14 with morbid fascination as more and more bizarre details of her story are revealed. We agree wholeheartedly with Dr. Walden that the only doctor seeing Nadya should be a mental health professional.

Did Rebecca Romijn Have Mommy Makeover Plastic Surgery?

Posted on February 26th, 2009 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Caitlin Miller

Model turned actress Rebecca Romijn gave birth to twins at the end of last year, leading many to speculate about a plastic surgery mommy makeover for the new mother.

The twins are the first children born to 36-year old Rebecca and her husband, 34-year old actor Jerry O’Connell, twin brother of actor Charlie O’Connell. As soon as Rebecca began stepping out without the twins, rumors began that the nearly 6-foot tall beauty had been under the knife to get her pre-baby body back to looking as good as it did when she played Mystique in the X-Men films.

Rebecca Romijn, Plastic Surgery

A “Mommy Makeover” surgery usually includes a tummy tuck to help restore a post pregnancy belly to a firmer, flatter stomach, as well as a breast lift and/or augmentation that gives the mommy the full, perky breasts they lost due to breast feeding. (See Make Me Heal’s story on a Mommy Makeover).

However, it would a little soon for the procedure, as plastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer Walden points out, “Rebecca Romijn does not appear to have undergone any surgery. She is only a few months after giving birth to twins, and appears to be healthy and exercising to lose the baby weight. No plastic surgeon in his or her right mind would operate so soon on this beauty after she just gave birth to twins.”

Plastic surgeon Dr. John Di Saia concedes that while a mommy makeover is a possibility, it is hard to tell given the loose-fitting clothing Rebecca has been sporting on her public outings, “Rebecca Romijn looks great, but she is in a loose jump suit.”

Rebecca seems to be following in the footsteps of another celebrity mom with twins, Jennifer Lopez. JLo was another example of a mommy makeover rumor that Make Me Heal disproved. (See Make Me Heal’s story on Jennifer Lopez’ plastic surgery rumors).

Dr. Sherrell J. Aston is another plastic surgeon that agrees that Rebecca is regaining her shape without plastic surgery. He says, “There is no suggestion that Rebecca Romijin has had any cosmetic surgery and in my opinion she doesn’t need it. She is regaining her shape naturally.”

Make Me Heal wishes the new parents the best of luck with the difficult task of taking care of twins.

Did Demi Moore Have More Plastic Surgery?

Posted on February 25th, 2009 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Dana Jackson

Make Me Heal has long been fascinated with Demi Moore’s ability to look younger, even as she ages. Although for a while, Mrs. Ashton Kutcher didn’t look quite up to snuff, it seems she’s had some plastic surgery to bring her back up to par.

Now 46 years old, Demi looks better than ever. She has attributed her recently rejuvenated appearance to unnamed expensive products as well as natural therapies, including leech therapy and some namless treatments, which Make Me Heal suspects are really plastic surgery. Make Me Heal’s suspicions are further justified after reading the following quote made to Star Magazine:

“Demi is obsessed with her looks. She’ll do anything to keep herself looking young.”

Demi Moore, Plastic Surgery

(Left: Before, Right: After)

Make Me Heal has continually reported on Demi’s quest to look young and the huge amount of money that she has spent on the effort. See Make Me Heal’s story on Demi Moore’s plastic surgery. Now it seems, that she may have had her previous plastic surgeries touched up, with some fillers.

Plastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer Walden discuses with Make Me Heal Demi’s procedures, past and present, “Demi Moore looks fantastic for her age. It seems that she has undergone breast augmentation, liposuction of the thighs possibly, Botox, a great skin care program with perhaps some resurfacing like peels or laser, and at this point maybe even a mini-facelift. She’s a machine, more power to her.”

After looking at pictures of Demi before and after her “leech therapy,” plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Nassif agrees that Demi may have been filled out a little.

He tells Make Me Heal, “Demi is smiling in the after photo, making it difficult for me to tell, but her cheeks do look a little plumper.”

Often, after a facelift, the patient will want to keep up the refreshed look, usually by having Botox as well as facial fillers injected into areas.

Make Me Heal thinks that Demi’s plastic surgery is everything plastic surgery is meant to be, enhancing the natural appearance, without looking too done. We’re glad to see her keeping up her looks.

Kevin James Hides Hair Loss in Mall Cop

Posted on February 24th, 2009 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Sarah Lahiany

Funny man Kevin James was a big hit with audiences in his new flick Paul Blart: Mall Cop. But would the former King of Queens look as good without his hair?

Kevin James, Hair Transplant

Best known for his role on the sitcom The King of Queens, 43-year old Kevin James is an obvious victim of hair loss. He often appears with his head covered, with one hat or another and keeps his hair short to avoid the dreaded “comb-over.” While these attempts to cover his baldness may make people think that the chubby star is just beginning to lose his hair, hair loss restoration expert Alan J. Bauman wasn’t fooled.

Dr. Bauman tells Make Me Heal, “Kevin James has worn a hairpiece for years which couldn’t hide the loss in the temporal points (hairline that makes up the side of the forehead).”

“He’s always got a hat on, too, or a hide-the-hairpiece Caesar cut. You can see in his side-view photos from Mall Cop, that he has lost his temporal points due to male pattern hair loss.”

“Even if he was to continue to use a hairpiece, a small transplant in the temporal points, would go a long way in looking more natural because it gives a more natural ‘frame of the face’ than just the hairpiece up top. This kind of transplantation is a small session of just several hundred grafts containing mostly single follicles. The temporal point is the area most overlooked by hair transplant surgeons and one of the most difficult areas to design and execute in order to achieve naturalness.”

Make Me Heal is surprised by the success of Mall Cop, but enjoys seeing a leading man that isn’t physically perfect.

Plastic Surgery at the 2009 Oscars

Posted on February 23rd, 2009 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Oscars Plastic Surgery, Award Shows by Dana Jackson

Every year, Make Me Heal looks forward to the Academy Awards because at no other time does so much plastic surgery appear in one place at one time.

Hosted by Hugh Jackman, the ceremonies kicked off with the Tony-award winner performing a clever song and dance routine that was entirely free of plastic surgery, but that doesn’t mean some nips and tucks in the future wouldn’t help the Sexiest Man Alive be even sexier.

Huge Jackman, Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgeon Dr. Sherrel J. Aston says, “Hugh Jackman is 40 years old and looks great. He is People magazine’s choice as The Sexiest Man Alive and he earned this distinction all on his own.”

“His upper eyelids are a little heavy, he has prominent nasolabial folds and his nose is a little long. All these could be changed but he has no reason to do it at this point. In the future he may want to consider having these areas corrected in a very subtle way.”

Sean Penn won the Oscar for Best Actor in the biopic Milk. Although his large nose has never seen a plastic surgeon’s blade, many of the nominees in his category were more than familiar with the inside of a plastic surgeon’s office, including Brad Pitt, who recently underwent laser treatments to refresh his appearance. Dr. Jennifer Walden, said “ it appears to me that Brad may have had some sort of facial resurfacing procedure like a chemical peel or laser with minimal downtime given that his skin looks smoother and more evenly textured, and possibly even soft tissue fillers.” See Make Make Me Heal’s story on Brad Pitt’s plastic surgery. See Make Me Heal’s story on the Best Actor nominees.

Sean Penn, Cosmetic Surgery

The Oscar for Best Supporting Actor was posthumously awarded to Heath Ledger for his role in The Dark Knight. Most of the actors nominated in this category hadn’t had any plastic surgery, but could universally benefit from some careful eyework, including Josh Brolin, Robert Downey Jr. and Philip Seymour Hoffman. See Make Me Heal’s story on the Best Supporting Actor nominees.

Heath Ledger, Plastic Surgery

Kate Winslet was the Oscar winner for Best Actress in The Reader. Whether or not the British beauty has been under the knife seems to be a matter of opinion. See Make Me Heal’s story on Kate Winslet’s plastic surgery. Other actresses in her category, including Anglelina Jolie, have definitely had plastic surgery to improve their looks. Angelina notoriously had a nose job early in her career, See Make Me Heal’s story on Angelina Jolie’s plastic surgery. Other actresses in the category, like Melissa Leo (See Make Me Heal’s story on Melissa Leo’s plastic surgery) and Anne Hathaway (See Make Me Heal’s story on Anne Hathaway’s plastic surgery) don’t appear to have had cosmetic surgery. See Make Me Heal’s story on the Best Actress nominees.

Kate Winslet, Plastic Surgery

Penelope Cruz won Best Supporting Actress for her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. The Spanish beauty has previously undergone some minor plastic surgery improvements, including lip injections, while more invasive plastic surgery procedures, including a nose job remain hard to determine. Dr. Paul S. Nassif, a Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Rhinoplasty Specialist in Beverly Hills, Calif., said, “Some photos that show the front of Ms. Cruz’s nose are consistent with having had a rhinoplasty. Her tip cartilage looks like it might have a parenthesis look from the way the cartilage was excised.” See Make Me Heal’s story on Penelope Cruz’ plastic surgery. Penelope’s fellow nominees in the category, including Amy Adams, Taraji P. Henson, Viola Davis and Marissa Tomei also had minimal procedures, see Make Me Heal’s story on the Best Supporting Actress nominees.

Penelope Cruz, Cosmetic Surgery

Best Picture went to Slumdog Millionaire, the small film that got really big. The stars are not well-known in the United States and some of the smaller roles were filled by locals living in the film’s location of Mumbai. As the careers of the star grows, so may their interest in plastic surgery and Make Me Heal intends to be the first to report on any changes in the stars’ appearances.

Slumdog Millionaire, Best Picture

Although they weren’t nominated for their work, Make Me Heal spotted several plastic surgeries walking the red carpet.

Jennifer Grey and her notoriously bad nose job appeared in a curve-hugging Dolce & Gabbana gown. Since the nose job that rendered her nearly unrecognizable, the 48-year old Dirty Dancing actress seems to have been under the knife a few more times to tighten up with a facelift and facial fillers to keep her looking preternaturally young.

Jennifer Grey, Plastic Surgery

Another plastic surgery fan was Jessica Biel, who appeared in Prada. The 26-year old seems to have had a nose job and lip injections to keep her looking hot to trot down red carpets everywhere. See Make Me Heal’s story on Jessica Biel’s plastic surgery.

Jessica Biel, Plastic Surgery

Although they didn’t win, power couple doubly nominated Brangelina appeared looking better than ever. Brad took care of the ugly mustache issue by adding more facial hair to his Juvederm-ed face, while Angelina accented her possible cheek implants and nose job with colorful dangling earrings. See Make Heal’s story on Brad Pitt’s plastic surgery and Make Me Heal’s story on Angelina Jolie’s plastic surgery.

Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Cosmetic Surgery

Another favorite couple, especially among the tween set, that made an appearance on the red carpet and even presented awards, was Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron. The High School Musical stars, 20 and 21, respectively, have both been rumored to have plastic surgery: a nose job for him and a breast augmentation for her. See Make Me Heal’s story on Vanessa Hudgen’s breast augmentation and Make Me Heal’s story on Zac Efron’s nose job.

Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Plastic Surgery

The Oscars were an elegant display of fashion and plastic surgery at their best and worst and Make Me Heal congratulates all the winners on a job well done.

Plastic Surgery for the 2009 Best Actor Oscar Nominees

The Best Actor Nominees for the 2009 Oscar ceremonies cross a wide range of the plastic surgery spectrum. From those that use plastic surgery judiciously to look better, like Brad Pitt, to those that overdone, like Mickey Rourke, Make Me Heal takes a look at all the Best Actor nominees and their procedures.

Richard Jenkins has been nominated for his first Oscar at age 61 for his work in The Visitor. Although the tall man has never been known for his stunning good looks, they could still be improved, even though Richard is new to plastic surgery. Aging has left Richard with baggy eyelids and extreme hair loss, both of which could be corrected with plastic surgery.

Richard Jenkins, Plastic Surgery

Facial plastic surgery expert, Dr. Paul S. Nassif tells Make Me Heal, “Richard Jenkins could use some Botox, but he definitely needs his eyes done. He probably can’t see out on the outside aspects of his eyes, due to his heavy eyelids.  The heavy lids are causing what is called “hooding out” near the corners. The skin is folding over his upper eyelid, almost blocking vision.”

In addition to some eyelid plastic surgery, Richard could also conquer his hair loss by undergoing hair restoration. Hair loss expert Dr. Alan Buman says, “Richard Jenkins is a ‘Norwood Class 7′ (7 out of 7), an extensive pattern of hair loss.   Any degree of restoration of his own living and growing hair would have to proceed with careful planning in order to achieve a satisfactory result. Unlike old-style ‘plugs,’ we used a process that involves the transplantation of single follicle grafts for the frontal hairline and groups of two or three hair follicles to create density farther back.   Adding a randomized, natural design to the hairline gives a 100% undetectable look.” (See Make Me Heal’s story on Richard Jenkins’ plastic surgery).

71-year old Frank Langella, nominated for his work in Frost/Nixon, could also benefit from hair restoration.

Frank Langella, Plastic Surgery

According to Dr. Bauman, “Frank Langella is a ‘Norwood Class 5′ (out of 7), so he’s also already experienced severe hair loss over the course of his life.   If enough donor hair is available in the back of the scalp, this could be transplanted into the thinning and balding areas to eventually give coverage and restore the look that was only previously possible with a thick hairpiece that he used in Frost/Nixon.   It is important to understand that transplanted hair densities do not have to be equal to the original density in order to give coverage to the scalp.”

In addition, Frank could tighten up his appearance with some plastic surgery. Plastic surgeon Dr. Sherrell J. Aston says, “Frank Langella has not had any plastic surgery. He is a good candidate for a facelift and upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty. His neck is quite loose and he has significant jowling.  His upper and lower lids are very heavy and full. He is at the stage where a properly done procedure would not look like surgery but surely maintain the roles he can play in the future.”

Dr. Nassif agrees that while Frank has never previously had plastic surgery, he could benefit from some, “Frank Langella is aging nicely, it looks good on him, like a Sean Connery-type. Maybe an upper eyelid lift and lower blepharoplasty to remove the little fat bags could help him look better.” (See Make Me Heal’s story on Frank Langella’s plastic surgery).

48-year old Sean Penn is up for his fifth Academy Award for his role in Milk and it will be his second Oscar if he wins. Although Sean has never been under the knife before, it could help restore him to his “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” Spicoli days. His large nose makes him an obvious candidate for a rhinoplasty, but he more imminently needs anti-aging treatments, like Botox.

Sean Penn, Plastic Surgery

Dr. Nassif says, “Sean Penn definitely hasn’t had any work done in the past, especially not a nose job, because it is still very large. Penn could benefit from a browlift and upper blepharoplasty. Botox to forehead and around the eyes (crow’s feet and glabella (between the eyes), would also help.”

Plastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer Walden says, “Sean Penn hasn’t had anything done, but he would look nice with a well-done rhinoplasty. That being said, a surgeon would have to be nuts to operate on him because it would likely change his trademark look so much that we would miss the old Sean Penn that has been on the screen for so long.”

45-year old Brad Pitt has received his second Oscar nomination for his role in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Brad has been a sex symbol since his breakthrough role in Thelma & Louise and so, while he doesn’t need any major surgery, he could use some anti-aging treatments to keep him looking good.

Brad Pitt, Plastic Surgery

Dr. Nassif says, “Like his co-nominees, Pitt could have his eyes done. He also has acne scarring from what I recall, which could be helped with some Fraxel or IPL.”

Also noting his good looks, Dr. Walden tells Make Me Heal, “Brad Pitt is a very handsome man who may have undergone a skin-resurfacing procedure or fillers, but I think he doesn’t even needs to do those things to age gracefully. Pitt is the caliber of Robert Redford or Paul Newman when it comes to natural good looks and acting talent, and neither of those men ever need(ed) a thing done!”

Weighing in on the father of six, plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn says, “The one plastic surgery that a man as good looking as Brad Pitt can consider is facial fat grafting.  As he has aged, his face has become more gaunt as the fat has disappeared.  This is most evident in his cheeks and under his eyes.  Injecting some fat into these areas can give his face a softer appearance and bring him back to looking more like his ‘A River Runs Through It’ days.  Oh, and he can shave that heinous 70s mustache too…” (See Make Me Heal’s story on Brad Pitt’s plastic surgery).

Unlike his co-nominees, 52-year old Mickey Rourke has had more than enough plastic surgery for all of the Best Actors. Nominated for his role in The Wrestler, Mickey has gone under the knife several times, to the count of at least one facelift, possible chin, cheek and lower lip implants and possible multiple nose jobs. All plastic surgeons and Make Me Heal agree, the best thing Mickey can do now is to stay away from plastic surgery to ensure his bizarre appearance doesn’t get any worse. (See Make Me Heal’s story on Mickey Rourke’s plastic surgery).

Mickey Rourke, Plastic Surgery

Make Me Heal is pleased to see some of these veteran actors finally getting recognized for their work and looks forward to seeing how all the men clean up for the red carpet.

Plastic Surgery for the 2009 Best Supporting Actor Oscar Nominees

Posted on February 19th, 2009 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Dana Jackson

This year’s Academy Award nominees for Best Supporting Actor range from action films to comedies and the dramas that make up the list every year. As Make Me Heal explores the list of Best Supporting Actors, we look at each actor’s past plastic surgery and what procedures could help them look their best for their upcoming films.

41-year old Josh Brolin has been nominated for his role in the historic film Milk. A handsome man, like his father actor James Brolin, Josh could benefit from some work around his eyes.

Josh Brolin, Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgeon Dr. Paul S. Nassif, says, “Josh Brolin looks a little heavy around the eyes. He would do well to have some eyelid surgery.”

Plastic surgeon Dr. Sherrell J. Aston tells Make Me Heal, “Josh Brolin will be 41 years old in a few days and he looks good. His eyebrows are low and in a few years he may want a browlift to just open the appearance of his eyes. His eyes would also feel less heavy. However one must be careful with male browlifts so as to not make the eyes look feminine.  I don’t think he has had any procedures at this time.”

The funniest Supporting Actor nomination was for Robert Downey Jr’s role as a black man in the slapstick comedy Tropic Thunder. The 43-year old actor has had a hard life, but it doesn’t seem to have affected his appearance too much.

Robert Downey Jr., Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer Walden tells Make Me Heal, “Robert Downey Jr. has lived hard and his eyes sometimes look tired with heaviness of the upper lids and bags under the lowers.  He would possibly benefit from a blepharoplasty of the upper and lower lids (an eyelid lift) because other than that, he still looks mischievous and young!”

Dr. Nassif also thinks Robert looks good, and although he likely hasn’t had any work in the past, could still benefit from some Botox.

In the past, Make Me Heal has reported on Robert Downey Jr.’s skin resurfacing laser treatments, which have helped him look refreshed despite his drug and alcohol-using past. (See Make Me Heal’s story on Robert Downey Jr.’s plastic surgery).

41-year old Philip Seymour Hoffman has been nominated for his work in the film Doubt. The overweight actor could definitely do better in the looks department, but as he’s earned a lot of recognition with his appearance, it doesn’t seem to matter.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Cosmetic Surgery

Dr. Nassif tells Make Me Heal, “Philip Seymour Hoffman needs to lose a lot of weight, a lap band could help. He also needs face care such as microdermabrasion and skin products.”

Hair loss expert Dr. Alan Bauman says, “Philip Seymour Hoffman’s high, receded hairline and swoopingly-long forelock seem to be his signature look.  However, if he chose to have a lower hairline, this could be accomplished undetectably using modern hair transplantation techniques, called follicular-unit micrografting, which transplant one, two or three hair follicles at a time.   The good news is that the long, swooping hair would cover most of the healing process which, when accelerated with hyperbaric oxygen treatments and phototherapy, now takes only a week.”

Dr. Aston also noted Philip’s weight problem, saying, “Phillip Seymour Hoffman is 41 years old and could benefit from liposuction of the neck and jawline and still play his same roles. He naturally has a full face and although it is a bit loose one must be careful to not change him too much.  His eyelid would also benefit from a very carefully performed blepharoplasty. He can definitely be improved without looking done. However things are going very well for him at this point so he might just stay as he
is.” (See Make Me Heal’s story on Philip Seymour Hoffman’s plastic surgery).

34-year old Michael Shannon’s performance in Revolutionary Road has earned him an Oscar nomination. His untraditional features are not the result of plastic surgery. Because of his relatively young age, he likely won’t need to have any work done in the future.

Michael Shannon, Plastic Surgery

Dr. Nassif says, “He looks good and doesn’t need to have anything done at this point.”

Dr. Aston says, “Michael Shannon is 34 years old. He does not appear to have had any plastic surgery and he doesnt need any.”

Make Me Heal wishes all the Best Supporting Actors good luck at the Oscars, including their late peer Heath Ledger, who was nominated for his role as the maniacal Joker in The Dark Knight.

Renee Zellweger’s Plastic Surgery is New in Town

Posted on February 18th, 2009 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery by Ruby Marr

Since her breakthrough role in Jerry Maguire, Renee Zellweger has become one of America’s favorite sweethearts. But lately, many have wondered if the beauty’s appearance has become overdone by plastic surgery.

Renee Zellweger, Plastic Surgery

In the past, Make Me Heal has reported on the thin-framed Renee’s breast augmentation, when she seemed to have blossomed overnight (See Make Me Heal’s story on Renee Zellweger’s breast augmentation). But now, the 39-year old actress seems to have gone under the knife again, with less pleasing results.

In her last few movies, including her most recent, New in Town, Renee’s face has appeared to be more full and tight than it used to be. Although she has always had small eyes, they seem even smaller when surrounded by her full face.

Make Me Heal doesn’t have any definitive handle on why Renee looks so different than she used to, but we do suspect that injectables of some kind are at play.

Renee’s face used to seem more “real,” thinner and not so smooth and shiny and pulled-looking. Renee may be using fat injections and grafting to get that smooth and full look, which would also eliminate any fine lines that are beginning to creep up as the actress nears 40.

Another explanation for Renee’s otherworldly smoothness could be an overload of Botox. While used correctly, Botox helps eliminate wrinkles, too much makes people look strange and unemotional.

Whatever the secret to Renee’s odd appearance, Make Me Heal hopes she stops doing whatever it is and gets back to normal.

Male Oscar Nominees with Hair Loss

Posted on February 17th, 2009 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Male Plastic Surgery, Oscars Plastic Surgery, Award Shows by Carrie Zender

Every year at the Oscars, Make Me Heal sees actors with varying stages of hair loss and their various attempts at covering it up. This year, Make Me Heal decided to consult a hair loss expert so that by next year, these outstanding actors can hit the red carpet with hair. (See Make Me Heal’s previous story on Hair Loss at the Oscars).

61-year old Richard Jenkins has been nominated for Best Actor for his performance in The Visitor. As many fans of his work will recall, Richard’s hair loss is very significant and it would require a lot of work to restore it.

Richard Jenkins, Plastic Surgery

According to hair restoration surgeon Dr. Alan Bauman, “Richard Jenkins is a ‘Norwood Class 7′ (7 out of 7), an extensive pattern of hair loss. Adding a randomized, natural design to the hairline gives a 100% undetectable look.”

71-year old Frank Langella has also been nominated for his first Oscar, in the Best Actor category for his work in the historic drama Frost/Nixon. Although his hair loss is a different pattern than his peer, Richard’s, Frank’s is still fairly severe.

Frank Langela, Hair Transplant

According to Dr. Bauman, “Frank Langella is a ‘Norwood Class 5′ (out of 7), so he’s also already experienced severe hair loss over the course of his life.   If enough donor hair is available in the back of the scalp, this could be transplanted into the thinning and balding areas to eventually give coverage and restore the look that was only previously possible with a thick hairpiece that he used in Frost/Nixon. It is important to understand that transplanted hair densities do not have to be equal to the original density in order to give coverage to the scalp.”

“Transplantation restores hair follicles permanently into the thinning or balding areas, and medication like Propecia or Minoxidil or even low level laser therapy can be used to maintain and enhance the existing hair.”

Although the youngest actor, 41-year old Philip Seymour Hoffman has been nominated for his third Oscar, as Best Supporting Actor for his role in Doubt. The Oscar winner has a very high, receded hairline, which although his signature look, could be corrected with plastic surgery.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Hair Transplant

Dr. Bauman tells Make Me Heal, “Philip Seymour Hoffman’s high, receded hairline and swoopingly-long forelock seem to be his signature look.  However, if he chose to have a lower hairline, this could be accomplished undetectably using modern hair transplantation techniques, called follicular-unit micrografting, which transplant one, two or three hair follicles at a time. The good news is that the long, swooping hair would cover most of the healing process which, when accelerated with hyperbaric oxygen treatments and phototherapy, now takes only a week.  Here’s an example of a hairline restoration using follicular-unit micrografting transplantation.”

All of the nominees gave excellent performances and could only be improved with a little more hair. Make Me Heal looks forward to seeing the winner on Oscar Sunday.
