John Cleese Admits to Having Hair Transplants

Posted on November 17th, 2008 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Male Plastic Surgery by Jet H. Ross

John Cleese has been a celebrated actor and comedian for many years on both sides of the pond. But before he made it big with Monty Python, John Cleese began losing his hair. Now, the funnyman and actor has admitted to having hair transplants.

69-year old John Cleese has been the victim of hair loss for many years, but he recently decided to rectify the problem by undergoing hair transplant surgery.

John Cleese, Hair Transplant

While appearing on Richard & Judy’s New Position, a British television program, John revealed his new hair.

After discussing his hip surgery, John added,  “As we’re talking operations, since I saw you last, I’ve had a hair transplant.”

He spoke in detail about the procedure, which involved two strips of hair being taken from the back of his head, then cut into a further 800 pieces, with the 800 incisions then transplanted back on to the scalp.

John also revealed why he had the procedure, saying, “Because I have got a very strange shaped skull, very pointy… and I don’t like wearing wigs!”

Smart decision as hairpieces can actually accelerate hair loss, as is the case with American actor Jeremy Piven (See Make Me Heal’s story on Jeremy Piven’s hair loss), who uses hairpieces to cover his receding hairline.

Hair restoration expert Dr. Alan Bauman explains, “Hair loss in the frontal hairline can be caused by the progression of hereditary hair loss, and accelerated by the chronic use of tape or glue used to attach the front of hairpieces onto that area.”

John joins the ranks of countless celebrities with hair transplants, including Brendan Fraser (See Make Me Heal’s story on Brendan Fraser’s hair loss) and Vice-President Elect Joe Biden (See Make Me Heal’s story on Joe Biden’s hair transplants).

Make Me Heal always enjoys John Cleese’s unique brand of wit and looks forward to next seeing him in the remake of the classic film The Day the Earth Stood Still, due out next month.

Whatever procedure John Cleese wants to undergo, I’ll still love him! :)

P.S. I really hope he’ll recover from this rather painful divorce. Brrr. =\
