Did Jude Law Get A Hair Transplant?

Posted on August 6th, 2008 in Celebrity Plastic Surgery, Male Plastic Surgery by Erica Hurtz

Thanks to modern technology, Jude Law’s receding hairline seems to have made a comeback for his Dior Homme advertising campaign. Jude’s hair is significantly fuller than his previous receding hairline.

Jude Law, Hair Transplant

Jude Law first rose to prominence playing a hunk with a full head of hair, in movies like The Talented Mr. Ripley. Since then, the actor has exhibited signs of male pattern baldness when making public appearances, although his hair occasionally reappears for his roles in movies, most likely with the help of hair pieces.

For his latest role, representing Dior, Jude’s hair appears much more full than it has in the past with a more youthful lower hairline.

Those who believe that Jude’s hair is really the work of clever hairstyling, being cut short and styled forward, then it really allows his signature widow’s peak to appear to be fuller. He may also have some extensions cut short to add fullness. But for us at Make Me Heal, it is hard to believe that hair could be styled in the many thinning areas that Jude had. Airbrush expert Chris Bickmore appears to agree, pointing out: ‘I wouldn’t say it was hairstyling as they can’t style hair that isn’t there.”

There has been talk that Jude Law’s lower hairline was the result of digital enhancement. A spokesman for Jude Law refuted this claims, saying “I can categorically say there has been no digital enhancement. It is nonsense.”

If Jude’s hair hasn’t been digitally enhanced, then it is quite possible that he underwent a follicular-unit micrografting hair transplant procedure or is wearing a hair piece. If this is the case, Jude Law would not be the first known hot actor known for his good looks to experience hair loss and find a means to disguise it, as actors like Matthew McConaughey (see the story on Matthew McConaughey’s Hair Transplant), Brendan Fraser (see the story on Brendan Fraser’s hair transplant), John Travolta (see the story on John Travolta’s Hair Toupee), Tom Hanks (see the story on Tom Hanks’ hair transplant), and Jeremy Piven (see the story on Jeremy Piven’s Hair Piece) have all gotten hair transplants or hair pieces (, John Travolta, and Brendan Fraser have all gotten hair transplants or hair pieces. (See Make Me Heal’s story on Brendan Fraser’s hair transplant).

Hair restoration surgeon Dr. Alan Bauman believes the photos have been airbrushed, saying:

“No doubt it’s been airbrushed. You can certainly see the digital ‘smudge’ in the top photo at the deep temple. They even enhanced the temporal point (the area right above and behind the eyebrow). It is a dramatic ‘electronic’ before and after, but it illustrates just how the hairline can ‘frame’ the face aesthetically.”

Dr. Bauman adds that digital improvements are quite common in his profession, which make it quite obvious that Jude’s hair in the ads has been digitally enhanced.

“Very often we do simulations for patients interested in hair restoration, prior to their hair transplant procedures. Drawing out the hairline electronically gives patients a good idea of what is possible, what is aesthetic and what is not,” says Dr. Bauman.

Jude Law has not commented on his receding hairline, but seems to accept growing older with grace as he feels that it gives him a wider range for acting roles.

“Landing a role now is not based on my looks - more on my acting,” Law said.

Whatever the explanation for Jude’s seemingly fuller head of hair in the Dior ads, it is certain that he looks as handsome as ever.

Wow, it’s sad but he actually looks a bit scary with the widow’s peak!

His hairline is the same. If anyone has ever watched Scrubs you’ll see John C. McGinley (Dr. Perry Cox) has the very same hairline and bit in the middle that law has. There was one episode last year where he shaved down as low as he could go and yet when he grew it out you couldn’t really tell there was anyone real recession. Jude’s hair is like that. The next time he shaved it down it will be noticeable.

Seriously? I have always thought McGinley had an obvious toupee. Yes, I remember when his hairline was receding. But I’ve seen his hairline, in my inexpert judgment, far beyond the point where it would be capable of growing the mop he wears on “Scrubs”.
