90s Boyband have a reputation for being forever young, but time is starting to take its toll on some former members, including Joey Fatone. The former NSYNC star has apparently opted to restore some of his lost youth, and lost hair, with a hair transplant.
36-year old singer/dancer Joey Fatone is back in the public eye, in his new incarnation as a spokesperson for Bosley hair restoration. In the infomercial, Joey reveals that his hair loss began during his days with the boy band, but he only recently decided to opt for plastic surgery to correct the loss.
Joey was once known for his crazy hats, which he probably used to cover up the thinning spots on the top of his head. Other stars that suffer from hair loss frequently use hairpieces or wigs while others try products designed to stimulate hair growth, including shampoos, treatments, conditioners, serums, vitamins and even laser treatments. While not always effect, many of these products help slow hair loss and even reverse it without the expense of a hair transplant procedure.
In the Bosley commercial, Joey reveals that he didn’t make the decision to undergo hair loss restoration lightly, but rather to help him be less embarrassed about his condition.
“Performing in front of a live audience can be pretty intimidating, so having a full head of hair was important to me. Back then, I was the only one in the group getting thinner on top. I became self-conscious and started wearing hats more often. That’s life, but the beautiful thing is that now you can do something about it. The answer for me was going to Bosley where lots of celebrities go.”
Some of the other celebrities that Joey is referring to may include other singers that have also recently revealed their struggles with hair loss and consequential decision to undergo hair transplant surgery, including former Backstreet Boy AJ McLean and British singer Robbie Williams. AJ revealed his hair transplant via social media, saying “Some girls get their boobs done some guys get ab implants all to make them happy! This was the one thing I did and I couldn’t be happier thank u dr G!” Then there is Christopher Knight, Joey’s fellow star in the Bosley infomercial and former member of The Brady Bunch television show, who credits Bosley with getting his sexy back and calling the process the “best kept secret in Hollywood.” If stars keep talking about it, it won’t be such a great secret, but it may help take away some of the stigma associated with hair transplants, which would probably be encouraging for many sufferers of a hair loss condition.
In a press release revealing their new spokesperson, Bosley reveals why Joey chose the Bosley method for his hair transplant procedure, “Like millions of people, Joey found that he had to reinvent himself, launch a new career, and deal with the economic changes before him. He took action.”
Congrats to Joey for coming out about his plastic surgery.
