If going under the knife is too extreme for you and wrinkle creams aren’t doing it for you anymore, there are some effective non-surgical minimally invasive options that may give you the youthful appearance you’ve been searching for.

    Skin Tightening

Syneron Medical has demonstrated that evolastin, The New Natural You, although not a “facelift in a jar” that most high end wrinkle creams promise, can produce results pretty close to a facelift. This innovative laser treatment is the first and only aesthetic procedure that has been shown to produce facelift-like results without the pain, cost, and recovery time expected from surgery. In a clinical study published in the Archives of Dermatology by six leading dermatologists, evolastin delivered one-third of the improvement of a traditional facelift. Even plastic surgeons who are trained to perform facelifts have taken notice of this breakthrough technology.

According to San Francisco facial plastic surgeon James Newman, M.D. who specializes in facial plastic surgery, “evolastin directs radio-frequency energy into the deep layers using micro needles to stimulate the skin’s natural healing response and increase new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid that degrades with age. This is very different from other energy-based devices that only tighten skin because evolastin achieves a three-dimensional improvement. The end result is tighter skin, fuller volume and fewer wrinkles, which is what you would expect to get from surgery.” Evolastin is safe for all skin types because it works from the inside out. Unlike cosmetic surgeries, it is cheaper (the treatment costs around $2,500), without a long recovery.

Both evolastin and Ultherapy use noninvasive, nonsurgical means to tighten wrinkles and eliminate fine lines on the neck and face. While evolastin uses radiofrequency energy, Ultherapy relies on sound waves to directly impact the deep tissue layer of the brow, neck, and face.  New York plastic surgeon Dr. Bryan G. Forley, who has been using Ulthera to tighten lax skin on the face, neck, and brow areas, explains that this simple treatment is proven to show impressive results within a single treatment session.  As Dr. Forley said, “This non-invasive treatment is able to lift, tighten, and firm the face with minimal downtime. You can see an immediate smoothing effect, and the results continue to improve for up to six months. Ultherapy is an ideal bridge procedure for women and men with early sagging and facial aging who want to avoid or postpone surgery. ”

    Liquid Facelifts

Of course, BOTOX Cosmetic does not need any introduction. BOTOX, Dysport or Xeomin is now commonly combined with dermal fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane for what is known as a “liquid facelift.” This customized procedure is a less dramatic method to take years off your face in a single visit to your dermatologist or plastic surgeon.

As we age the lower face and neck lose some natural volume, and droops, much like a deflated balloon. Instead of surgery to lift the facial tissues, using BOTOX and Dysport in conjunction with volumizers and fillers is a quick, painless way to restore a youthful face, with results approaching surgical treatments. The best analogy to understand how BOTOX Cosmetic lifts the face is to think of there being a tug-of-war acting on all points of the face, there are muscles that pull things down and muscles that pull things up. If you block the muscles that pull things down, the muscles that pull things up win, elevating that facial structure. “The most popular injectable treatment in my practice is Dysport. Results are very predictable and people love the subtle improvements we can achieve without looking dramatically different or distorted. It is also a good complement to other treatments including Refirme, and other lasers and fillers,” said New York Dermatologist Judith Hellman.

Although less costly, less painful, and almost no need to take time off work to recover, the obvious drawback is these treatments need to be repeated for long term maintenance. However, they are a great alternative for those who either do not have the time for recovery, or are not psychologically ready to undergo surgery.
