You’ve heard “The Thong Song.” You’ve gotten your groove on to “Baby Got Back.” And maybe, looking back, you’ve considered that your own derriere is less luscious than you’d like. Well, maybe your butt can get a hand from a new Brazilian procedure called the ‘thong lift.’
At a recent conference of British Aesthetic and Plastic Surgeons in London, Miami plastic surgeon Constantino Mendieta presented his plastic surgery solution to an increasing demand among female patients for a curvier booty: the thong lift. Mendieta studied surgical techniques in Brazil, which seems to have left him with a definite opinion on how butts should be – large and plump. So if you’re feeling blue because you don’t got back, the thong lift might be for you.
How does the thong lift work?
The thong lift boosts your booty’s volume using fat from your own body. The procedure is performed using a local anesthetic, and is often done in conjunction with liposuction. Fat is drawn from different parts of the patient’s body, and injected into the butt between layers of muscle with a large needle.
The name ‘thong lift’ comes from the fact that any scars from the procedure are hidden in the crack – where the thong covers you up.
Is the thong lift right for you?
Since a noticeable increase in your butt’s rotundity requires sufficient fat from elsewhere in your body, the butt lift is often ideal for women who may be slightly overweight in other areas.
Women who are smaller may not have adequate body fat to supply the hefty volume increase to their buttocks. The thong lift doesn’t mess around with size – you’ve got to be willing to go big or go home. Women who wear sizes four or under may not be properly equipped to handle the kind of junk Mendieta could put in their trunk, so little ladies, you might need to find a fairer derriere elsewhere. Or perhaps gain some weight.
Is there a downside for your backside?
Since the thong lift usually involves such a large scale fat transfer, there are associated risks and drawbacks. Fat transfer is risky, especially in bigger quantities. The fat needs to be able to develop its own blood supply to prevent reabsorption into the body.
If the fat is reabsorbed, the results can be a lumpy, uneven mess. Sitting down could become a real pain the butt. And nobody wants an asymmetrical booty.
Other side effects include bruising and swelling at the injection site.
