  • In recent years, celebrities such as Heidi Klum have driven many once obese patients to their local plastic surgeon’s office for body tuck procedures. Although many of these patients are in need of surgery due to excess skin left over from extreme weight loss, plastic surgeons are now seeing a growing fresh trend of healthy, in-shape mothers demanding a similar body tuck procedure. With plastic surgery being affordable to all, moms everywhere are treating themselves back to their before baby bodies.

“Celebrity mothers have the added benefit of daily personal trainers and chefs to help them get back to their pre-pregnancy body,” explained plastic surgeon Brent Moelleken, M.D.  “Normal, every day mothers don’t have these special perks, so their bodies tend to not bounce back the way Hollywood mothers’ do. Yet, they desire the same firm, refined celebrity body look. This is where the Mommy Makeover comes into the picture.”

According to Dr. Moelleken, his “Mommy Makeover” surgery usually includes a tummy tuck to help restore a post pregnancy belly to a firmer, flatter stomach, as well as a breast lift and/or augmentation that gives the mommy the full, perky breasts they lost due to breast feeding.

The Mommy Makeover takes anywhere from 2-5 hours to perform and is done in Dr. Moelleken’s Beverly Hills surgery center under general anesthesia. Time off work is typically one week. Patients are usually able to walk five miles on a flat surface by two weeks after surgery. Dr. Moelleken notes that doctor-supervised exercise and good eating habits–limiting that pregnancy weight gain– can be difficult, but will pay off: mothers who watch their weight and exercise need relatively minor make-overs. Dr. Moelleken also notes that because scarring becomes a fear for most mommies, he always hides incisions in the most inconspicuous places on the body.

“In the past, when plastic surgery was only for the rich and famous, there was no surgical option for the every day mommy who still yearned to perfect and refine what they once had.” Adds Dr. Moelleken, “Now, with the Mommy Makeover, these patients can improve their shape and contour the same way Hollywood mothers do!”

Dr. Moelleken was previously featured in a one-one-oine interview with Make Me Heal (read the Make Me Heal Plastic Surgery News Story).
