  • Becky Tummy Tuck Before/AfterBecky Moreau (member name: travelbuf72) is a 34 years old travel agent who had a breathtaking journey. Becky turned to tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) and breast augmentation after gaining a lot of weight from her 2 pregnancies. Various diets did not help her to lose this extra weight and she finally decided to have a gastric bypass surgery in July 2005. The results were amazing with over 150 lbs lost but left her with sagging skin, a cup AA breast size and no buttocks. Two weeks ago, Becky took the last decisive step of her journey and had a torsoplasty (circumfrial tummy tuck) with fat transfer to the buttocks and a breast augmentation. She is now a size 4 with two new DD buddies and no more sagging skin. “I feel more confident in my marriage and in social life now that I don’t have all that saggy skin attached to me. I’m looking forward to summer and to see what the future holds for me and my new body!!” Becky says. As the following interview reveals, intensive research, realistic expectations and the help of plastic surgery message boards were key reasons for Becky’s happy story. Becky used Dr. Michael Fasching in Plymouth, MN.

Make Me Heal: When did you first have the idea to have your procedure(s)?

Becky: After my second son I couldn’t lose the weight any traditional way so I looked into gastric bypass, after losing 152 lbs I had a lot of excess skin and no breast tissue left so I decided it was time for cosmetic surgery.

Make Me Heal: What were your motivations (physical, emotional, social, etc.) behind your decision to have the procedure(s)?

Becky: I had a hard time looking at myself in a mirror, again after working so hard to lose the excess weight I still was in discust every time I looked at myself.

Make Me Heal: How long did it take you to make a decision and was it an easy or difficult one to make? Please explain why it was easy or difficult.

Becky: I had been researching the gastric bypass for over a year before I decided to go thru with that. Going into the gb surgery I already knew I’d probably need some type of plastic surgery to obtain the body I had in my mind. It was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever made. It’s a life changing experience and also has many risks.

Make Me Heal: Did your family, friends, and any other people in your close circle give you support, opposition, or did you make this decision without considering them?

Becky: My family and friends were all behind me 100%.

Make Me Heal: How did you research the procedure(s) and come to decide on this particular procedure(s)?

Becky: I knew a few people who had had gastric bypass surgery and talked with them. One woman I talked with had life threating complications a few days out of surgery and I asked her if she would do it again and she said “YES!” I thought, wow, if she thinks that this surgery really must be something! I did a lot of research on obesityhelp.com before, during and after my gastric bypass and also on makemeheal.com for my plastics.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss if you used any of Make Me Heal’s resources such as the message boards, pictures library, doctor directory and doctor reviews, and any recovery and preparation products that you used.

Becky: I looked at just about every pic in the make me heal library, I asked a lot of questions on the message board and I used the pre and post op plastic surgery kit from makemeheal.com

Make Me Heal: How did you come to choose your doctor? Please mention how many consultations you had with different doctors before making your decision.

Becky: At the time I was looking into ps, back in Aug of 2006 Dr. Fasching was one of the only Dr.s that was approved in the study to put in silicone implants. I liked him from the start and even in Nov. when they approved the silicone for any ps I still went with Dr. Fasching who is 3 hours from my home because I trusted him and he also deals with a lot of gastric bypass patients.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss if you have any role in deciding the type of technique used for your surgery by the doctor, incision placements, implant brand, anesthesia type, etc.

Becky: I pretty much asked the Dr. what he felt was best for me and took his advise and let him decide. He gave me a choice of Mentor or Silimed implants and the Mentor have a better gauratee and also you do not have to be involved in the study w/the Mentors.

Make Me Heal: How did you prepare for the surgery?

Becky: I took the pre-op and post-op ps kit from makemeheal.com also added an extra protein shake to my diet and vitamin C. I took 2 weeks off from work and had a realitive stay with my kids for the 2 days I was gone having surgery.

Make Me Heal: How were you feeling the night before the surgery and on the moments before the surgery itself? Please discuss thoughts, fears, emotions, and prayers.

Becky: The night before surgery we went out to dinner then went to our room. I had a hard time sleeping, I was excited, scared, nervous all at the same time.

Make Me Heal: How was the recovery process? Please discuss what side effects you experienced? What were the worse parts of the recovery? Did anyone help you during the recovery?

Becky: The first 2 days were HELL! It was hard to get up due to the muscle tighenting of the abs. My husband was my ROCK during the first few days, he’d help me to the bathroom, dump my drains and keep track of what I was draining, he’d make sure I was getting all my meds when I needed them. He was a big help to me those first few days. I didn’t have any side effects from the ps. The worst part was trying to find a comfortable postion. I couldn’t lay on my back due to my butt, not on my stomach because of my breasts and it also hurt to lay on my sides because he did a tiny bit of lipo to take off a little “bump” I had on my outer thighs and also the drains would get in the way and they hurt. Sneezing was also BAD! It really hurt to sneeze in those first few days. It still hurts a bit at 2 weeks post op!

Make Me Heal: Please discuss the pain or discomfort you experienced during the recovery?

Becky: The first couple of days I was on my percocet every 3 hrs due to pain. I was off all pain meds by the 4th day. I was uncomfortable but not in pain.

Make Me Heal: How well prepared were you for the recovery from physical, emotional, and mental respects? Did you do any research (i.e. online, books, message boards, etc.) to make your recovery smoother?

Becky: I think I knew what to expect due to all the research that I did online. I haven’t gone thru any depression stage yet as I’ve read about and hope that I do not have to. I’m pretty thrilled at this time with my results.

Make Me Heal: What are your top recovery tips to other patients?

Becky: Take you pain meds when needed, rest, walk, take the makemeheal pre and post op vits, I really think they helped when it came to swelling and brusing, if you look at my pics I have hardly any bruising or swelling. I’m fitting into my pre-op pants at 2 weeks out.

Make Me Heal: How long did you take off from work? What did you tell your co-workers about taking this time off? Did anyone notice your cosmetic procedures at work and what did you tell them if they asked about it?

Becky: I took 2 weeks off from work. I work with only 2 other gals and they both knew what I was doing and were supportive of my decision.

Make Me Heal: How happy are you with the results?

    Becky: TRILLED!

Make Me Heal: How has your makeover impacted your life from personal, social, career, and other respects?

Becky: I haven’t been out to much since I am just 2 weeks post op so from a social stand point I cannot say. I haven’t been back to work either but I cannot imagine that it would change anything at work.

Make Me Heal: Would you have done anything differently if you had the chance?

    Becky: I don’t think I would.

Make Me Heal: What is your final word of advice to other people considering the procedure(s) you had?

Becky: Research, research and research, make sure you know what you are getting into and understand everything!

Make Me Heal: Was Make Me Heal beneficial to you along your journey?

    Becky: Absolutely!
