    michelle-before-after-liposuction

Michelle Goldstein (member name: chelle229) is a young and active person who exercises regularly. Michelle turned to liposuction after seeing that her lower abdomen and her flanks (love handles) did not respond to regular exercise. Michelle did not want to lose her perfect hips and breasts by endlessly dieting and choose the plastic surgery alternative. As she wanted quick results with small downtime, she elected to have Vaser liposuction for the larger areas of fat and SmartLipo for the other body parts. Michelle got exactly the contour expected and can finally show off the curves she has always desired. As the following interview reveals, intensive research, realistic expectations and the help of other fellow patients on plastic surgery message boards were key reasons for Michelle’s happy story. With about 900 cc’s removed and amazing results that have raised her self-esteem, Michelle’s best advice is: “I hope that people will hear my experience and just go for it! For we only live once!!”.

    Dr. Lomboy in Tampa, FL.

Make Me Heal: When did you first have the idea to have your procedure(s)?

Michelle: I saw an article in People magazine over Thanksgiving break about the FDA approval of SmartLipo. This procedure intrigued me because it promised barely visible incisions with no stitches, little to no downtime on recovery, local anesthesia and less weeks in a garment.

Make Me Heal: What were your motivations (physical, emotional, social, etc.) behind your decision to have the procedure(s)? Being a petite woman, there are only so many places to hold my weight.

Michelle: My sides and lower abs would not respond as well to a healthy diet or exercise. No matter how much weight I would lose, I would still keep pockets of fat in those areas.

Make Me Heal: How long did it take you to make a decision and was it an easy or difficult one to make? Please explain why it was easy or difficult.

Michelle: As soon as I found out Tampa had these newer procedures, I did more research and realized this would be something I wanted to do. I knew it was a safe procedure that had a very low complication rate, therefore it was an easy decision.

Make Me Heal: Did your family, friends, and any other people in your close circle give you support, opposition, or did you make this decision without considering them?

Michelle: I discussed with a select few on my decision and did get their support knowing that this was a very safe procedure that would make me more confident.

Make Me Heal: How did you research the procedure(s) and come to decide on this particular procedure(s). Please discuss your research process and all research sources you used (online, books, recommendations, word of mouth).

Michelle: I conducted tons of research on the internet, including reading multiple posts on MMH and reading about people’s real life experiences. I also talked extensively with the Patient Care Coordinator of my doctor. She has been through the Vaser & SmartLipo procedure before and it was great to hear tips from someone who has been through that.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss if you used any of Make Me Heal’s resources such as the message boards, pictures library, doctor directory and doctor reviews, and any recovery and preparation products that you used.

Michelle: The boards have been a lifesaver. Not only have I learned tons of information, I have made friends on MMH that have given me great support. It’s an amazing group of women! I bought a few things off of MMH boards that include: Vitamedica Arnica and Bromelain kit, Rainey Stage I and Stage II garments.

Make Me Heal: How did you come to choose your doctor? Please mention how many consultations you had with different doctors before making your decision.

Michelle: I found out that Dr. Caroline Lomboy of Isis Cosmetic had these newer procedures off of a news segment on them. The very next day I called the office for a consulation. I spoke with their Patient Care Coordinator who briefed me on the Vaser and SmartLipo procedure and answered any initial questions that I had. When I arrived for my consulation, I was greeted by the PCC and spoke with him more about the procedure in depth. Then, I met with the doctor and felt extremely comfortable. I also felt that their pricing was very fair.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss if you have any role in deciding the type of technique used for your surgery by the doctor, incision placements, implant brand, anesthesia type, etc.

Michelle: The doctor showed me where the incisions were going to be placed and she put them in places that would be less visible, which was perfect.

Make Me Heal: How did you prepare for the surgery? You can discuss everything from products you purchased, home preparations, and preparations involving your family and work. If you purchased any products featured on the Makemeheal.com site, please specify them.

Michelle: As stated above, I bought a few items off of MMH and they had great customer service and fast shipping. I started to really up my protein and eat pinepple, which is a pure form of Bromelain a couple of weeks before my surgery. A week before I was taking 2000 mg of Vitamin C to build up my immune system. I stayed away from any foods that contained Vitamin E and cut out alcohol, since both thin the blood. I started Bromelain and Arnica as directed on the Vitamedica package. I also bought a topical arnica gel which was a lifesaver for the bruising. At home I had precooked meat, cut up veggies and fruit before I went in for surgery. I also pumped up my airmattress in my living room, to be completely comfortable. I took off a Friday of work to get my procedure and was told I would be fine to return to work on Monday, which I was!

Make Me Heal: How were you feeling the night before the surgery and on the moments before the surgery itself? Please discuss thoughts, fears, emotions, and prayers.

Michelle: I have to admit that was the worst part, even compared to the recovery! I was really scared, knowing that my mother lives in another state did not help either. But I did get a good sleep and once I was brought to the doctor’s office I was reassured that everything would be ok.

Make Me Heal: How was the recovery process? Please discuss what side effects you experienced? What were the worse parts of the recovery? Did anyone help you during the recovery?

Michelle: My recovery was pretty easy! I had no nausea or severe pain. I only felt pressure in my abs, like I really had a hard workout. I was told that was also a factor of swelling, which as you can see in my pictures.. I really did not swell! I am now two months post-op and am really getting feeling back in these areas. My friend helped me out right after surgery, but I was totally fine except for being a little loopy from the pain meds.

Make Me Heal: Please discuss the pain or discomfort you experienced during the recovery?

Michelle: I wouldn’t say I ever felt pain, more of just a numbness feeling. The garment was definitely something that I got used to right away and felt that I really needed right after surgery. It made me feel intact.

Make Me Heal: How well prepared were you for the recovery from physical, emotional, and mental respects? Did you do any research (i.e. online, books, message boards, etc.) to make your recovery smoother?

Michelle: I recovered so well emotionally, knowing that I already saw results right away and that I didn’t do anything to ruin my body. I couldn’t believe how quick results appeared and how much a slight tweak to my body really did change me. Any questions or concerns I had were shared with the women on MMH who came back with advice since they had the same experiences.

Make Me Heal: What are your top recovery tips to other patients?

Michelle: First, please be patient. Lipo is a procedure that can take time for results, but all of a sudden they are visible. Make sure to take your meds as directed, eat healthy and take it easy.

Make Me Heal: How long did you take off from work? What did you tell your co-workers about taking this time off? Did anyone notice your cosmetic procedures at work and what did you tell them if they asked about it?

Michelle: I had my surgery Friday at 1PM and was already back at work on Monday. None of my co-workers, except my boss knew about the procedure. It was very easy for me to keep that a secret, due to the quick recovery.

Make Me Heal: How happy are you with the results?

Michelle: I am thrilled with my results. I knew no matter how much exercise I did, I could not fix this on my own.

Make Me Heal: How has your makeover impacted your life from personal, social, career, and other respects?

Michelle: I have gained confidence about my physical looks. I now have been given the ability to share my experience with others that leads them to change their lives in a positive way too, which is more than I could have asked for.

Make Me Heal: Would you have done anything differently if you had the chance?

Michelle: Not at all. I am so happy with every aspect of this experience.

Make Me Heal: What is your final word of advice to other people considering the procedure(s) you had?

Michelle: Make sure to take tons of before and have a picture trail throughout the whole process. You’ll be amazed how much you really change.

Make Me Heal: Was Make Me Heal beneficial to you along your journey?

Michelle: Absolutely, not only are the message boards organized, there is a great group of women that have been longtime members that support each other.
