After her twin boys and a c-section that left her with a roll of fat hanging over a long scar and major stretch marks, Kris tried endless new diets and exercises to lose the excess fat. But none of it worked and she got so discouraged that she stopped all her efforts and gained…some more weight.
Last summer, Kris’s life changed when she stumbled on the Make Me Heal website and saw some of the plastic surgery pictures and stories on the Make Me Heal Message Boards that seemed almost like miracles. Soon after, she made a consultation with Dr. Aldea and decided to go under the knife for a full tummy tuck and some muscle repair.
This surgery has had a great impact not only on her overall appearance (she dropped from a 10-12 dress size to a 8 dress size) but also on her health. Her plastic surgery motivated Kris to eat healthier and work out more. Not only she lost weight and reduced her cholesterol, but she is now active and feels much better in her everyday life. Kris’s results are so stunning that two other colleagues of hers who were inspired by her example are now scheduled for a tummy tuck this summer.
Kris’ best advice for anyone who is considering surgery is to remember that “it will make you LOOK better, but you will still have flaws. You cannot have a perfect body, no one does. Not even models. So you should have the surgery to make you feel better. If you have realistic expectations and a good doctor, this surgery can be the best thing you ever did for yourself!”
Dr. Aldea from
Make Me Heal: When did you first have the idea to have your procedure?
Kris: I had been seriously considering this procedure for about a year. I had been basically obsessed with my fat tummy for about 15 years. I was a very small person before I had twins 19 years ago. My twin boys weighed almost 7 lbs each. That is 13 lbs of baby! And I had a c-section so I was left with a roll of fat hanging over my scar and major stretch marks. It was pretty disgusting.
Make Me Heal: What were your motivations behind your decision to have the procedure?
Kris: At first I felt that the issue was weight, so I spent 15 years trying everything to lose the same 20 lbs over and over. I would diet and exercise and lose weight but I never looked any better so I would get discouraged and gain weight again. I tried everything that came along from fen-fen to ear stapling! The result was that I felt terrible about myself. Every single day for 15 years I thought about my ‘weight’ constantly.
Make Me Heal: How long did it take you to make a decision and was it an easy or difficult one to make?
Kris: About a year ago i decided that I needed help if I was ever going to get my self esteem back. That’s when I began to think about plastic surgery of some kind. I started doing research on the internet thinking that I would just need maybe lipo.
Make Me Heal: How did you come to choose your doctor?
Kris: I was lucky enough to find my doctor on the first consult. As soon as Dr. Aldea showed me the vision he had for me and explained that I needed muscle repair, I knew it made sense. The problem wasn’t my weight, i was close to my ideal weight but my tummy looked terrible. I still wanted to do more research though. However, I was scared to set my expectations too high. I couldn’t really believe that I could actually get results like that. I figured I would only see a small improvement if any, but I decided to go for it.
Make Me Heal: Did your family, friends, and any other people in your close circle give you support, opposition, or did you make this decision without considering them?
Kris: My husband was with me all the way and has really supported my decision to have this surgery. When I did finally tell my sons and my mom they too were supportive and stood by me, I couldn’t have made it without them. After I made the decision and set my surgery date, the months leading up to it were nerve racking. I almost picked up the phone and cancelled so many times. There was the guilt about the money, the worry about who would take care of my house and family while I recovered, but mostly the fear that it would all be a waste. I was so afraid that I would spend all that money and go through the whole thing and I would look the same or maybe just a little better. But my family kept saying, everything will work out, it is worth a try.
Make Me Heal: How did you research the procedure and come to decide on this particular procedure?
Kris: I stumbled on the Make Me Heal last summer and some of the pictures and stories I saw there seemed almost like miracles. I would go online and look at all the pics at MMH and other places and I would just try to hold on and hope for the best.
Make Me Heal: How was the recovery process?
Kris: The morning of my surgery, I was really calm and just wanted to get it over with. I just thought-whatever happens…happens. I never believed I would wake up with a flat tummy! The first time I got a look at my flat tummy with no stretch marks my mouth dropped. I NEVER allowed myself to expect anything like that. I honestly couldn’t believe it!
Make Me Heal: How was the recovery process?
Kris: My recovery went very smooth. My doctor told me to get up and move around as much as possible and I think this is what helped me have an easy recovery.
Make Me Heal: Please discuss the pain or discomfort you experienced during the recovery?
Kris: By day 3, I was getting up and walking slowly around in my house for 10 or so minutes several times a day. I would only sit for an hour or so, then I would make sure I got up. Sometime I would even get up during the night at least once and walk around for a few minutes. I know everyone heals differently, but I believe that moving around really helped me heal faster. I would advise anyone having this surgery to not lay around or sit too much, it will only make you stiff and sore. Get up as much as you can and move around slowly. The only pain I really had was from the muscle repair. It felt like I had done about a million situps! But every time I looked in the mirror I couldn’t believe the results I saw and it was so worth it.
Make Me Heal: How long did you take off from work?
Kris: I took two weeks off work. Before my surgery I didn’t tell anyone at work about it, mostly because I really didn’t believe the surgery was going to ‘work’ and I would be embarrassed because I was still fat. But when I went back I told everyone who asked (and some who didn’t) because I was so excited about my results I wanted to share! Everyone had almost the same reaction—they want a TT too! Two close friends are actually getting a TT this summer.
Make Me Heal: How has your makeover impacted your life?
Kris: I think the biggest impact of my surgery has been on my health. I have really been motivated to make some better lifestyle choices since my surgery. I have been eating healthier and working out. My weight is down, my stress is down…even my cholesterol is down! It’s almost like I feel that it is worth the effort to eat right and exercise now–I look better so I want to feel better too. I guess my only regret is that I waited so long, I should have had this done long ago. I spent years being unhappy with myself, what a waste of time!
Make Me Heal: Was Make Me Heal beneficial to you along your journey?
Kris: I would like to thank everyone at MMH, the pictures and stories there really helped me and made me feel that I could do this. I spent a lot of time reading the message boards and looking at pictures and all the information I got there was accurate and helpful. And to everyone who posted their pictures and told their story: you are helping people all the time!! Also, thanks to Dr. Aldea. My husband jokes that I am the girl who really got cut in half by the magician. I agree!
Make Me Heal: What is your final word of advice to other people considering the procedure you had?
Kris: Anyone who is considering this surgery, my best advice is to do it for the right reasons. You can have this surgery to make you LOOK better, but you will still have flaws. You cannot have a perfect body, no one does. Not even models. So you should have the surgery to make you feel better. If you have realistic expectations and a good doctor, this surgery can be the best thing you ever did for yourself!
I hope that my experience helps someone else, thanks for reading my story.
