For those of us who are struggling with weight loss, Melissa House (member name: angeliquestarsmommy) is an inspiring example of a wonderful plastic surgery makeover that saw her through a drop from a 32 dresss size to a size 14 and a similar change in her life and personal relationships.

Melissa is a 32 year old single mother from Clayton, North Carolina. After spending years being unhappy with her body and being picked on constantly by people, she finally decided to go under the knife. She first underwent a gastric bypass with Dr. Aurora Pryor in Durham that helped her slim down her dress size. After her weight loss, she felt better with the way people looked at her and noticed a real change in her relationships with men and the attention she was able to get. But she was not yet thrilled because of the excessive sagging skin left from her surgery. On January 23, 2006, Melissa had a full tummy tuck with muscle repair, the result of which helped her drop to a size 14. Melissa has impressed doctors and patients with her fast healing due certainly to her positive energy. Melissa also found support from women and men on the Make Me Heal Message Boards. Melissa’s experience can teach all of us a lesson of happiness: “I look at myself and for a change I am actually happy with myself and my body. For all my life I have been heavy, fat, large, picked on for everything. I weigh less now and look better now than I did in JR high school. People LOOK at me SO different now and they DO treat you different. I am not embarrassed to go anywhere now. GOD IS GOOD and has blessed me.”

Make Me Heal: When did you first have the idea to have your procedure(s)?

Melissa: 1 year after I had gastric bypass (Jan 23 2006)

Make Me Heal: What were your motivations behind your decision to have the procedure(s)?

Melissa: Well, I had SO much hanging skin and I kept getting a rash on my belly button. Not so much emotionally, I felt very self conscience about it because I had a HUGE hanging belly. I did not feel good about myself as much.

Make Me Heal: How long did it take you to make a decision and was it an easy or difficult one to make?

Melissa: Well it really was based on if insurance would cover it or not. I don’t have $$$ laying around my house. I am a single mother of a 2 yr old little girl. I don’t have all that type of money. If insurance did not cover it, I was not going get it. I mean I would not feel like it was the end of the world, of course disappointed. Like now, I WOULD love to get my thighs done to match my flat tummy, but I don’t have the money for that. They look HORRIBLE compared to my flat tummy.

Make Me Heal: Did your family, friends, and any other people in your close circle give you support, opposition, or did you make this decision without considering them?

Melissa: Everyone in my family and my co-workers were VERY supportive. I was amazed by their support, love and understanding.

Make Me Heal: How did you research the procedure(s) and come to decide on this particular procedure(s)?

Melissa: Well someone referred me to this website and I looked at the forums and asked questions, did research on other sites for tummy tucks, to see how other drs do and how the other patients did.

Melissa: Final word, GOD IS GOOD and he has blessed me. This procedure is not for everyone of course. Everyone handles each differently.
