Tameka “Tiny” Harris is once again making the rounds to promote her new VH1 reality show and fans noticed that her eyes look a lot different. Apparently Tiny isn’t just wearing colored contacts, she had her eye color permanently changed with surgery. And although Tiny has played coy about plastic surgery in the past, only recently admitting to going under the knife, this time she opened up about the procedure on social media.
In an accompanying caption with a selfie of her new eye color, Tameka “Tiny” Harris explained that her new look isn’t the result of temporary contacts, but permanent surgery.
“I permanently changed my eye color with Brightocular and loving it! Thank you Dr. Montasser Menif for the amazing experience and for making my dream come true. I hated wearing contacts just for the color and it made my vision blurry. Blessed to say my vision is perfect after my ice-gray implants.”
“Special thanks to #Spencer Vessa for all that you’ve done to make the process happen. You’re amazing and thank you #faiza for your exceptional customer service.”
When asked in an interview about his wife’s new look, rapper T.I. played dumb, responding, “I don’t know. I don’t know. If she’s coming up here for something maybe you can ask her but I don’t know.”
Tiny further expanded on the procedure in another post, promoting the Brightocular website. However, while Tiny is enthralled with the procedure, which reportedly uses iris implants to change the color of the eye, the procedure is not FDA approved.
Dr. James Tsai, a glaucoma specialist at Yale University, tells The Grio that eye color change procedures have major risks involved including scarring of the cornea, glaucoma, cataracts and blindness. He also relates that when one patient attempted to have the implants removed, her iris ripped, damaging her vision.
Tiny has since taken down her social media announcement, but has since continued to discuss her new look in her promotional appearances.
The 39-year old reality star tells ABC News’ Deborah Roberts, that she traveled to Africa to change her eye color from brown to gray.
“They are ice gray. That’s the color I purchased.”
“They go into the eye and they make a little slit,” Harris explained of the procedure that uses a medical-grade silicone. “They take an implant and it’s folded up. They open it [and] spread it over your eye.
“They told me that the procedure was going to be quick, five to 10 minutes an eye,” she said. “They woke me up. It was very blurry, then it kind of fades in.”
Since her revelation, Tiny has gotten mixed comments about her results from fans on social media, with many criticizing her decision.
However, Tiny remains pleased with her results, defending her position.
“I just wanted to do something different,” she said. “And I have the right to do that. It’s my body.”
Tiny’s openness about the procedure is a drastic difference from other changes she has made to her body over the years, only recently admitting to getting breast implants placed some time ago.
